Thanks for another great video! Working on that pattern now. If you are still looking for 90s songs I have two possible candidates: 'Moving On Up' by M People. Not sure how famous it was. And one that maybe qualifies, as I think was released in the 90s. 'Iron Lion Zion' by Bob Marley, the outro solo. Especially the fade out has a cool pattern.
I was listening to this thinking it sounded just like something very familiar, and then at around 2:57 I put it together than this is the discord ringtone!
Excited to try this out! Love all the stuff you create. Really loving the improv stuff, the solo ideas, fast fingers practice.. all of it! Great job. Can’t wait to try this little pattern!!

What a bear! Reminds me a bit of #131 from Rascher's 158, but even more insane and in FIVE! Is this your idea? Or did someone show you it? What a wild pattern. It's going to take some time for me to it get under my hand. Thanks... I think. I can see you doing it in the middle and upper ranges, but down low... my pinky fingers are getting a real workout!
That low bit is a bear within the bear world! I'll give you a tip though - when you play the Ab (the 5th note of the first ascending version), use the C# LH pinkie key, then you're in position for the next note already.
@@GetYourSaxTogether yup, know about holding down the LH pinkie for lots of similar hurdles, but thanks for tip. So who came up with this pattern? You never said.
I love your stuff Jamie you give so much it's brill.....however I have say this is about as unmelodic as you can get.....jars my ears actually.....but I could consider chucking it in as a novelty if I was out of ideas....keep em coming though....can't all be winners!
Yup, it's not melodic in a traditional, lyrical way, I agree. It's an angular, jarry, ambiguous sound. But the beauty of music is the fact that it can express many emotions - not just diatonic lyricism. The BEAUTY of music is in the fact that it can jar your ears, then when you hear a Lester Young ballad it'll sound all the better. I like to have a wide palette to paint with, so I don't think it's so much that this video isn't a winner, or that it's a novelty, I think maybe you don't like the taste of this dish. The fault isn't with the food. I don't like sweetcorn that much, but there's nothing wrong with sweetcorn! lol
@@GetYourSaxTogether that is very true about the taste of the dish....and I totally agree about having a wide palette to paint with....perhaps it's just that it's a new sound to me and I'm not sure how I could use it (yet).....unfamiliar....help...how....where....when......lots to think about....!!!

Odeon Pope (almost like me) blew my mind with this kind of jumps, thanks for the pdf
You're welcome!
It’s the circle of 5ths all the way through! That helped me figure it out
👍
Thanks for keepin it raw! It’s actually encouraging 😀. And I like how you weave it into a solo!
Always raw! lol
Nice! Joe Viola taught me several similar patterns when I was at berklee, ones i have used quite often in my playing.
Cool man 👍🏻
Nice, sounds more funky ascending
😎
Merci beaucoup Jamie
de rien!
talking about 4ths, I think you could work some of this idea into So What solos because piano also works a lot in fourths on that.
true!
Great lic idea. I'm hearing this as a great solo idea in a fast blues or a groove, such as 'Pick Up The Pieces'.
Yeah!
Another great drill from you. Thanks. And, sincere thanks for showing your humanity ... to err is human!
Yeh, that was rough, never mind! We're all human. lol
Very cool pattern. You are inspiring!
Thanks 🙏🏻
Really nice pattern. Thanks Jamie😃

Thanks, champ.

Wow. Who knew.
I got a Tenor a few days ago, I'll probably play this with it today.
go for it!

Cool stuff, Jamie. Thanks.
No problem!
Great post Jamie. Coffee's in the ether.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks SO much for the coffee. :-)
Fantastic exercise and great 👍 video⭐️✌️
Thanks
My wife didn't look as happy as the woman in your video thumbnail when I tried to play it!: :-)
lol
I didn't know the Master Class series was going to be FREE! You definitely deserve a few coffees. (other beverages are available).
You're welcome, and thanks for the coffee!
Going up (3 Pentatonic a half step up) it may be 251 - like the last three are in fact Dm7-G7Alt-CLydian ...
If I've learned anything in my improvising career, it's that you can shoehorn anything into a two five one! Well spotted. :-)
@@GetYourSaxTogether So , we can play anything ... Just kidding - you are great ...
Those 3 pentatonic scales going up are a well known harmonic trick
Il like the 4ths pattern - starting low D (ascending) D G C F Bb Eb then down to C which sort of outlines C min7
Yeah, sounds pretty tasty!
Great pattern. I've definitely heard this before in songs, cool to see what it is.
Glad you like it!
Nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice! Adding that to the technique part of my practice routine.
yeh, superb for technique.
Sounds quite like a Brecker lick! (and who doesn't wanna sound like Mike... ;)
Bob Berg gave me this pattern 20 years ago! Takes work to get it fluent. Keep in mind it’s a variant of the pentatonic scale.
for sure.
yeh, come to think of it, it IS all the notes of the pentatonic, isn't it? Never thought of that!!
Pretty cool. Well worth learning.Sounds like something of Frank Zappa. (That's a compliment.) Thanks for another great one.
yeh - throw that on a xylophone and trumpet, add some ridiculous lyrics and it's totally Zappa!

Would you use the same notes for alto as well?
This sound so cool and so complicated 😅
Of course; just a different concert key.
