You're close--Thorin was the heir of Durin, as the grandson of Thror, the first King Under the Mountian at Erebor after the Dwarves were chased out of Moria. It sounds like you know the series well, so I won't elaborate further, but I love Geoff's decision to have Gimli 'summon' his father's and uncle's friends to sing this with him.
YES! Thank you! I’ve only read the book and watched the Hobbit films once and am thus much less versed with that side of the lore than I am with LOTR. - Cole
I absolutely love Geoff's "Song of Durin." It is beautiful. I have listened to it on repeat several times daily since it released! I hope that Geoff suffers through the costuming/makeup/beard changes resulting in long filming days to give us Middle Earth tunes for years to come. LOTR fan here too. I try to revisit all of Tolkien's Middle Earth books every handful of years. You are right, the Gimli's song is from the book, not the movie.
As you said, Gimli is the new dwarf. The ghosts from Geoff's Hobbit songs (Thorin, Kili, Fili, and Bofur) appear to sing with Gimli then disappear as he ends his song. Notice the book on set. He doesn't call attention to it, but it's there thanks to Kathy. She was even more heavily involved in this one than normal and did the costuming for Gimli. Did you notice that Geoff has a prosthetic nose for the Gimli character? Kathy wasn't sure if he would choose to wear it but ordered it just in case. Geoff made the Balin's tomb prop in his garage.
They were supposed to have filmed this in July but had to wait because Pattycake ended up having the forest set up for a couple of extra months for their own projects. (VoicePlay used the forest set while it was up for their "Classical Chaos" video.) Definitely couldn't shoot "Song of Durin" in a forest!
We need to keep all of Florida, including our VoicePlay guys and their families, in our prayers during the coming hours. They live in the cone of Hurricane Milton's path.
I have been worried about them all day
I know they are all smart and able to evacuate, but I am a worrier when someone I like may be in danger.

Geoff just sounds amazing in EVERY PART of his range ❤
I love to see reactors get caught up in the beauty of the music. Geoff is always perfection.
I like to just imagine JRR Tolkien's reaction! I think he'd be humbled of how his writings inspired people to recreate Middle-earth in film, song, costumes, etc.
The Chorus of Geoff sounds wonderful, as usual. And whomever does the make-up and costuming has earned their own stars in the sky.
Geoff built that tomb of Balin, son of Fundin himself in his garage. Took Kathy and him a whole day to set up the stage. They even included the book about the dwarves attempt to resettle Moria
Geoff is absolutely wonderful! His ability to express emotion is amazing. My favorite of his Hobbit/LOTR set is I See Fire. That said, this is wonderful as well! Great reaction, Cole, I love watching you become enraptured!
VoicePlay dropped Thriller today! This was a poem "Song of Durin" in the Lord of the Rings, now is also a song. I love the reverence for the Durin's folk. This one is my favorite of the Hobbit/Lord of the Rings video.
Thanks, Cole!
We wanted to see how the brain would react. Chose your reaction; lovely deep voices. Can definitely tell I need more healing.
This song was actually a poem. But Geoff made it sound like a sorrowful tribute. Not like a heavy metal or aggressive version that takes away from what it should sound like. Geoff knows how to reach deep down into your soul like no other base singer can. He made the coffin & stand in his garage. He thinks of everything.
The characters from L to R: Fíli, Thorin Oakenshield, Gimli, Kíli, Bofur. Don't blame me, I'm not familiar enough with with either The Hobbit or LotR to figure them out, but others have gone through the clothing, armor, and especially mustaches and beards to figure them out. Because of the bow and arrows and the cleanshaven appearance, Kíli is often mistaken for Legolas, but since the 4 characters started off in Misty Mountains and I See Fire from The Hobbit, before Legolas was really mentioned, it's pretty certain that he's Kíli - he was also (relatively) cleanshaven and an archer.
If you want to see Geoff at one of his best then please do a reaction video to Voice Plays cover of Be Prepared from the Lion King. This part was made for him. Also Voice Play just came out with their brand new cover Thriller . It is their Halloween video.
the other dwarves Thorin (Richard Armitage one) Fili, Kili and one of the other dwarves from the hobbit
Bofur, the one at the right end.
@@carinarodebak9419 thanks I couldn’t quite remember been a while since I watched the hobbit
Bofur, specifically!
