Excellent video. Here is a little trick. When you get your hole cut in the runner some people might call this the header portion of the branch, clean it up and get it all shiny. Then for one final step take a cone grinder and radius the inside of the cut (the portion of the edge where your bead needs to tie into on the inside of the pipe). By making a radius on this it will all but guarantee you a full penetration root pass because it won’t allow visible edges to remain. A big bust (fail the weld test) for welders is when the inspector can see edges on the inside. If you radius the edge you leave no square edges to for the inspector to see. This might be hard to understand but just ask and I’ll try to clear it up.
Best explanation & demo of the best & proper way to perform a layout & fit up, for a Pipeline Branch Test! If these youngsters can’t grasp the concept of how to go about implementing & practicing the proper way on taking a Branch Test…..Then they have ABSOLUTELY NO BUSINESS, doing so! I wish I would have had this process laid out & explained to me, this clearly from the jump! Would have saved me a ton of time & heartbreak/heartache in the beginning! Great job guys! 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 🏆

Bc they're shop workers. It's easy to spot the hard workers in the field. They'll have a green or orange shirt that has grinding holes and pipe dope all over it. You'll get guys that wear cologne and dress up real nice but they're almost always in debt and there's always something they "can't" do or it "isn't their job" to do. Amen bro! Appreciate it! A lot of gas companies are moving towards this method of branch testing. I had to learn the hard way (failing a test). Thanks for the great video guys! Another one for the books.

I did that kind of test many times n I did not have any help ,u take that kind of time n the inspector does not like it its a real tough test, plus then u have to do ur bellhole test test allso in less than 8 hours, u have to be a professional welder to do this in 8 hours by your self.
Always wondered how these saddles were made, I dont deal with much pipe where I work but he have augers in tubes that we have to replace the tube once in a while which requires doing this. Usually we get premade saddles with the auger but I'm sure they need modified to change the angles of the mounting position.
This is awesome. Can't wait to see more in depth videos. Definitely needed this as we always use templates and they are not always 100 depending on the pipe we have.
Intently watching videos such as this and taking notes, would ultimately be more convenient and cost-effective than spending thousands of dollars at and venturing back and forth to a training facility.
Can also draw this on any basic cad software and lay it out using parallel line development and then print it out and laminate and u will have it forever.. saves marking out new every time. Especially handy for smaller diameter piping.
cad software? when i was learning this shit I had to develop it myself, you know, use my brain. Funny how this generation think they are smart because they can use a computer program but have no idea how to do it
Big assumption there bob! of both my age and abilities. Was just offering a solution, not critisim. We learnt to complete both manually developed or using CAD and happlily switch between the two. As I mentioned basic cad software meaning you still need to know the fundamentals.. Its does not do it for you.
