Lyrics:
I try to discover
A little something to make me sweeter
Oh baby refrain from breaking my heart
I'm so in love with you
I'll be forever blue
That you give me no reason
Why you're making me work so hard
That you give me no
That you give me no
That you give me no
That you give me no
Soul, I hear you calling
Oh baby please give a little respect to me
And if I should falter
Would you open your arms out to me?
We can make love not war
And live at peace with our hearts
I'm so in love with you
I'll be forever blue
What religion or reason
Could drive a man to forsake his lover?
Don't you tell me no
Don't you tell me no
Don't you tell me no
Don't you tell me no
Soul, I hear you calling
Oh baby please give a little respect to me
I'm so in love with you
I'll be forever blue
That you give me no reason
You know you make me work so hard
That you give me no
That you give me no
That you give me no
That you give me no
Soul, I hear you calling
Oh baby please give a little respect to me
Soul, I hear you calling
Oh baby please give a little respect to me

Oh my God. How awful. You just made me tear up now, I can’t imagine what that funeral was like.

I sorry.....
This song and Erasure as a band always reminds me of my school time friend, Scott Wilks.
He was in a wheelchair and we saw their concert in Milton Keynes and it allowed me to be closer than the performance than I should have been allowed to be. For this I will forever be thankful of my friend who I lost in 2016. Thinking of you Scott.
I've no idea if it was the same performance, but I saw Erasure at the Milton Keynes bowl in 1989 or 1990. I was only 17 years old or so, and went with my first girlfriend. The opener was Adamski singing Killer, and it was a hell of a concert. RIP to your friend, but you are still here to tell such tales and they will be alive as long as you remember them ;-)

Erasure needs more respect! They are just as important and influential as Depeche Mode, New Order, and Pet Shop Boys. Vince Clarke, especially, needs to be recognized with a special lifetime achievement award for all that he's done for synthpop music and being the founder of Depeche Mode, Yazoo, and Erasure.
Totally agree!!!!!!!
Too right mate!! Well spoken!!
Well actually Alison Moyet was looking for a band member. The duo formed in late 1981 after Clarke responded to an advertisement Moyet placed in a British music magazine, although the pair had known each other since their school days.

I never get tired of listening to this Anthem by Erasure, what a masterpiece! Andy Bell and Vince Clark, what a perfect combination: An incredible voice and a keyboard genius.
Thus entire album is great!

I'm neither a fan of Erasure nor this genre but this is legitimately one of the best pop songs ever written.

And one of the best videos. Taking the piss out of the lyrics, and how they may have been misheard, is brilliant.
Yep. Sometimes you just have to hold your hands up and say that is a top song regardless of the artist. This is one of them.
Plain and simple, this is one of the very best pop records of the 1980s, taken from one of the finest pop albums of that time.
Omg, i forgot all about this song, why doesn't this get any airplay. The memories it brings back are priceless, who else is listening and going down memory lane? Damn I miss those dsys!!

I remember the song quite well, but the version from wheatus. Nonetheless, I love the original, because it sounds so amazing. And it also reminds me on my teenage adventures ;)
They play it sometimes on the 80s channel on Sirius XM
Amo essa dupla
Andy Bell's voice is perfect to express the emotion in Vince Clarke's wonderful tunes.
That is true, but I suspect that Andy had some input on the songs other than singing them, Hideaway being a good example.
Thanks for telling me his name 😂 never knew it. He's great
Wow i thought it was jony Somerville
Erasure probably one of the most underrated groups of all time. Several people have covered this track but none of them were a patch on this. Erasure are still together and selling out concepts 34 years later! A great British group to be proud of. Andy Bell was probably one of the first popstars to be openly gay and comfortable and he led the way for many others to follow. Erasure thank you for the memories and you continue to make me happy. Love always.
Well said!!! Erasure criminally underrated in so many ways. The soundtrack to my life since wonderland ❤️
Not to take anything from Andy Bell, but Elton John and David Bowie were open about their sexuality since the '70s.

Their album 'The Innocents' sustained me through some of the darkest days of my early twenties. This song from that record is SUBLIME. What Vince Clarke doesn't know about synthesisers isn't worth knowing. Perfection.

Back then, the music industry cared more about record sales than concert promotion and image. This meant that music needed to be very rhythmically pleasing. Many artists in the 80s in particular used a winning formula.

Estas canciones jamás de los jamases pasarán de moda, me sirven tanto en estos días de cuarentena. ..
I tell all the young people I know how great the 80s were and what a shame it is they weren't there.
Absolutely! The best!
So true. Awesome music.
You will be pushing up daisies and the youth of today will be experiencing different times, where i come from the 80's was the worst time to be alive, music might have been good but the quality of life was dreadful, if your basing it on music then anybody can experience it anytime.
Especially, since the orange clown has turned this world and country into a shit show. Smh. Makes me forever blue.
