    Final Fantasy X
    StarCraft 2
    Mirror's Edge
    Fallout New Vegas
    Divinity 2

For me, mortal kombat, (mk 10 and mk 11 more specifically) is my first go to game if i'm feeling stressed out or only have a very limited amount of time to game. I can't imagine anyone who doesn't enjoy fatalities or brutalities. Even playing as scorpion on easy and spamming spear and teleport attacks is entertaining. Gears of war and diablo 3 are close 2nds, chainsawing locusts and killing demons(diablo 3)never gets old

99% of the time this just means you don't actually want to play any games but you just default to it because its just what you usually do. if you end up forcing yourself to play something when you feel like this you're just gonna make the experience of playing games more and more dull to yourself, like it genuinely starts to suck the enjoyment out of them. my suggestion would be to try to have like a wide variety of things u enjoy doing. find a couple shows you like watching, a book you like reading, and pick up some creative hobbies like art, music, writing, etc. :D having a lot of stuff you like to do like this honestly makes life feel way more fulfilling and u hardly get these moments where u dont feel like doing anything! also it can rly help to change scenery when ur doing other things, like if u usually play games in ur room go sit on ur couch or outside while u watch a show or sketch or whatever variety is good for u :D
quick edit 2 months later of some stuff i wanted to include originally but didnt bc a lot of ppl seem to appreciate this advice:
ive personally dealt with depression my entire life, and a lot of the stuff i talked about in my original comment went hand in hand with my experience with depression, i just didnt want to assume others who felt this way were also depressed so i didnt talk about them. but if u feel the same way i would recommend a few rly tiny things that have really helped me..
first, please do not play games with all your lights off its so bad for your eyes and your mental health, try to let sunlight into your room whenever you can. also make ur bed and tidy up ur area whenever you have the energy/motivation to do it. if you're not sure when the next time youll feel productive is, you should focus on things like this that will make you feel better, safer, and more comfortable in your space, other things can wait ^^ also there is nothing wrong with just laying in bed and doing nothing for a few hours sometimes you need that and you shouldn't be upset at yourself for it! last thing, if you're sitting at your pc with some free time wanting to do something but you dont feel like doing anything, it can start to feel really frustrating and it makes it harder to pick. often times id just give up and go lay in bed BUT ive found that taking a quick hot shower helps me like reorganize my brain and just helps my mood a LOT and by the time im done i dont really feel like im staring at this brick wall anymore :p ik it sounds silly but idk it works for me
      hope ur all doing well

@@fragr33f74 they are programming our brains, some call it tik tok brain it's a real phenomenon, we are losing our ability to focus for longer than 60 seconds at a wack. youtube is guilty of this as well with their shorts. twitter only allowed a certain amount of characters per tweet for the longest time (maybe still do idk I don't use it)
The powers that be (our tech overlords) want us to consume and move on to the next product within 60 seconds (EDIT: it's so they can push more ads per hour). Constantly swiping never stopping, it reminds me of one of those little birds that do almost perpetual motion bobbing up and down that's our fingers our fingers are the bird.
I'm old, I didn't always use to be this way, I don't consume tik tok, and I try to stay away from the shorts but I still got tik tok brain. It's so hard to concentrate now.

It echoes our life and how we never have enough time in a day to accomplish the things we’re expected to. All we can do is try to keep our heads above water.

    • @saikimayu
      @saikimayu 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +83

The thing that helped me get over FOMO was the acceleration of the hype cycle. It was always a bad thing I think, but the cycle at least used to last long enough for you to sit and enjoy doing "the popular thing".
Now games come and go in like 48 hours. Most of the hype is in the pre-release phase now, then the streamers get early access. That's 80% of the hype; I think more people watch games than actually play them.
Then day 1 everyone else binges a speedrun and by day 2 you're the only one still playing.
This is also why so many games get unfair hate. Everyone is in such a perpetual FOMO rush that they just beeline for the credits in a single, miserable, sleep deprived sitting, then say the game was bad.
No, what was bad was not actually engaging with it in a meaningful way and doing it while you were physically exhausted.
If you just acted like a human, you might have had fun.

