    Reminder that Pokemon Legends is not consider a spinoff by TPC. While not a generational game, it is still viewed as a mainline game. As seeing in their trailers, the use of Pocket Monster Series (in Japan) or Pokemon Series is used exclusively for the mainline series. This applies to both Let's Go! and Legends titles.

    • @Merciless_Zero
      @Merciless_Zero 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Not a spin off but more of a sub series that branched off from your traditional mainline game and may or may not take place somewhere in the mainline Pokémon timeline. It’s bassically a new formula that sort of reinvents the wheel. I hope legends ZA allows Pokémon to follow us, has underwater exploration and has explorable dungeons or labyrinths, an underground sewer system like BW2, and there being more to do in the overworld and main city.

    • @ExzaktVid

      I think they’re more remakes than spinoffs.

    • @Merciless_Zero
      @Merciless_Zero 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@ExzaktVid they arn’t really remakes, hisui does not feel nor look like platinum (which I consider to be the canonical storyline for gen 4, I don’t consider DP’s story to be canonical. Platinum and DP had better exploration where there were more things to do in the smaller condensed overworld where as legends arceus was bassically just a empty open overworld with very little to do.

    • @wikiuser92
      @wikiuser92 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Legends: Arceus is canon with the rest of the core series games, and the Let's Go games are just somewhere else in the multiversal timeline.

    • @Merciless_Zero
      @Merciless_Zero 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@wikiuser92 let’s go is canon in the sense that it takes place in the mega evolution timeline. But I do not believe it’s canonical in the main timeline with no gimmicks, for example I think the original timeline The story of Gen 1 was accurately represented in the form of FRLG, everything that happens in generation two follows after the events of generation 1 and and is accurately portrayed for what is shown in HGSS(which in my opinion was an okay game due to the fact that inherited a lot of the same flaws of the original games while still being an extremely good remake and adding a ton of content and mechanics that we never knew we wanted until we got it, infact my favorite game in the entire series is HGSS, BW2 comes as close second of mine. But that’s besides the point. I think gen 3 main timeline follows around the events of emerald considering the fact that emerald is the definitive storyline for generation 3 meaning that gamefreak very clearly wanted emerald to be at the forefront of generation 3’s canonical storyline as it sort of fixed the lackluster ruby and sapphire storyline. I think gen 4’s canonical storyline follows the events of platinum not Diamond and Pearl and the events of legends arceus may or may not be a prequel to platinum or their may be some slight alterations to legends arceus story if it were to inevitably lead to the events we typically see in platinum. The events of generation 5 follows the events of black and white and then bw2 follows after Black and white.

    I do think Gen 10 will be a 2026 title.
    Game Freak titles take a very long time to release on new hardware. Let's Go and the original JP release of Ruby/Sapphire are the titles that released the earliest in thier systems lifetime, at 20 months. Systems like the 3DS took over 2.5 years to get a Pokémon game, same with the DS.
    There is zero chance of Pokémon gen 10 being on Switch 1. None.
    A holiday 2026 release of Pokémon Gen 10 to wrap up the 30th anniversary of the series and to be the marquee title for the Switch 2's second holiday just makes sense to me.

    • @Scarftail
      @Scarftail 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I wouldn't say zero chance. The main series has been completely annual since 2016, only bucking the trend this year by a few months, so as much as it would suck, I wouldn't put it past them to milk a third Switch generation in November 2025 (or try to rush it to be a Switch 2 game).

    • @pokechatter
      @pokechatter 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ScarftailI’d say Nintendo would be more likely to use their single largest franchise’s major milestone iteration to sell a new console rather than have such a major release at the end of a system’s life.
      Furthermore, I’d also argue that 2016, as a 20th anniversary release, is clear evidence that TPCi would stretch their entire planned release just for an anniversary release of such a new generation; this, plus Gamefreak’s unsuccessful experimentation in 2015 is part of why gen vi felt as thought it was left undercooked, and why gen vii’s 2017 “sequel” titles felt like just definitive editions of the 2016 games more so than in previous generations.

    There are a few other things to consider:
    -There’s a persistent rumor that Stern Pinball is working on a physical Pokémon pinball table. It would be a good opportunity to add one or both games to NSO, but given some of the cross-game tracking features of their tables that could be bigger than it might seem.
    -We have no idea what’s going on movie-wise (animated or live-action) in the franchise.
    -August is when the Pokémon World Championships are, hence the announcements around that time.

