    A Change is Gonna Come blew my mind the first time I heard it. Beatles For Sale always reminds me of the beach. I bought it in 9th grade and downloaded it to my iPod just before a March beach trip. Nice list Randy, good to see you back.

      A Change Is Gonna Come is an amazing and relevant song. That's an interesting take on the Beatles album but there are certain albums and songs that remind me of places, especially if that's where I was when I first heard it.

    Good Afternoon Randy. This was a solid year in films for me. At No 1: Sergio Leone’s ‘A Fistful of Dollars”, with Clint Eastwood, which is closely followed by at No 2: John Frankenheimer’s “The Train”, with Burt Lancaster and Paul Scofield. At No 3: Guy Hamilton’s “Goldfinger”, with Sean Connery, Gert Frobe and Honor Blackman. My favourite film from the Sean Connery Bond era. At No 4: Cy Endfield’s “Zulu”, with Stanley Baker, Jack Hawkins and Michael Caine. True Historical drama centering on the defense of the British Outpost at Rorke’s Drift, in South Africa in 1879. At No 5: Sidney Lumet’s “Fail-Safe”. I thought this was very well done with the story treated seriously. Good screenplay with very good performances from Henry Fonda and Walter Matthau. I did not like the comedy element in Dr. Strangelove, by comparison. At No 6: “Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte”, from Director Robert Aldrich. Bette Davis and Olivia de Havilland starring in a good follow up to “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?” At No 7: Don Siegel’s “The Killers”, with Lee Marvin and Angie Dickinson. My final three films that are worth a look are: Mario Bava’s “Blood and Black Lace”, with Cameron Mitchell. Next is one from the series of Psychological Thrillers produced by Hammer Film Studios. This one being “Nightmare”, Directed by Freddie Francis, starring: Moira Redmond and David Night. My final film is Guy Hamilton's 'Man In The Middle', with Robert Mitchum and Keenan Wynn. On the TV Series, I also enjoyed “The Man From UNCLE” and the spin-off feature films from the series, with Robert Vaughn and David McCallum. Have a great week.

      "A Fistful of Dollars" was under serious consideration and Leone may appear in the future. I haven't seen "The Train" but after looking it up, it sounds like one that I would very much like to see. We will probably have to disagree on "Dr. Strangelove" but I did enjoy both pictures. Don Siegel's "The Killers" was also one that I considered and it was unique to see Ronald Reagan as a heavy. I am also a fan of Robert Aldrich and I have recently bought a couple of Mario Bava's movies but I have not seen "Blood and Black Lace." I have "Man In The Middle" in a Robert Mitchum collection but I haven't watched it yet. I'm glad that we both have an admiration for "The Man From UNCLE." I always enjoy seeing your choices and consider them as recommendations (the ones I haven't seen). You have a great week as well.

    Yes you can always change your mind with any countdown. If you are like me, my favorite lists change every day. Sweet Bobby Blue Bland album, beautiful shape! He's also one of my favorite soul singers, even though I own no vinyl from him since I never see any in that good of shape. I think Bob Dylan has a top spot on any of my top 10 lists for any year he released an album....well, almost. That's also an awesome collection of Sam Cooke tunes. Love that Alfred Hitchcock collection you have there. I don't get DVDs anymore, but once in a while I'll see a boxset that I just have to have, and that is one I'd want. Nice choices once again!

      I bought the Rolling Stone Record Guide back in the day and started buying some of the four and five star albums from the book and that is how I discovered Bobby Bland and I probably got that album around 1980. I think that Dylan will have his share of number one placements for me. Sam Cooke, Jerry Butler and Bobby Bland are three of my favorite soulful voices. It was nice picking up that Hitchcock collection but he still had quite a few classics that were not included. Thanks for watching.

    Nice to see you and the series back in the swing of things. Some of my personal favorite songs from 1964 would be, The Times They Are-a Changing-Bob Dylan, I Get Around-The Beach Boys, Under the Boardwalk-The Drifters, You Really Got Me-The Kinks, She's Not There-The Zombies, House of the Rising Sun-The Animals, I Saw Her Standing There- The Beatles and Don't Worry Baby-The Beach Boys. For TV Series, I have four that stand out for me. Both The Munsters and The Addams Family, along with Bewitched and Gilligan's Island. Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and The Man from U.NC.L.E. are cool too. Also, Jeopardy (the game show) which I still watch nightly to this day. Love that Daniel Boone lunch box, it looks in excellent shape. As far as movies, my top five would be Fail-Safe, Seven Days in May, Dr. Strangelove, Becket and Goldfinger. As a bonus, some of my childhood favorite cartoons debuted in 1964 like Underdog, Jonny Quest and Magilla Gorilla. Fantastic episode Randy. Thanks for the shout-out for the series you're doing with me, Brian and Dog. Look forward to the next one.