Yeah If you genuinely want to play something, you will not have the problem described in the video. I think it was a giveaway when he mentioned tiredness/sleep deprivation. If you don't have energy, most games aren't really satisfying, and even though your mind/ego thinks you want to play games (due to past positive experiences), it's not what you really want (i.e., it's not what your body wants). So then our lack of energy might make us gravitate to TH-cam for the easy dopamine hits, which certainly isn't helping. But what's suggested in this video wouldn't be helping either (just pick some game and play it anyway), because that would also not be a genuinely relaxing/rejuvenating activity to our bodies.
Rather we should do something to actually relax and rejuvenate ourselves, rather than deplete our limited energies with gaming. I.e. we should tune in more with our bodies/emotions, and do something that is better in line with the real state of our body. (It could be reading, watching some light and casual tv-show, take a bath, maybe meditate, or just go to sleep.)

It took about 7 years of trying different things before I found essentially a dream job working PRIVATELY for a couple, not some darn corporation who erroneously reports my earnings as "income" which almost no one does. I can work part time and still have $ to save. THIS IS WHAT I WANTED. So figure out what YOU want, work hard and stay focused. I think that´s the main cause: being adults hit us WAY harder than we expected. And having major responsibilities like having a job, living alone, having a gf/wife, etc, it´s taking a toll because we honestly weren´t ready. Sounds weird and arrogant but who knows? maybe it´s true.
I don´t hate being an adult, and having responsiblities like that make me feel like i have a purpose on this earth, but i can say that i personally wasn´t ready for any of that due to my living habits before becoming an adult. But now what? welp... society doesn´t care if i´m comfortable or not, or if i have trauma or mental issues; society will keep going on without me, so i´ll relax a little, work on my mental health, accept the fact that whatever i accomplished (or didn´t) is enough, i´ll dedicate times to myself alone, and celebrate accomplishments even if people think they´re trivial, like cleaning my room, etc. And in the end, slowly get back to what society deems "normal", but at MY own pace, not at the pace of others.
Just my two cents after years of feeling like this. Hope it gave you a different perspective, or at least i hope it made you feel listened. Have a good one, bro!

I think it's the fact that we are so busy with things now compared to before when we were younger with so many obligations that the little bit of free time we do have to play we feel like we are wasting it being unproductive instead of doing something else productive that we later have to fulfill. We always have some sort of chore that we push off that isn't urgent yet and that keeps remaining at the back of our mind preventing us from enjoying the present. I feel the same way when I go on a vacation somewhere, I feel sadden that it will end and that I have to return back to the hell that is reality.

I don't want to have to waste that time trying to find a switch or solve a puzzle, or try to figure out where I actually left off and what I need to do. So I either play a racing game or a shooting game that is mindless typically open world where I can just goof off for the time I have. Some games it may take me an hr to figure out the controls AGAIN and remember what I was doing before I left the game the last time.

So I'd play the same game for like 6 months because it's what I had, and I loved it. Now, I have hundreds of games and when I'm playing one I'm thinking "what about that other game". Or I see a sale and buy more games. Things were easier when I was younger, had no money, and games had to last me for half a year before I'd get another.

What caught me is the sentence "what if I don't enjoy it? Then my free hour is ruined" - that adds unnecessary pressure. Not just for gaming or fun. But I have mild anxiety disorder, and lately started working on how to ignore the "what if" questions. It affects so many facets of our lives and unless we learn to control it, or ignore it, it can end up as a downward spiral, like it has for me.
I think same we can apply here. Back when I was a kid, then also I could get hardly an hour to play a game (else risk getting caught by parents for not studying 😝) - but back then I wasn't haunted by the "what ifs" Maybe because back then, even if a gaming session is ruined, I thought there's still tomorrow, but now as grown ups we're getting too aware of how much little time we actually have after balancing everything else that's going on in our lives.
You have articulated the video really well - I believe not just people who are into games, but rather everyone who has been feeling a little overwhelmed, be it for daily stress or anxiety, should watch this video. Will definitely recommend to some people I know.

This hits home so much for me. Decision paralysis is a real thing. We've heard the term be used when it comes to streaming services like Netflix, Prime, etc., but it definitely applies to gaming nowadays too. I'm not even a "busy" guy by most peoples standards; I work a 7:30-4 job, weekends off, live alone w/ a single, low maintenance cat. No extra curricular activities. Yet I speed home from work, with plenty of time to do things, but when I sit down to devote it to some gaming, I do the Steam library death scroll... I have my handful of go-to favorites, yet I still find myself going "oh this got an update, should I revisit it?" "I always wanted to try this one, should I dive into this?"
I do this for a few minutes and then yeah, sometimes ultimately end up opening Chrome and going to TH-cam. And it's like my brain gets a dopamine fix because being entertained suddenly sounds more desirable that putting "brain energy" into a game, and putting that into words now makes me sad to realize how quickly i give-in to that state :(.