    I really really REALLY hope Gen 10 and Pokémon in general takes its time and doesn’t release until 2026, and lets Legends Z-A have its time in the spotlight.
    I hated how Scarlet and Violet completely overshadowed Legends Arceus just a month after release by revealing new games. And in general, the quality of the games have been… not the best for one reason or another. Sword and Shield functioned well, but were creatively drained. And Scarlet and Violet were a lot more creatively fulfilling, but were buggy as all get out. I just want a Pokémon game that is functional and interesting. Like, I enjoyed both games, but the series needs to slow down to develop games the size and scope they’re aiming for with Gen 9.
    Hopefully this year is just a break year and next year Legends takes the mantle of their mainline release, with Gen 10 being announced for 2026. And that in the meantime, we get something substantial not made by Game Freak. They need time to cook instead of releasing not fully baked products.

    One detail is Ilca’s work on BDSP was received so poorly that even some leaders at Game Freak acknowledged it. Considering it was the first time any mainline Pokemon title was outsourced, and fans and critics had so many complaints unique to being just generally a bad remake, I don’t see Ilca working more with any major Pokemon projects beyond continuing maintenance on Bank.

  • @yayorneigh

    I saw Z-A’s 2025 release as a retroactive positioning of Pokémon mainline games in response to not only the growing scope of their games, but their quality. Pokémon SV sold incredibly well, no doubt, but quality assurance was heavily scrutinized the moment people were invited to preview the game. Things got even worse post-launch. Between Nintendo issuing a public apology for it’s performance, the plentiful amount of refunds, and the silent patching of SV’s memory leak- It’s more likely Nintendo, and any higher-ups for Pokémon made a retroactive decision to loosen up for Z-A.
    Whether the decision was made to primarily draw more from the Switch’s successor or not, I hope this decision to course correct ends up paying dividends for the end product of Legends: Z-A. All things considered, I have high hopes and a bunch of optimism.

    This may befit a "Future of NSO" video or the like, but I've been thinking... how likely do you think the Game Boy Pokémon games releasing on NSO is? This would include Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, and LeafGreen.
    I don't necessarily think they're all going to be released this holiday (or even all at once), but Nintendo and the Pokémon Company (TPCi) releasing even Gen 1 and Gen 3 on NSO would be a pretty exciting holiday announcement (with Gen 2 and the Gen 1 remakes at a later date).
    Still, I do wonder how Nintendo and TPCi feel about this prospect. I imagine TPCi would want to sell the games individually, but given that Nintendo *do* partially own Pokémon, I feel like Nintendo would be a bit more pushy in getting them on NSO. Nintendo is likely very cordial and accommodating to partners usually, but I could see this being an area where they try to throw their weight around if need be. Past Pokémon games being on NSO would certainly drive up NSO retention, boost subscriptions, and add even more value and excitement around NSO.
    Clearly, TPCi and Nintendo worked out a deal before given that Gen 1 and Gen 2 were released on the 3DS, but I do wonder who has more of a sway. Kit & Krysta have alluded to TPCi having more power over Nintendo at times, and Nintendo being very flexible to TPCi, but still, I have to imagine both companies are very chummy and Nintendo wouldn't be too keen on TPCi selling them by themselves. What do you think, Nintendo Forecast? I'd be interested if you ever did a video on this topic!

      @@nintendoforecast I have long been an advocate that Pokemon Home, and the dlc of either gen 8 or gen 9, should be bundled in with the Expansion Pack. I think the two companies would gain more memberships in the increased value than the loss of the users who are willing to pay for both, which is likely a smaller fraction of the user base than those paying for home and base NSO who would upgrade for the price differential.

    I do think that Z-A was originally their holiday title, but got delayed with Switch 2. Gamefreak is traditionally never in a hurry to have a title out on a new system, but with the premise of Z-A likely being impossible for them to do on the OG Switch (like even technically apt developers might not be able to do it) they were probably forced to make it a next gen exclusive.
    Anyways lets hope they don't rush out the original 2025 title for 2024, you know the execs will do it if Nintendo doesn't keep a tight leash on them.

    Last year the presence of an August Pokémon Presents was “leaked”from the datamine of Pokemon Masters EX’s August update, this year datamine will come out on July 29th so we may get confirmation for a new Pokémon Presents in a couple of days.
    That being said, I don’t think we’ll see a new Pokémon Presents this August and I don’t think we’ll see a new Pokémon game this holiday that isn’t a spin-off or the TCG Pocket game.
    The reason why I don’t think we’ll see a new Presents, it’s the fact that TPC will attend Gamescom for the first time since 2016, so I think that whatever they’ll want to show, they’ll show it in the Gamescom stage.
    Regarding a potential new game release during the holiday season, I think they will just stick with the TCG Pocket for this year, and if anything else comes out, I think it would a spin-off like Mystery Dungeon or some other long forgotten spin-off series. Still, if there really is a new console game coming out this holiday season, I think they would have announced it back in February, and that’s why I’m also expecting them to focus their Gamescom presence on the TCG Pocket game and basically nothing else.
    I think that Legends ZA will be released at the end of 2025 as a cross gen title, and that we’ll only see footage of the game once the new console and its games are announced, which means that we may have the first look at the game in the first months of 2025 if Nintendo decides to separate the game showcases from the console reveal like they did for the Switch.

