- Sadly the Ford Focus RS is now gone. After years of North America asking for the hot hatch we finally received it in 2016! It's a car full of character, drift modes, and crackles. So what happens when you drive a Focus RS with a big turbo? Well in a nutshell - It drastically changes the power band is a very different feeling car all the way around! That's what I did to my 1.4l Turbo dart. Added a bigger turbo and a bunch of other parts to make it what Dodge should have built. It makes 26-28PSI of boost.

Nick Sweden don’t get the first year models otherwise for the most part it’s a really good car and you shouldn’t have any issues!
I hate that these got discontinued, for that reason. You are spot on. They price gauged these things so badly. Having a fair msrp, but trying to sell it for something else, also they weren’t really willing to move the price considering depreciation. Same with why people don’t buy type Rs. It’s a civic at the end of the day, be fair with your pricing. Mk5 Supra’s are going down the same hole, overpriced and not willing to budge in price.
fun fact the civic type r is the same msrp as the usdm integra type r adjusted for inflation back in the 90s
now consider how much faster the civic is now
the pricing was there for the ford (it was cheaper than a golf r and s3)
people just don't "get" hot hatches because everything needs to have stupid amounts of power and rwd
@@ShaiyanHossain totally right. Perfect combo of being sporty, but also a great grocery getter. Hot hatches are so convenient. Really wanted to get an RS, but the prices they want in my area are absurd. Nearly 60 grand for them. So many other vehicles I could get for that price or lower.

Ford dropped the Focus in the U.S so they would have to import them and that's not gonna happen. The European ST is a nice car which comes with the 2.3 and it's also offered in a auto.. When they make an RS its going to be GolfR/S3 good.

I have over 61k on my 17 Black RS2. Dealership said they could get 33k for it all day long since I have a Service Contract with them and they know all about the car.

For me, the standard rotors on the brakes. On any modified car.
It's a problem with the RS that it contains your hand gunk, a good clean and it looks brand new.
He could have gotten it replaced on warranty too under the 3/36. Same happened with my ST.
@@codydavis787 No, this is sun damage, neglecting sun shade or sweaty hands.. my 2015 ST Steering is like brand new, and I live in the middle east where the temps are hotter and my car is still well kept
I have a 2018 RS in red and love the hell out of that car. Its handling is amazing and it makes great power. I think I got the last one my Ford dealer had? And they didn't bend me over on the price either. Got it for $1,200 UNDER window sticker. I'm keeping this one!

I have the same one as you, and it's sticker price when it first came out was 60k!
I said no to it and walked away.. 6 months later I got a call from the dealer saying that the car was seriously discounted, and if I was interested in coming back in to look at it again??
When I got there they told me that they (Ford) had dropped the price by 16k as they needed this gone by end of (2018) and it was Dec 20th.
I got mine all in (including 3yrs of free maintenance, tire warranty, etc + tax) for 50k!
Usual 2016 & 17 RS's ran 46k before the Maintenance\Tire and Taxes .. so 50k was a no brainier for me!
I live in Toronto, Canada and ALL cars here are 10k more expensive than in the US!!

I’ve wanted an RS since I was like 12. I think it was the first “car guy” car I really fell for, cause you know every kid is just like Lamborghini! Ferrari! Mustang! I really hope I can get my hands on one some day.
Absolutely love my focus rs, it’s a 17 that I picked up used. Put 14k miles on it in a year and every drive puts a smile on my face.
Dang they marked them up that high, might has well get a used GT350 on the same lot.

I love the Focus RS. However...the 3 my local lot had, were north of $60k. They sat for months.
I dont know what the ford dealership owners are thinking maybe they just want them themselves? There are 2 focus rs and a fiesta st sitting in the owners houses next to the dealership where i live and i bet they will be there for next few years until they rust

Got mine a couple years ago and have loved ever since. A 36K car will always have room for improvement, but IMHO that's what enthusiast want. We love moding our cars.

Nothing a little leather cleaner can't fix. I used to work in valet, you tend to see some greasy steering wheels lol. Straight to hand washing

Love everything about my 2017 focus RS. The only problem I have is trying to keep it undercover. It's very eye catching on the street.

If/when it blows the st 2.0 block is much stronger than the 2.3. So 2.0 block with 2.3 internals and head and youve got a decent engine

I love my RS, I got mine for a steal from a used car dealership! Fully optioned 2017 Nitrous Blue, had 3k in mods, with 13k miles for $36k
Did the same with my ST! 2017 with 20k at $19k ST3 full optioned with the carbon package
Picked up my 15' ST3 with premium wheels and 5005miles in 2018 for 18,900. Now at 34k miles.
got mine stocked 2017 shadow black w/167 miles when i purchased it for 32K. No joke.

I worked at ford and told the sales manager their charging too much to sell a car ment to compete with the golf R and STI. He made a very poor attempt at defending the up charge. All I could think of was Mr.Krabs
Dealers have killed more great cars by gouging than I care to count, worse yet they have snatched out of the hands of the common man the chance to even dream of owning an aspirational enthusiast car. As far as I am concerned most dealerships can die in a fire.