      There were a lot of great songs in 1964 and Don't Worry Baby is one of my favorite Beach Boys songs and hard to leave off. House of the Rising Sun would be my favorite song by The Animals. I like your TV series picks and I used to be a big Jeopardy watcher but not for several years. I like your movies selections. I don't have Seven Days In May or Becket and it has been some time since I have seen them. I did watch Jonny Quest and Underdog as a kid but not really Magilla Gorilla. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Great to hear some nice words being spoken about Beatles for Sale. I never understand why this record comes in for so much criticism, as you say the covers are solid and the originals are all great. I didn't know 'No Reply' had originally been intended for someone else. 'Can't Buy Me Love' is a top 5 Beatles song for me, one of the first I ever heard. I have that Jerry Butler record on Charley, picked it up second hand at a market stall last year. I watched Marney again last year. Welcome back Randy.

    • @RandyforRoyals

      I've always had a soft spot for Beatles For Sale. I had read that Lennon offered the song "No Reply" to Tommy Quickly who was also managed by Brian Epstein but that he never ended up recording it. I love how "Can't Buy Me Love" is used in the Hard Day's Night movie. That was my first Jerry Butler record and made me fall in love with his voice. I think that Tippi Hedren's performance in Marnie is her best. Thanks James.

    I have that Bobby Blue Bland record; got it after it was highly recommended on a TH-cam channel. Elvis Costello covered 'I Stand Accused." Wow, that James Bond Criterion Collection looks awesome. Hey man - why are you dissin' Bob Cummings? Love that Bob! Gilligan's Island - hands down my all-time favorite TV show. I liked Dick York better - he got those great expressions on his face. Wow, your lunchbox is in great shape. I had Flintstones. Enjoyed it Randy!

    • @RandyforRoyals
      @RandyforRoyals  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I wonder where you got that Bobby Blue Bland recommendation... Elvis Costello does a cover of a song entitled "I Stand Accused," but it is actually a different song, with a similar sentiment. Bob Cummings was good on Love That Bob but this show was nine years later and I didn't think he quite fit the part. I wish they would release his old show on DVD. With Ginger and Mary Ann, it was hard not to like Gilligan's Island. Dick York was indeed the better Darrin. The Flintstones was one of my favorite cartoons. Cheers.

    I’m still working on my top 10 albums of 1964. Where Did My Love Go, The Times Are a Changing, and A Hard Days Night are in contention. Another Side of Bob Dylan is also being considered. Favorite song would probably have to go to I Feel Fine. Favorite movie is Dr. Strangelove. Favorite show is Gilligans Island.

    • @RandyforRoyals
      @RandyforRoyals  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It looks like we possibly hit on quite a few this time out. "I Feel Fine" is a very good song. Bob Denver from Gilligan's Island was actually my first celebrity autograph.

    Now we are getting into my favorite years. Once again, before watching the video, here are my favorites-
    Album- Meet The Beatles. I prefer this to the UK With The Beatles, mostly because it contains I Want To Hold Your Hand and This Boy.
    Song- Oh Pretty Woman by Roy Orbison
    Movie-Goldfinger, the best Bond movie
    TV Show- The Munsters

    • @RandyforRoyals
      @RandyforRoyals  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Two great tracks on Meet The Beatles. I think that Goldfinger is probably the most important Bond film for sure. Great Roy Orbison track and The Munsters almost made my list.

    Hi Randy!!! and welcome back...... hope you had an awesome time on your vacation/trip. Now backj to business with great choices albums/songs/movies and tv series. I think there can't be no argues that "Goldfinger" is one of the best Bond movies...... btw didn't we all have a crush on Samantha/Serena. Fun fact here in the spanish speaking countries "The Man from U.NC.L.E." was translated "El Agente de C.I.P.O.L.". cheers and be well

    • @RandyforRoyals
      @RandyforRoyals  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think that Goldfinger is at least the most important and iconic Bond film. Elizabeth Montgomery was indeed a beauty and the perfect witch. Thanks for providing the Spanish insight for The Man From U.N.C.L.E. I think that I will watch an episode tonight.

