George Jones has been considered by many the greatest country singer of all time. He died several years ago after a lifelong battle with alcohol. I hate this video because reactors always read the bio and miss the song and I could see you doing the same thing! But, aha, you went back and listened a second time. BRILLIANT and thank you! You got it and I could easily see on your face when the lyric said "they carried him away", right then you got it! All country songs tell good stories and the lyrics are as important as the melody. This song brings to mind a person walking through life, and you see them there, they talk with you, but, they are really some other place or some other time. Their memories keep them in the present and give them hope. But, the the glimmer of hope you might see in their eyes and the smile on their face, is only there because they remember the past and how much they want their present to be like that! So, so, sad!

Not sure if he was violent then, but maybe why she left him over and over. I do believe they were each other's true, big love. Working it out is not easy for anyone, but what a couple!
