Thanks for this one Jamie !!!! I’ve been chomping at the bit to get some altissimo fingerings and the ability to hit them with as little squeaking on them as possible …..
Back in the 60s, I was playing alto, and my idea of altissimo, not from being taught by anyone, was to open up all the left hand palm keys, squeak and control the pitch by embouchure. Nice that you give an acknowledgment to Sirvalorsax.
I just started working on altissimo about a week ago on tenor and just *finally* got a front-f altissimo G out (by adding the G# key). Now, all of the sudden, higher notes are starting to get more accessible. But that first G was "elusive" to put it nicely. Also - my apologies to all of the dogs in the neighborhood - lol.
That G and G# for me are still weird. I finally got G by not using the octave key, and G# is still weird. Then, funny, a harder reed and both come out fine but the higher notes are harder. Long story short, I think those notes need a setup (tract reed bore) that play well together. Imo cheers

Thank you again, Jamie! Dropping down is coming - I can hear the notes wanting to come out, but they sound all multiphonic-like so far.

As a newish player (15 mths in) I also find Tenor altissimo is far easier than Alto. Thanks, Jamie. Love your lessons Graham
Finally a different way to approach and apprehend the dreaded and yet amazing altissimo. I love the idea to explore all the notes we can come up with on a single fingering. I like the idea to insist on the "squeeks" instead of avoiding them and then get the help of the piano or tuner to fine tune it. Of course ! I can't wait to try that.
I've been stuck on alt G for years. Recently started using Legere reeds and find it much easier to hit the high notes. Tried the side Bb and Fork F, and BAM alt D started popping. Thanks Jamie! Now to fill in the rest😯
Nice! I'd been having issues with the G, too. It was frustrating. I could easily hit it on also keding the 1 3, 1 3 fingering. And I was able to hit other notes in tenor with relative ease. other notes were easier to hit. I'd been using only the fork key. I did find that adding the side Bb helped along with making sure my reeds were strong enough. But i still wasn't able to hit it 100% of the time on all of my setups. I've found using the left first finger (B) and right hand high F# sharp key (not the trill key) to be much easier. I can hit it almost all the time with that fingering. Try that if you're still having issues I still wanna work in the Fork/side Bb fingering as it sounds a tad fuller. But B/high F# is a good substitute in the meantime Best of luck!
Great video man!! LOL!! As for the Yamaha, I have a couple videos on the 4C and the 5C. Uhmm yeh it's not the reed or the mouthpiece. I'm noticing that your embouchure is super tight for this mouthpiece and you are actually biting off the sound. I use a lip-out technique. You talk about this in your "how to sound good on sax" embouchure section around 5:17. LOL!! Relaxing the embouchure is one of the most challenging things because it's really counter intuitive. Think more of playing double pianissimo with the Yamaha for the upper harmonics with a lip-out embouchure.

I should go back to stiffer reeds. For awhile last year, I was going supper soft, like. 1.75 Legere AC, to play around with a super bendy sound on a 7 tip opening. But I couldn’t play loud and I couldn’t touch altissimo. I think I’m back to reality now, playing 2.25 AC.
I’d love to see a video where the saxes from the instrument family play the same lines in terms of concert pitch so we can hear the difference in timbre between them. For example comparing the lowest notes of the tenor to the higher notes of the lower register on baritone, etc.
Impossible to diagnose over a TH-cam comment I’m afraid. You’d have to take a lesson with me for something like this. www.getyoursaxtogether.com/teaching
For soprano: www.mobetterblues.altervista.org/didattica/pdf/altissimo_fingerings_for_soprano_sax.pdf For baritone: www.mobetterblues.altervista.org/didattica/pdf/altissimo_fingerings_for_baritone_sax.pdf
Great lesson as always! Thank you for your pro tip on this tricky part of the saxophone register. When I practice this I tend to work more around the chords and play them through out the register of the horn. I just think it is easier to see if I’m at the right pitch. ex I play a G# maj7 chord up to that G altissimo and so on. In that way I think it is easier to practice to get it in your playing from the beginning. That’s just the way I practice this altissimo stuff😊
My biggest frustration is intonation. Even on palm keys, with what "feels" like my correct embouchure, I am almost a semi-tone flat. It just makes anything altissimo just that much more problematic. Some people can drive a stick shift, some people can't. That's just the reality of altissimo.
master you put your teeth under the lower lip and do the check I think with the muscles of the mouth it would be very difficult I have been treated and I have played a lot