    I think you overlooked one crucial thing, and that's the possibility of Pokemon Conquest getting a followup or spiritual successor. I don't necessarily think it's a given that a future Pokemon strategy/tactical RPG would be another crossover with Nobunaga's Ambition, nor do I think they would necessarily revisit the idea of Pokemon x Fire Emblem that was passed on because Conquest existed in favor of what became Tokyo Mirage Sessions. But the genre has absolutely reached new heights lately, with Fire Emblem's success exploding after Conquest's release and Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle surpassing 10 million copies sold - I imagine this would put another Pokemon game in the genre on TPC's radar. It also feels like the most viable spinoff for a comeback, outside of possible remakes of Genius Sonority's GameCube games - there's no need for new takes on them or Stadium/Battle Revolution because they were always more so meant to be a way to see Pokemon battles on the big screen. Mainline games on console render them obsolete. Otherwise, most other options either don't really have a developer able to churn a spinoff out right now (I don't think Creatures can spare staff for PokePark or Rumble at this time) or relied too much on their console's hardware to seem especially feasible now (Ranger). And with the Trading Card Game not getting any console adaptations in years while remaining active elsewhere, Conquest or a new take on a Pokemon tactical RPG really does seem like the frontrunner to me.

    I think the Pokemon company is starting to realize what the pursuit of short term profits does to a brand. The Pokemon brand is weakening, and it’s now directly associated with the lowest quality games “Nintendo” has ever made. My point is, there is no gap. Games need longer to be developed, and so they don’t need to release a game in November. Producing repeated higher quality games would lead to long term better sales than if they continued their current strategy. What I think they’re going to use the November 21 gap for is the switch 2 reveal. I went through every day for the next 6 months, and the next window they would have is January 20. If we assume midori didn’t flat out lie for no reason, that’s just a 3 month at most hype cycle. A 3 month hype cycle is not enough and would lead to a poor launch. I cite midori because he couldn’t be wrong, he had access to actual leaked documents that we can verify. Unless he lied, or unless it’s delayed again, it will release in March. That means the November 21 slot needs to be used for the switch 2 reveal in optimal circumstances. Due to Nintendo’s partial ownership of the Pokemon company, they probably are the reason legends ZA is releasing next year. Nintendo doesn’t have much to gain from normal trying to delay Pokemon games for only the reason of higher quality, but this time they desperately need it.

    • @nintendoforecast

      I agree they should give games more time but I'm not sure they see it that way given how profitable their approach has been so far. (And yes, they could have got higher profits from better games but the flip side is that those games would release less often so it's not even clear that quality is a better business move if your only metric is money). I don't see 21 Nov as a Switch 2 reveal - if there's anything then, it'll be something for retail for Christmas. But I agree an Oct/Nov reveal for a Mar launch makes sense.

    I don't really see any reason why they _wouldn't_ wait to hold off Gen 10 until 2026 tbh.
    Not only is having a new Gen ready for the decade anniversaries something that's happened twice before, since it gives them a good marketing push, but TPC does genuinely seem to care about the dev cycle discourse, and having it release after 4 years instead of the usual 3 would let them temporarily avoid the woes of those concerns/potentially regain goodwill (though whether or not they pivot harder into giving the devs more time after this or they send them immediately back into the mines is still up in the air).
    And this is a bit more speculative, but I have a gut feeling that they're deliberately holding off "Let's Go" Johto (don't actually think it'll be Lets Go specifically due to some controversy regarding LGPE's forced motion tbh but it'd still be similar conceptually) to be first-year games for Switch 2, due to the suspiciously high amount of Johto content in the last presents that was likely finalized before the system's internal delay. Those are on top of Johto getting a fair number of subtler nods in S/V itself like one of Perrin's gifts being pointed out as from Johto, and the selfie songs being GSC remixes.
    Being the first Pokemon games on the new major system, I feel, is kind of the only way you can guarantee that style of game sells in-line with the others, and they're obviously not releasing both those and Gen 10 in the same year. And with ZA most likely being a Q1 2025 release for Switch 1, that fills the quota of new main game to push OG Switches this fiscal year.
    Though small anecdote about ZA: I noticed Pokemon Day 2025 falls on a Thursday, so I feel like they might do a Special Launch for that game on that date.