    Welcome back from your hiatus. I loved Dr. Strangelove, but I have never seen Failsafe. I loved Gilligan's Island mostly because I watched it as a kid and I really enjoyed. Your #1 TV show is hard to argue with 🙂

      @RandyforRoyals  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Brian. Fail Safe was very similar to Dr. Strangelove in some ways but from a totally serious perspective. I watched Gilligan's Island as a kid as well but now some of Bob Denver's antics are a little much. I still enjoy watching Man From U.N.C.L.E. episodes.

      My Fair Lady is a great pick and one that I unfortunately do not have on DVD. I have always liked Dionne Warwick's voice and I do have a couple of albums by her but not Anyone Who Had A Heart. Betty Everett is a fine choice and I also liked the duets she did with Jerry Butler. Glad to see The Adams Family too. Thanks for commenting.

    One trend I do not get the point of at all is the reaction videos. Even my wife watches them so I guess I am in the minority as usual. I do not think I have ever seen A Hard Day's Night (I have the album though) but I did finally see The Quiet Man last week. We spent a couple of days in the U.S. and it was free on streaming - but here in Canada on the same service they charge extra for it. Getting into some TV series now that I used to watch as a kid when they were on in syndication. That is cool you still have the lunchbox! Can't remember if I ever had any special ones or not. Got a couple of albums by David McCallum, notable for production by David Axelrod. Cheers!

      It seems that these reaction channels all have a ton of subscribers as well. It's had to explain. I'm glad that you were able to see The Quiet Man and A Hard Day's Night is probably the best movie of its kind. My brothers still have their lunch boxes as well. One had Tarzan and the other had Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I guess that I didn't know that David McCallum also did some singing. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Beatles for sale is in my top 5 Beatles albums i think they have some of the definitive version of the covers they do! and i wanna watch all the bond movies i haven't seen any yet. i also didn't know that Adams family was that old! also do you know any good record stores or your favorites? in the Kansas city area?

      Beatles For Sale does have some great cuts. My favorite Bonds are the Sean Connery ones but I think Daniel Craig was very good as well. The Adams Family is an old series but with the movies it does seem more modern. My favorite record store was in Overland Park and is now closed. I do like Mill Street Records in Westport and FM Music in North Kansas City.

    Hi Randy, sorry about your Royals - my Milwaukee Brewers lost tragically to the NY Mets…. Man, I would have loved that Daniel Boone lunch box as a kid back in the day, I don’t think I’ve seen that show since then…. I’ve never seen “Father Goose” - based on your description, it sounds similar to the plot of “The African Queen”, I would like to see it.. My favorite films of 1964 are, “Hard Days Night”, “Viva Las Vegas”, “Night Of The Iguana”, “Goldfinger”, and the Henry Fonda election year film, “The Best Man”… Favorite songs for me are, “Under The Boardwalk” by The Drifters, “Walk On By”, by Dionne Warwick, “Suspicion”, by Terry Stafford, “The Girl From Ipanema”, by Astrud Gilberto, and The Beatles, “I Want To Hold Your Hand”… Hard to ignore The Beatles and Bob Dylan in 64’! -my favorite albums of that year are, “Another Side Of Bob Dylan”, “The Times They Are A Changin’ “ - the US “Meet The Beatles!”, and the American LP version of “Hard Days Night”, “The Beach Boys Christmas Album”, and “Getz/Gilberto featuring Antonio Jobim”. Enjoyed the video! , take care..

      Yes, I am sad for the loss to the Yankees but we had a much better season that I expected. Not happy seeing the Yankees and Dodgers in the WS. I loved the Daniel Boone show as a kid and it was a coworker some years ago that told me about the Daniel Boone set after she had bought one for her husband. "Father Goose" is a fun film and supposedly Cary Grant said it was pretty close to his real life character. I think that I have seen "The Best Man" but it has been some years ago and I don't remember it well. I am a Drifters fan and have always liked Dionne Warwick's voice. Nice song and album picks. I do have the Getz/Gilberto album and quite like Astrud's vocals on the song you chose. I do have a couple of Beatles US releases but most of mine are the UK ones. Thanks for watching and commenting.
