Just to add my vote for "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive". Patty is a coal miner's daughter, just like her cousin Loretta Lynn. She lived through watching members of her family and loved ones falling to black lung. You will not regret hearing her story in this song.
@@michelleortega1514 No, the best one is where she sings it herself with appropriate accompaniment. Chris rockchurched it up, like he always does. It's fine, but I'd rather hear Patty sing it like she does.
There is a video on here of her doing You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive live for some sort of tv showcase. She spends a solid two or three minutes telling the audience why the song means so much to her and about her family history. Then she proceeds to give probably her best vocal performance ever. It is amazing to watch and actually really informative. The way she uses different mouth shapes or subtle changes in the tension of her jaw to raise and lower notes is crazy.
I'll jump on the "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive" bandwagon! The live version is fantastic where she gives her background. It's is almost like Darryl Scott wrote the song with her story in mind.
Definitely you'll never leave harlan alive. Patty is my all time favorite country female singer. She has that high lonesome sound that cuts like a knife like nobody else. She is royalty. BTW, she does this same song as a duet with Chris stapleton who does the man's perspective part. She came out of retirement to do that for a Kentucky benefit for those ravaged by natural disasters.
Add my vote for this song and "You'll never leave Harlan alive" with Chris Stapleton and the "Kentucky Rising" benefit in, I believe, 2022. Patty came out of retirement (since 2009) at Chris's request for this most soulful concert.
@@johnsonpaul1914 They also performed it at the CMA awards. It was a masterclass for this generation of top singers to hear Patty (the applause at the pauses in the singing was just great). IMHO, the best female country singer ever with that piercing high lonesome sound. In her 60s and retired, she still has got it. So best male singer on the planet (any genre) and best female singer...so amazing.
@@joelrubinson9973 I have watched that one also. I guess I like the rising concert because of Morgane's obvious adoration and respect for Patty. Morgane Stapelton is a severely under rated artist in her own right. Both performances are just some of the best music ever.
The steel guitar is producing the high pitched sounds you're hearing. In the hands of a skilled player, it is a wonderful instrument and it can really tug at your heart strings in a sad song. Patty mostly sings Bluegrass and Gospel now but she excels in any genre. A wonderful and sometimes forgotten talent.
My favourite song of hers is ( How can I help you say goodbye) . This song came out when my mom was diagnosed with Cancer. It was one of the things that helped me get through my mom's treatments and her death of Cancer.
"So blame it on your lying, cheating Cold, dead beatin, two timing, double dealing Mean, mistreatin, lovin' heart" This is the chorus to Blame It on Your Heart -- a great song to sing at the top if your lungs riding with friends in a convertible!

Some songs of her that are a must listen are You will never leave Harlan alive That ain’t the Grandpa that I know How can I help you say goodbye Nothin but the wheel. She has the best most pure voice in country music.
I grew up around Patty Loveless back in the day she was the lead singer for my dad's band she sung Rock back then she loved Linda Ronstadt the Eagles things like that my family is very musical so I would sing with her when my dad would be playing we would go to an old barn and just have so much fun because they were really loud so they found an old barn to play in my dad and my sister passed away two years ago on the same day 12 hours apart.. I'm the last of my family I miss him so much I really miss my dad playing his guitar he was so amazing Patty Loveless said in an interview once that her best guitarist was my dad his name was Randy Walker and by the way she is so incredibly nice love you Patty I always will.. Love Joy
When men don't know what they're sorry for, he's being really honest and doesn't understand. Men needs flash cards to communicate. Be kind ladies, it's frustrating for us.
No, he's saying sorry because he's so used to saying it to keep the peace, whether he was wrong or not he always was sorry. This is a song about 2 people growing apart, because neither appreciates the struggle of the others life. She only sees her struggle with keeping the home and not being appreciated for the effort, he only his struggle to leave each day, all day to come home to be under appreciated too. they are blinded to each others pain by their own.
Chris Stapleton asked her to sing that song with him in one of his shows. She had retired to take care of her ailing husband but said she couldn't say no to Chris. They did great together. Two amazing voices on a really great song.
I'll give a rousing thumbs up to those who've suggested Patty's version of You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive. Back in the days when folks wore socks, that song literally (or figuratively) knocked my socks off. And Britt, as much as you love the background story, you must do the live version where Patty tells exactly what the song means to her. It's heartbreakingly beautiful.
You really need to do the duet of this song with Chris stapleton. After she had retired from singing and performing for almost a decade. Chris personally called and asked her to come to his show in the town she lived in
Ohhh Blame It On Your ... Heart, (sassy!) Chains and If My Heart Had Windows, so beautiful... I love all of these from her. This one here is beautiful yet sad but true for lots of folks.
I absolutely LOVE that you have discovered Patty Loveless. I met her at a Nashville Fan Fair probably 35 years ago and she is my absolute favorite Country Music Singer. IMO she has more talent than just about anyone in the business, her vocals touch me deeply, quite a bit actually like Angelina Jordan’s vocals touch me.
You will need to do a reaction to her "You'll never leave Harlan alive" next. Such a talented lady that spent some of her career as a back up vocalist. But wow can she carry her own.
First time I heard this song, I listened to it three times straight. So refreshing to hear a lyric describing both people's perspectives, rather than "woman good - man bad" or the other way around.
Just a word of appreciation for your work and effort to produce such wonderful reactions. To provide a bit of feedback to you, you are providing much enjoyable entertainment to this 77 year old man.
If you want to truly hear her voice in an amazingly authentic light, listen to, "Sounds of Loneliness," on her Mountain Soul album. She wrote it as a teenager and delivers it with the high lonesome mountainous sound. It's sweet perfection!
My favorite female Country singer of all time!! What a strong beautiful voice. You need to hear Patty Loveless sing (YOU'LL NEVER LEAVE HARLEN ALIVE!)..
Just goes to show that there really are 2 sides to every story and we rarely get the whole perspective from just one of them. Great song, thanks for the reaction!
Other good songs by Patty are "When Fallen Angels Fly", "blame it on my heart" and "Lonely too long." Patty is such a great singer and so talented. She was born in Pikeville, KY and started singing and writing songs at age 11 with her brother. thanks for posting.
