Not to deny your video isn't GOG Galaxy the same thing? Like Playnite is third party, but gog is authentic, third party for steam and epic but still. What do you think?
Hey Rohit, great question! I did a bit of research before this video and honestly the two are incredibly similar in achieving the same goal. Playnite is an open-source application, meaning if you know how you could look at exactly how it's coded. GOG is a bigger company, so obviously you aren't able to do the same thing there, some people are worried about that and who has access to their account, there's actually a section of their F.A.Q. about if GOG Galaxy will spy on their computer. I'm not exactly sure how many game platforms GOG Galaxy features but Playnite has them all. It seems from the threads of Reddit I looked through, Playnite has done a good job with updates and usability over the years, whereas GOG Galaxy updates seemed to have slowed down, with bugs and issues going unresolved. It also seems like a larger percentage of people prefer Playnite over GOG Galaxy when comparing the two, however I haven't used it myself so cannot provide additional input. So honestly, it really comes down to preference! The differences between the two programs is fairly minimal, so it really depends on what you're looking for, or what you're used to! Plus, I want this video to continue to be helpful and informative in the future, and it seems Playnite will be here to stay :) Thanks for watching as always!
I used Gog Galaxy 2.0 before switching to Playnite. Playnite lets you connect all of your emulators (Retroarch, Dolphin, PCSX2, etc). Both launchers give each game custom cover art but Playnite has more detailed descriptions, more options for sorting games and has a fullscreen mode where you can select your games with a controller. Playnite is much more customizable with skins, addons, and tools. Another weird thing about Gog Galaxy is the window for the program is huge even if you shrink it as far as possible. Playnite's window can be shrunk a lot smaller.
Wanted to let you know that I finally took the plunge and installed Playnite. And it's amazing. Came to the decision when I just glanced at my GOG account and noticed I already owned a few games that I had added to my Steam wishlist recently. Didn't even know I already owned them lmao. So thanks for the recommendation, Nard!
It's great for an all-in-one solution to games that aren't on Steam, instead of 5+ different launchers, even Steam and Playnite are great if you can fit them all there! I hope the library management has gone well! :D
@@NardView Yeah, it's been great for keeping inventory. I don't really use it to launch games from it but as something that keeps track of everything I have.
Someone please share how to add custom script for play button with an automation to mount an iso file with playnite and execute program from the mounted drive , thank you in advance
It does not, you need to manually add each library, skip to around 4:04 in the video and I go over adding another library (Epic Games) to your Playnite library!
Playnite only detects games I have installed. Since I only keep a handful of games installed instead of the, literally, hundreds of games I own, that makes this all but useless. When I link my accounts EPIC, GoG, and Steam accounts all my games are listed, not just those installed. This might be decent some time in the future, but it has that major hurdle to overcome first.
It's not a game installer. It's a game frontend launcher. Meaning instead of using regular game exe. The picture image in playnite is the exe. You're just putting the exe under a picture to make the interface look pretty. That's it.

The real problem i had with this launcher was it's hanger-ons, on Github, who (quite literally) verbally sucked-off the coders of this game and acted like a bunch of mindless attack dogs when anyone made any criticism and i'm talking 5 years ago. While this is a pretty decent launcher, like all good software, they attract really toxic followers with that "Don't you EVER say an unkind word" mentality. nuff said?

GOG has all but given up on the galaxy launcher. playnite has way more options, as someone who loved it, it is sad that GOG gave up on it.

What? It can also detect uninstalled games. You probably have a filter on.
