    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
    Which 8 foods with basically zero carbs / zero sugar still contain beneficial, diabetes-fighting nutrients?
    1) Feta cheese is practically free from carb content, and it is considered an excellent choice for diabetics, as it is a great source of PROTEIN, MONOUNSATURATED FATTY ACIDS, and PROBIOTICS.
    2) Grass-fed beef contain higher levels of beneficial nutrients, and less calories, fat and sugar, than grain-fed beef, and it is also free from carbs and sugar. And it’s an excellent source of protein and OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS, which reduce inflammation, improve insulin sensitivity, and reduce triglycerides.
    3) Black coffee has been found to aid the body in producing insulin more efficiently, thanks to its supply of CAFFEINE, which can increase the production of GLUCOSE TRANSPORTERS in muscle cells. This allows insulin to work more effectively, which works to reduce blood sugar levels.
    4) Eggs are practically free from any carbs, and they contain zero sugar, but they are an excellent source of glucose-stabilizing protein. They are also an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, which have been shown to decrease triglycerides and harmful LDL cholesterol, while also helping improve long-term blood glucose control.
    5) Chicken is a lean protein choice that is also free from carbs and sugar. Eating lean protein reduces the body’s release of GHRELIN - a hormone which makes you feel hungry. At the same time, it increases the body’s release of AMYLIN - a hormone which makes you feel full.
    6) Thanks to its fermentation process, apple cider vinegar contains ACETIC ACID, which improves the body’s ability to metabolize fats and carbohydrates. Studies show that ACV can reduce the rise of blood sugar after eating, decrease insulin resistance, and it helps to reduce total cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
    7) Wild-caught salmon supplies OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS, which helps reduce inflammation while improving insulin sensitivity. It also includes blood sugar-balancing B VITAMINS - like COBALAMIN, NIACIN, PYRIDOXINE, and THIAMINE, plus MAGNESIUM, POTASSIUM, and SELENIUM.
    8) Bone broth contains a vast assortment of antioxidant vitamins and minerals, including CALCIUM, MAGNESIUM, PHOSPHORUS, and POTASSIUM. Bone broth is also rich in COLLAGEN, which may aid joint and muscle health.

      Try to find some hijiki. Just a small handful in soup, chicken or miso. Wakame even better, kind of like spinach without, I assume, the oxalates.
      Recipe: 2 C chicken broth or miso broth. Piece of ginger size of walnut, peeled and sliced. 2 cloves garlic, peeled and smashed. A little cilantro, rinsed, dried and chopped, if you like it. 2-3 scallions (“green onions”), peeled, cut off end. Slice white part and maybe an inch or two of green.
      Boil, add 2-3 pcs wakame broken up. Remove garlic and ginger. Salt to taste. Serve.

    Every food product sold in stores that is packaged must contain a list of 1) ingredients in the food 2) the amount of sugar, protein3) carbohydrates 4)any other pertinent info like caffeine, dairy etc. look for nutritional info before buying a packaged item so you know how it’s going to affect your blood glucose, gluten if your gluten intolerant, caffeine if your sensitive to caffeine and other important info if you are sensitive to any ingredients.

      Yes, Stevia is good. It has no carbs, no sugars, and won't spike your insulin. Acquired taste though. I think it tastes like black licorice.

    Thanks so much. But Apple Cider Vinegar is produced by adding sugar. Is there a brand that does not contain sugar? Please help. Regards

    • @vatsmith8759
      @vatsmith8759 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But surely the added sugar has turned into the vinegar?

    • @danih7577
      @danih7577 ปีที่แล้ว

      Apple cider vinegar is made by adding yeast to crushed apples. This ferments the sugar in the apples into alcohol. The alcohol is then treated with bacteria, which converts it into acetic acid. Because the apples' sugar has been “eaten” by the yeast, apple cider vinegar is virtually carb free.
      Brags (organic) is the only brand that I buy. It contains “the mother “ which is a fiber vehicle for important enzymes giving it it’s cloudy appearance .
      All vegetables and fruits contain “sugars” but it is the fiber vehicle that slows sugar spikes (the way nature intended sugar to be consumed (as a complex carb and not a simple processed carb.
      Diabetics often have high fat , high sugar diets due to cravings because their cells are starved of the energy (complex sugar ) needed to feed the cells and provide energy. The cells starve and constant hunger becomes a vicious cycle .
      The problem with adding a fat to a simple carb diet is that the fat instead of the fiber becomes the vehicle that transport’s energy and food to our cells. The fat will then implant on the arteries. It’s a deadly combination. Nature provides a balanced whole food .
      That doesn’t mean people should start drinking glassfuls of fermentation. One to two tbs is sufficient. Less is more . A good ACV is cloudy in appearance. Brags does not add sugar , the sugar is in the apple which is broken down (fermented) . Drinking glassfuls may erode teeth. I use Brag’s for salads instead of red or white vinegar .

      You cannot ferment without sugar. In kefir, the yeasts eat the milk sugar. In fermented carrots, the carrots provide the sugar. That means there is no vinegar of any kind (cooking varieties) made without some sugar. It is negligible and almost certainly harmless.

      Not if it contains sugar. And even non-sugary sweeteners keep alive the craving for sweet foods. Best to stay away from sweets, even fruit, until your numbers are better. What’s your A1c? Last blood draw in Sep’23, mine was5.7-prediabetic. My next is bound to be better, because 6 weeks ago I cut out all sweets and grains. Try to keep tour carbs (from fruit & veg) 100 or fewer. Some (DrEric Westman (sp?) advises only 20 g of carbs. One small leafy green salad and a non-sweet, non-starchy veg. See keto channels for lists of such veg.

    • @DiabetesSmartsProgram
      @DiabetesSmartsProgram  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nicole, that is an excellent question, but if you watch your portion size, feta cheese can still be a nutritious and healthy addition to your meal. The American Heart Association recommends not consuming over 5% of your daily calories from saturated fat, and not more than 200 mg of saturated fat per day. Feta cheese, on average, contains 4 mg of saturated fat per ounce, making it a healthier cheese option than cheeses like parmesan, provolone, Swiss, blue, American, and cheddar, among others. Feta can be a bit high in sodium, so it's just important to enjoy this cheese in moderation.
