Geoff captured so well the _longing_ that ran through just about everything in all of Tolkien's stories of Middle-Earth. Everyone was yearning for something they'd lost or were trying to get back to, and the Dwarves' desire to return, first to the Lonely Mountain and then to Moria was so powerful you can almost taste it. (This wasn't the Fellowship portrayed here, though--apart from Gimli, the other four were all Dwarves from the Hobbit: Fili, Thorin, Kili and Bofur.)
Geoff got his inspiration for this style from Clamavi De Profundus. They are a chorus of gentlemen that are mostly bass and baritone. They are best known for their middle earth type songs but other types as well. I love most all their songs but my favorites are.... Song of Durin. When The Hammer Falls. Diggy Diggy Hole. The Last Goodbye. And yes. Geoff definitely brought new life to both of these as well as all the other songs he's done.
The fellow with the bow wasn't Legolas, it was Kili. What Geoff has done here is taken a scene from the LOTR books, where the Fellowship enters Moria and sees the vast underground city of the dwarves. Sam makes a comment about how could dwarves live in 'such darksome holes', and Gimli is instructing the young hobbit about the greatness of dwarf history, by chanting this old song about the dwarves' great first king and the city he founded. However, Geoff has gone a step further, in order to include his 'Geoff-ettes', by conjuring up a few dwarf ghosts from the past to accompany Gimli, specifically 4 of the dwarves from the movie version of _The Hobbit,_ characters who are now, a few decades later, but ghosts to Gimli. So, left to right, they are Fili, Thorin, Gimli, Kili and Bofur. And you can look up the images of each of these characters from _The Hobbit_ and LOTR to see their resemblance to Geoff's excellent makeup and costuming here.
I think he did the same four dwarves for Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold, minus Gimli who was either not yet born or still a child during The Hobbit.
your comment in Imagine couldn't have been more perfectly timed. there are people who will argue about it, saying he butchered the song, etc. I disagree. Geoff ALWAYS seems to be able to reach into a song a find that bit of emotion that needs to be pulled to the surface because everyone overlooks it, and it just brings the song to a whole new level.
@@parkerbrown-nesbit1747 as a cover it wasn't better than the original ,even lacking the inspiration of the lennon original. Additionally, I thought the overall talent / execution was substandard , when such an enormous undertaking demands a musician's very best, including a new and fresh vision and interpretation of the original. I refer you to THE WARNING, ENTER SANDMAN for an examplar of my statement. ❤️🎉😎

Song of Durin was solid as the hallowed walls he walked. Straight up dope. I love being a geek. 👍🤘🤟🐻
Such a beautiful pair of songs. Love the reverence in both of Geoff's versions. Geoff built the casket. She's so pretty.
