I'm going to the show in San Diego 18 March, so I started listening to Quadra Fucking Awesome recording...
This can rival with Choas Ad and Roots, and I bet it could be better

People honestly need to quit fuckin' even bringing Max or Igor up anymore. Yes, they founded the band with Paulo in the 80s. But Paulo, Andreas, and even Derrick have been in the band SO much longer than Max by now that it's actually hilarious. It's their band. It's Sepultura. Period.

I grew up listening to both and I like both,sucks slayer decided to call it quits on touring though,hopefully sepultura will hit some of danny wimmer festivals this summer,(louder than life ,for me). Definitivamente os caras lutaram contra tudo e contra todos, inclusive conterrâneos saudosistas chatos pra caralho presos ao passado(Me incluo nessa). Sou apaixonado pela fase antiga da banda, fato este que me rendeu uma tattoo na panturrilha mas não tenho como negar que esse disco "QUADRA" está absurdamente sensacional e mágico em todos os sentidos. A entrada do Eloy na minha opinião foi crucial para chegarem nessa linhagem de som progressiva e virtuosa inclusive. Parabéns ao SEPULTURA por reassumirem o posto de banda internacionalmente reconhecida e respeitada, de onde nunca deveriam ter saído. Hails \m/
Eloy fue una gran adquisición para la banda. Me gusta más ésta Sepultura que la de los hermanos Cavalera.
Os caras estão tocando muito, o Eloy é um animal na bateria. Pra mim são 2 bandas diferentes, a fase Max e a fase atual...Ambas são muito fodas. Eu me identifico mais com a fase do Max, porém o SEPULTURA com o lançamento do QUADRA entrou definitivamente para o "main stream" do metal. Uma verdadeira obra prima...parabéns a todos os envolvidos na produção dessa jóia.
Gosto também da fase antiga . Mas essa ta otimo sepultura quadra ta muito sepultura gostei o vocalista a batera todos maravilhoso .

When they changed lead singers, I gotta say this is an example of a change that works. He sounds great and the voice blends so well with the music, I love it.

Not afraid to say that 2017's Machine Messiah is my favourite Sepultura album. And yes, I've been a fan since the 90s era. No shame in liking what you like.
Now we have soulfly and the non Max Sepultura. Like, two times more killer bands than we could have had if Cavalera stayed
To be honest, Sepultura has had a longer string of good albums since the mid-2000's than they had in their original heyday. Again, speaking as someone who became a fan when "Beneath The Remains" was new.

This was unexpected. This is the first album I heard with Derrick vocals because I was tight only listen to Calavera's era. But this is SO GOOD!

Best sepultura album
In my opinion Sepultura is THE best heavy metal band in the world right now and Eloy Casagrande is THE #1 drummer. His playing is extremely technical, physical, powerful, explosive and dynamic. Andreas Kisser is an exceptional guitarist and his work on Quadra is probably his best work so far. Paulo Jr. is an old school bassist who just seem to get better and better. Derrick Green is in his top vocal form here and has proved persistence is key to success. The Brazilian band have made their name in creativity and Quadra is no exception, this time with symphonics, a better production and a bigger sound than ever. These four guys deserve all the respect for keeping and improving the Cavalera legacy. RESPECT!

Every post-Cabelera Sepultura album is distinctly different and innovative, always something new and cool to look forward to.
That's what makes it a bit of a hit-or-miss for me, but I'm okay with that; if I dig it, I dig it, if I don't, I'm sure someone else will like it. :)
'The Mediator Between The Head And Hands Must Be The Heart' as a whole is one of the best metal albums of the last decade. It starts out like a typical thrash album, but it goes in a lot of different directions after that. Individually the songs are great, but played in the arranged order they're better, Grief especially sounds heavier and more emotional between 2 faster songs. I was disappointed with Alex but I liked the concept of that album.
Agreed, "Mediator" was excellent, but then Machine Messiah didn't do much for me. Then, from what I heard of Quadra, it sounds fun so far.
Very innovative, Fear Factory was doing the same more than a decade ago.
So good to see them finally breaking free from the Roots era's chains. The only unfortunate thing is that it took 22 years for Andreas to finally figure out that what made Sepultura to be at it's best (87-93) was always his great melodic and brutal thrash guitar work, not the overly groovy and low guitar tone present on Roots and beyond.

I was referring more to records like Dante and A-lex, that could've been really great but were completly butchered by that horrid B Tuning reminiscent from Roots. I really enjoy all 3 of their Nuclear Blast albums, actually. However, i think that Mediator have some sporadic relapses into that poor riffage of their late 90's era and Messiah (which is astonishingly great) was more like a start on this big shift in their post-Max sound that we'll probaly see complete in Quadra. My favorite of them is Kairos, for being the first ditch to the unbearable Nu-Metal low tunings and for it's huge throwback to Chaos A.D., their true experimental masterpiece.
So, you didn't hear 'The Mediator Between The Head And Hands Must Be The Heart' I take it. That album was innovative from start to finish. They broke out of Roots a long time ago.
I haven't ever been a fan of Sepultura. However, what I can say (because I hear it) is that they are one of very few long-term metal bands that have stepped up their musicianship significantly over the years. Parabens. =) Have a blessed day.

A fan since Beneath the Remains ... a fan until death. Yes, it was sad to see the Cavalera bros leaving over time, but Derrick and Eloy took their recruitments as serious as hell. Most other bands would go through many more personnel line-up changes compared to Sepultura over almost 35 years. I also had to adapt to Max, followed by Igor, leaving, but I am very glad I did. Plus, now, we have besides Sepultura, Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy, Hubris, Nailbomb, ... Looking forward to seeing them in Houston, April 2020!!! Meet me in the moshpit!
Beneath the Remains will aways be the masterpiece of metal. But Quadra rocks for sure
I don't get all those comments that trashtalk Max with Soulfly....without Max there was no Sepultura in the first place. I don't get it that people can't understand that like in relationships you sometimes have to leave old settings in order to grow, stay happy and start new things (aka Soulfly). I love both Sepultura and Soulfly and there is no worse or better here....between the two bands since each has their own style. I would love to see Sepultura and Soulfly play together live once to be honest....if that will ever happen.

Who would have thought that Andreas Kisser can evolve like this over the years. This is beyond what Sepultura had started out, this is fucking great.

I'm 61 years old This year 2023 burial with court tour was in Santos Baixada Santista my city. My wife, knowing that I'm a big fan of SEPULTURA, took me to the show Ahhhh, on the day of the show, it was my birthday.
That growl he's got is powerful but clear, you can hear what he's saying, which is the kind of distortion I like on a voice. Rough, but not just sound... if that makes sense. Right on. :)

This record is a juggernaut and worth every penny. Please stop the comparisons to the other guys. They are two different bands with very different sounds, both deserving of respect. Eloy is in an elite class all by himself. It boggles the mind to hear and watch him. Buy this stuff, buy the Conspiracy stuff. It's all top shelf metal. Enjoy it all.

Claro que não dá para apagar o que foi feito no passado com o Max e o Igor, agora ficar chorando por uma reunião da banda esperando a volta dos irmãos cavalera, na boa prefiro a banda mil vezes com o Derrick e o Eloy, os caras são foda e tem muita vontade de fazer as coisas acontecerem na banda, o derrick canta com a mesma vontade hoje, como na época em que entrou na banda, além do carisma e simpatia com os fãs que ele tem. Simples assim em time que está ganhando não se mexe.