True. I find it so hard not to think I have this or that to do. I often keep checking the time too, and even when I ticked everything off my to do list for the day, I still feel like i should be doing more instead of gaming. It's a struggle I haven't found a solution to because you're never truly done, there's always more you could be doing.

    Hello there, Psychologist here !
Here are 2 fun facts :
    - There's no such thing about not being motivated. You're either motivated to do the thing you want to do, or you're motivated to do something else.
    - Boredom always comes when your brain compares one thing you're doing with another you could be doing instead, and you'll often pick the less boring, making it entertaining.
This being said : if you are in a position where you don't feel like anything but you want to play at something, here's a trick : Instead of scrolling or binge watching, get off your computer, lay down and close your eyes until you can think about what you are more motivated to do / play. You will either eventually stand up because you're bored to just do nothing with your eyes closed and will find what bores you less, or you will take a nap because you could also use that.
Anyway Good luck, Have fun !

I have some solid tips to share that helped me 🙏🏻
•Never buy into the hype of a game, only play when you are ready! (You aint missing out on anything if you eventually play it)
•Play a game your interested in completely blind (discovering the ins and outs of a game by yourself is so fucking fun and need to he respected more)
    •Keep your rotation of games small! I stick to about 3 games. My rotation at the moment is;
Eldern Ring w/ seamless co op
    Starfield
Minecraft (first time playing hardcore and with mods)
•Respect your time! If the game is boring you... Making you rage... Or is grindy for the sake of it then delete it and move on, have no mercy with it
•Try different genres/styles of games! It can simply open up options for you in the future. Learned this after playing Div 2, thought i would hate that style of game but now i crave it 😭
•Have zero tolerance for games that make you rage especially! Makes absolutely no sense booting up a game knowing it will make you rage. Think about it, its honestly the dumbest thing you can do.
•Avoid playing with people that demand you use the meta, especially if the game is easy (destiny 2) or you are playing casuals (rainbow 6) at the end of the day you paid £40-60 from your hard earned money so play how ever the fuck you want! Gaming should always be fun! (If fun comes from winning, then obviously playing meta is a good idea. if it means you can win more that is)
    And Most importantly!!
•Go easy on consuming TH-cam content on a game your interested in!Too much content and im feeling burned out before ive even started playing. I tend to go hard on watching content after completing a game and/or its out of my rotation. Or if a game is super complicated then i tend to watch beginner tips videos to get me started. Honestly cant recommend this enough.
These are just my tips, this has helped me enjoy gaming again! This wont work for everyone but if it helps just alittle then it was worth ranting 😇

Same here and so many games require a lot of time until you finally reach a point ingame that is actually fun!
Then you quit for a while and have to relearn everything lmao.
I'd love to excessively play all games and micromanage+min/max everything and immerse myself into the story, but that's impossible, because life is limited, duh! But many devs don't get it and think their game is the next WoW or BG3... and you have to learn the mechanics and dedicate 100+ hours for it. This needs to change! Games should receive some sort of a relaxing fun mode.
At my age I prefer easily accessible games such as Battlebit, FIFA, Skater XL, Shredders and simultaneously stream YT or Netflix while shutting down my brain lol. But I love so much other genres and sim games, but damn they're too complex and when I boot one up, I quit after 15 mins, because it feels like work.
The decision part is also very hard. Sometimes I even struggle where to play (UWA monitor, on the sofa via TV, handheld in bed or outside).
Sometimes I wish I had that motivation to give my time for a game like I gave for WoW, Elite Dangerous, C&C 1/TS, ArmA and some others many years/decades ago. And imagine, there was a time where we could only choose out of a bunch of games, cuz we couldn't afford more. At least I haven't used the word "bored" for decades and when I manage to enter a complex game and don't quit after 15 mins, I end up enjoying its atmosphere and thankfully I reached the point where I'm satisfied without the urge of having to finish it (and I'm rather the completionist type).
I bet many of us have tried to comfort our minds by saying: "When I'm retired, I'll finally dedicate my time for gaming". Meanwhile I'm like: "When I'm dead, there hopefully will be a place beyond time and some sort of a creation/unlimited decisions mode, so I can replay it all!" Oh and of course without decision making problems xD

Same goes with some PC games where people have created mods that change how the saving system works for that game, though not as widespread as emulating older systems.