    I feel like they are gonna release a port or remake of a side game to promote legends ZA like they did with bdsp and arceus. Bdsp and arceus released with a little bit of time between each other but they have enough in common where they are clearly meant to be paired together.

    I would be not surprised, if they announced a new virtual Trading Card Game.
    Something differently: I want to point out a error we got now in multiple videos. Team Ninja did NOT developed the Warriors games, instead it's Omega Force. Team Ninja did co-developed some titles, but the main Warriors developer are Omega Force.
    Shout out to Capcom and Marvelous for there Musou series Sengoku Basara and Fate/Extella. To just remind everyone that the Warriors games are not the only Musou games out there. 🙂

    While I agree with a Pokémon Presents in August (more specifically, from past experience, 1-2 weeks prior to Pokémon World Championships), I'm more lukewarm on a game for November 21st (or the Thursday prior Thanksgiving). TPC does usually announce their new games on Pokémon Day, as those are a prime time to celebrate the series, but the only Switch game announced then - ZA - was barely shown with gameplay or gameplay-representative CG. They might show some more of that game, but is unlikely that the game will be out by November. And if they had any idea for November, they would've said it last Presents.
    This year it's likely that they'll just show stuff for their mobile endeavours and an update on ZA, but no actual game for the year.

    • @cyberrb25
      @cyberrb25 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Another note: While ILCA was the main developer of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, they've been involved in Scarlet and Violet as well (can't say for sure they weren't also involved in Legends Arceus).

    • @cyberrb25
      @cyberrb25 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yet another note: Were I in charge of marketing for TPC, and provided I have the necessary materials to do it, I'd push the next trailer for Pokémon Legends sooner rather than later. Using the Paris Olympics as a springboard for my game located on a fictional version of Paris is quite a synergistic play.

    I really hope people start seeing in this generation that
    Pokémon DOES = Nintendo consoles
    BUT!
    Pokémon DOES NOT = Nintendo Company
    Pokémon Company is the closest idea of a "2nd party, but mostly 3rd party" company out there. Because unlike the other companies under the umbrella of Nintendo, The Pokémon Company is successful enough to stand on its own...
    Which makes them not only prone to making obviously poor decisions (rushing Scarlet/Violet for profit), but also makes them capable of making/breaking Nintendo consoles (no mainline on the Wii U - would have literally saved that console). Pokémon releases are NOT decided by Nintendo, but by the Pokémon Company - so people blaming Nintendo for their poor decisions is senseless.

    i hope after the switch pokemon takes a break, they need to seriously reconsider their quantity over quality approach before making any switch 2 games, but who am i kidding, this is the biggest media company in the world, they could pump out slop 10 years in a row and sales would barely drop below the usual...

  • @CamDaGR8X
    @CamDaGR8X 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I could be wrong, but I _really_ don’t see a Pokémon game, much less a major one like a mainline RPG, getting announced because at this point, Game Freak and The Pokémon Company have received lots of pushback from people saying the games are not up to snuff now.
    Sword and Shield had Dexit, BDSP were incredibly barebones and low quality, and Scarlet and Violet were very buggy at launch and still today run like molasses. The only main game from them that hasn’t received massive negative criticism has been Legends: Arceus, which was followed very shortly by the announcement of SV.
    There’s too much games at a low quality being put out by them, and hopefully, they’ve begun realizing that their output is not feasible.
    I highly doubt that Legends: Z-A is going to be early 2025, and think Gen X is going to be late 2026 in accordance with the 30th anniversary. We need a break from Pokémon, and hopefully they’re giving us breathing room, with the only major project coming from TPC being Creatures’ Pokémon TCG Pocket for mobile.
    That said, more information about Z-A and Pocket are very likely for an August Presents, as we have not heard anything about those projects since. But in terms of console game output, I really hope and think they are going to hold back this year and let their teams actually make games that people don’t feel revulsion towards at launch.
    That being said, I’d love Pokken Tournament 2 to exist, but I think we need a break.
    Apologies for my very long comment, just wanted to express myself thoroughly.

      @@nintendoforecast probably Pokemon Emerald would be the biggest deal for nostalgic fans since it has no rereleases and came out 20 years ago in japan (an anniversary also shared with fire red and leaf green) with remakes of ruby and sapphire being 10 years ago, but they would realistically want to do the older and less advanced game boy games first like were on 3DS unless they are being relegated to NSO. A 2nd generation game would be an odd first choice, but I think any mainline game boy game just untouched with emulation would have no issue reaching 1 million, with a treatment like f-zero 99 probably 5 million, and as a collection (difficult with wanting to sell multiple versions, but perhaps doing red gold ruby and blue silver sapphire would work) it may do similarly to mario 3d all-stars... in general I think there is a lot of opportunity for a pixel art pokemon game