It’s all about resistance and what you’re trying to achieve I guess.
I’d love to see a video where the saxes from the instrument family play the same lines in terms of concert pitch so we can hear the difference in timbre between them. For example comparing the lowest notes of the tenor to the higher notes of the lower register on baritone, etc.
That’s an interesting idea.
Please, help me Jamie. I can follow you from middle E flat to palm key D but the next is C# and nothing between them...
Impossible to diagnose over a TH-cam comment I’m afraid. You’d have to take a lesson with me for something like this. www.getyoursaxtogether.com/teaching
I am here , thanks i needed this
Very philosophical comment!
Is your chart working fine for a KING20 (no F# key) ?
Yeah. I don’t have high F#.
much needed!
😉
Great concept! thanks
Glad you liked it!
What about the bari?
Yeh, that’s a whole different scenario. I’m not a specialist at that.
I’m still struggling to find altissimo fingerings for both soprano and bari, pls help
For soprano: www.mobetterblues.altervista.org/didattica/pdf/altissimo_fingerings_for_soprano_sax.pdf
For baritone: www.mobetterblues.altervista.org/didattica/pdf/altissimo_fingerings_for_baritone_sax.pdf
Thank you so much 🙏🙏🙏🙏
You're most welcome
Great lesson as always! Thank you for your pro tip on this tricky part of the saxophone register. When I practice this I tend to work more around the chords and play them through out the register of the horn. I just think it is easier to see if I’m at the right pitch. ex I play a G# maj7 chord up to that G altissimo and so on. In that way I think it is easier to practice to get it in your playing from the beginning. That’s just the way I practice this altissimo stuff😊
Sure. That’s a pretty good strategy. 👍🏻
The Moment your "Donkey" even sounds like heaven hahaha ;)
🤣
Great video Jamie. I like those donkey noises!
Master the donkey, master altissimo! 🤣
Good some progress
Great
Harrison Birtwistle lives!
😊
Спасибо, очень круто :))
Не за что
Altissimo Frustissimo
🤣
I need some scaffolding
🤣
My biggest frustration is intonation. Even on palm keys, with what "feels" like my correct embouchure, I am almost a semi-tone flat. It just makes anything altissimo just that much more problematic. Some people can drive a stick shift, some people can't. That's just the reality of altissimo.
Yeh, sounds frustrating.
My neighbours won't thank me for this later!!! I'm excited, however.
Yeh I know. Lots of collateral damage for real!
I play 20 years but i cant play clear E,FG
Frustrating isn’t it?
For me it was only the donkey noises sadly.
Only the F# came out but that's easy.
Well, tomorrows another day, don’t worry.
I thought it was a good idea to try learning altissimo on soprano, oh boy...
Nightmare, right?
👍🎷👏🎷🎶🎷🔝
😎
“double g is ridiculous” Tell that to Jacques Ibert
😆
Oh I see then you can pentatonic lick off those fingerings and do changes…. Nice
:-)
#wrongnotesonly
🤣
master you put your teeth under the lower lip and do the check I think with the muscles of the mouth it would be very difficult I have been treated and I have played a lot
Ok. 🙃
My wife just left me.
Ha!
What a horrible teaching method, controlled squeaks, yuck.
🤷♀️
It’s 7 am can’t try it now such a pity 🥲🥲🥲
Love your lights ! Beautiful image 👌🏻✅🎷