It's weird since it's less of a game and more of an amazing entertainment experience. My favorite games are action based and I hate reading in games but Outer Wilds is about solving a mystery by reading with no combat and no upgrades and I still think it is amazing. The only gamey part of it is probably flying the ship. If you do play it, don't look up gameplay since it is not linear and can be spoiled to the point of not being able to play it by just watching a minute or two of gameplay. Your initial impression from the graphics, will be that it is some little simple indie game but it is definitely not that. Also be prepared to not have a clue about what is going on until the last 1-2 hours of the game.

I just got rid of a lot of games and only kept the ones I REALLY want.
Now I pick one game, and I don't let myself play another until that one is thoroughly 100 percent complete.
Sometimes I'm not in the mood for that game, in which case I just do something that isn't playing a game.
It's a better life balance, and it helps filter my choices. What I've noticed in my method is a regression to older games.
I started replaying Perfect Dark. It took me like 2 hours to beat it on easy, but there's plenty of other content to keep me playing it for a while.
These games now that have 40 hour campaigns and take 1,000 hours to 100%...I'm done with that. No game is sophisticated enough to justify that - it's all padding and artificial/intentional inconveniencing. Those games are DESIGNED to WASTE your time so you will just sit there and get milked.
I'm not doing that anymore. There are more than enough different games to last me the rest of my life without sinking a whole year into just one of them.
I'm also a lot more discerning about what I pick, because once I start I am locked into that so it's a real commitment.
There are plenty of games that are "fun enough". I'd probably enjoy them, but do I care enough to fully commit like that? The answer is usually no.
This stops me from just "scrolling" through games as a time waster. I have a clearly defined project with a start and end point.
One of the biggest mental detriments of "scrolling" through games is that you get in the habit of never finishing anything. It's all just impulsive distraction and that rewires your brain in a way that negatively affects your mood and other areas of your real life.
It took me years to really stick to my method and I "fell off the wagon" plenty of times...always regretted it too. The whole thing really mimics substance addiction.
My first "this needs to change" moment was around 2008 when I was really into MMORPGs. At some point I just sat back and thought "this never ends, and I'm spending so much time working towards...nothing."

This is how I normally play, stick with it from start to finish. But that gets hard when playing with friends most of the time because they always want to play something new after a few days and that is difficult for me. Then the times I just want to chill and play my own game I cannot quite get into because I know someone will hit me up to play with them. Its a hard choice a lot of times because I do enjoy playing with my friends, just gets exhausting sometimes.
Thats why in February I was like ok I need a break from y'all and took the month off from them and focused on just playing the Witcher 3 for the first time from start to finish. That was a fun month of vacation, I miss Gwent haha.

Yeah, same here. I have 2 kids under 3, and gaming for me is pretty much non-existent. I agree with games like skyrim and Fallout since you can pause when you need to. Games like overwatch or other quick games where I can squeeze in 1 or 2 rounds have been good because, on an average day, 20 minutes is all I have time to play.

I think when people do this kind of talking head over video game footage, they should put a small banner when a game shows up with the name of the game. I think it adds a bit of premium feel, and the viewer might see something they like and want to try it out. Like 0:55 is definitely some kind of monster hunter, but which one? I see the list in the pinned comment, but making a template now in AE or finding one, then just having a little pop out tag in the bottom that you have to give it the text, that'd be pretty cool.

I personally have a list of my favorite single player games. I let my Xbox select which one I play. If Xbox decides I’m playing Red dead redemption 2, I play red dead redemption 2 to credits and remove it from my list and then select the surprise me option on Xbox again for another game to play through. The list is full of games I know I have already enjoyed and new games I will most likely enjoy, so it’s pretty much a guaranteed good time.

Other factors that may contribute to that decision paralysis with games is the type of games you often play.
Online-centered games like multiplayer games may make you worried about maybe feeling pressured to join other friends playing online when you don't intend to play for long or you want to play alone. Competitive multiplayer games can make you hesitant about playing because you're afraid of going on a losing streak and feeling unsatisfied with your playing session.
Games with sign-in screens, long load-times, or requirements of other applications running the background may make you hesitant to play them because they ask you to commit your time and a chunk of your pc's resources before even playing them.
What helped me was to get single-player games on sale that were quick to boot up and play, with a story or premise that interested me, and had some way to save progress frequently.

I think it’s because the games that are popular are the games our friends play, so we drain our energy on something familiar so when it’s to to invest time into something else we just go back to what we know… but then it start to drain us more and more, and then games are no longer fun.
