Just finished welding school and doing the pipefitting program, you’re an awesome teacher and the way you carry yourself and explain things and the confidence behind your knowledge I automatically knew you were a veteran, then you said 03XX from the Corps and it made sense, we can definitely sense and recognize a fellow Devil Dog lol. Don’t underestimate your grunts, they’re some of the smartest guys I know!
I am doing this job from 2014 in Florida, I didn’t know nothing about this, but working hard, learning everything from each coworker I got it, nice video
Great info man I'm a rig welder and have never gotten into pipe fittings but I know it's eventually gonna catch up to me. Your video was very informative and resourceful. Thank you.
Man, I am a mobile welder and that pipe fitting has caught up to me. The pipes that I am working with are huge 24" to 53" You are right, it will catch up with you. I need to learn how to use this blue book.😢
Good job buddy, I could see that you've already been around the block, these method's you just explained, is only learned and self Masterd in the field with trial and error....but once you've Masterd all the technical details, that's when life gets easier, at the end of the day, youve gained so many knowledge and 10 different methods depending on what tool is on hand, that you make your job look so easy to others.... EVERY thing you've just explained, is stuff you cannot learn of paper but only on job or in field work, like you've said there so many more ways to saddle in, but Myself personally use the best method on point were I find myself in the field, and which tools are on hand, weather I'm working on Hights or in Confined spaces,..... Keep up the good work buddy.... Lots of new comers would definitely learned a thing or two
Dude, I fucking loved this video. Im an Electrician, and I like to check on pipe fitter videos so I can steal your trig formulas. It is applicable to bend electrical conduit. You explain this in a very understandable manner. Keep it up.
First thank you for your military service second that was a great lesson on fitting pipe. I looked at the those chain vise grips and save them to my list
I got the blue book, but I can't find that in mine at 2:09. I really like how in your book, it shows the fitting and then the various measurements for it. I ain't got any picture of fittings like that in mine. It definitely isn't on page 95.
@@cisnerofam08 See I didn't know that there were two different books. One I got is also literraly a blue book, but is called pipe fabricators blue book. You ever use that book? Which one is the better of the two if you had to have one? Thanks

Good video, however I noticed one thing. I would recommend NOT hammering the punch for finding the center, on an existing line. If it’s existing I always use a marker or soap stone.
@@kingkolt886 the seller is Anadorn LLC its $31 and a $4 delivery fee. They are out of Virginia. If you look they have the best reviews from people who bought from them. The book in the video was purchased from them.
just was offered a job as a traveling pipe welder for an industrial refrigeration company. wonder if its the same one. Are you still there? its like this video was made for me. No real fitter experience but im capable enough, and am using this time leading up to my first trip to crash course myself. Any other tips/advice on what to expect?
The ⁵/⁸ method is used to find the take off of a butt weld 45° fitting. This method starts to work from 4" and bigger. The take off for a 3" 45° BW elbow is 2". If you use this method 5/8 X 3 = 1 7/8" which is incorrect.
There are several books out there in this field of work, so I can't really speak specifically on those. The one in here is The Pipe Fitters Blue Book by W.V. Graves.

Where did you buy the pipe fitters blue book at ? I’m hesitant because I read that there are counterfeit copies sold of them blue book online.

Please use the correct terminology. Level is a horizontal measurement and Plumb is a vertical measurement.
You are 100% right, thank you for pointing it out!
The take off for 3/4" LR 90° Ell is not 1 1/8 THE BLUE BOOK HAS BEEN WRONG since 1973!!! 1/2"-1" is all 1 1/2" T.O.
Excellent
Thank you! Cheers!