I have an evo x now I just drove an RS yesterday and definitely liked it a lot. If it wasn’t so hard to make big power on these I would probably consider it. But doesn’t make sense to go from a 4b11t that can hold crazy power with stock block to a 2.3l ecoboost that can barely make 400whp with a ton of money dumped into it lol I love the look and interior on these things tho and they handle amazing!
I think the RS is a car you enjoy in stages but yeah at the end of the day it’ll cost quite a bit but from what I’ve drove I think it’s 100% worth it. I’ve been looking for one for a while but none are the right color or spec.
EVO X is no joke, incredible cars. Wish they were still continued. The RS is a good car but, yea, it's expensive to upgrade unlike the mighty Evo x.
I was able to get my 2017 RS at MSRP, bought it from a small dealer in Eastern Washington. Mine was recalled for the head gasket, which was totally no big deal. I've had zero problems with the car. Too bad that debacle gave the car such a bad name. Love that car. It'd be fun to see how the car drives with that big turbo.
2022 and this is still an amazing car. we're so lucky ford built the RS. amazing platform
I see why these fucking things are gone in the US. Overhyped and they really thought middle-class America could afford these things at 60k. 'Eff dealerships. Around 30k these things would've sold like hotcakes. I mean look at all the VA Subaru WRXs and STi's. They're great value, and at middle-class America's price range. It's too bad Ford's takeaway from the lack of sales was that "nobody wanted to buy them." When it's because they jacked up the price and COULDN'T buy them...
Of course much love to Ford and Ford engineering in relation to the focus RS in the development team behind it. I have a 2016 stealth gray with some newer Michelin performance summer tires on it with a few BoulTawns if you will list is a little long to say besides a wastegate actuator and what not. But all in all as far as passion in spirit of driving I wouldn’t have it any other way I love this car it’s very special kind of like the Shelby GT 350 it’s one of kind.... ❤️❤️❤️❤️
The thing that killed me about the Type R was the electronic parking brake and the infotainment system interface. Worst parts of that car. LOVE my RS though :)
Just picked up an '17 RS! Tons of upgrades and lots of carbon. I'm loving it so far. Obviously faster than my '14 stage 3 Cobb tuned Fiesta ST and I haven't even played with the different modes yet.
Jumped my Mazdaspeed 3 one time on accident, was definitely fun😂

Im so happy I own a Focus RS :). Shes got 141k miles in it and still puts a smile on my day since the day I picked it up! :D.

It would be the Precision NX2. Specially made for the RS and has a turbosmart wastegate actuator that goes with it

Gotta blame the dealers for the poor sales of these things. I had one sit at my local dealership for 2 YEARS and it's sticker was 40k marked up to 55k. I offered 36k all in. They said they'd take $500 off the sticker. I walked out

Owned mine new since 2016 for MSRP, just before they skyrocketed the price. Awesome car, still gives me smiles. I live Canada, so it's perfect for winter. For me, I wanted something that I could drive year round that was exciting. Tried an STI and Golf R. This is miles more interesting than the Golf and the STI was great but the RS has so much much more low end for daily driving.
This man only completely left out the Golf R for AWD hatches man lol.
I know right. As expected! The GTI/R is never told of in videos like this, because they’re so much “quieter” of a car. But yet, the MK7/7.5 GTI/R, with the same mods, will completely obliterate a Focus RS, CTR, or Speed3.

The gouging and markup on this and the CTR was horrible, still is for the civic
Dealerships are horrible. Its what killed the GTO 6.0. They always want a mark up for "Special" cars

Every second when I drive it. Far from stock now but honestly unless you want to build the bottom end just stick with the stock turbo.

Love the ST and RS great cars. I think Ford made a big mistake in only selling them in other markets now. I think they got rid of them because of the transmission issues on the standard Focus and Fiesta autos. Keep up the great videos!

They stopped production in September of 2018.
Only 50 Heritage Editions and 2 RS50’s were made after than for the U.K. only.

Mountune also does a m520 kit that I would be more interested in if I was to go that $$$ route! (Shmee has it on his RS)
You don’t need a big turbo to make 400 it’s just not necessary unless you forge the engine and want big power
I just installed the Mountune B7 package on my friend's RS. Next Winter, it gets the Mountune big turbo.

This RS has been lowered and those are not standard tires that come with this car!
There are also other mods on this car that were not mentioned..

BLAZiNDREW still used generic already engineered ford parts used in other vehicles all ready other then the suspension diff/sport stuff

Yeah, I remember looking at some RS1s in 2017. Msrp was 33.5, and it was 55k on the lot.
I drove 4 hours for an "MSRP" car, which ended up having 10k in the dealer added "accessories." I gave up on them afterwards.
Open-deck engine head designs are not generally the way to go for strength. That's why some guys feel the 2.0 EB is a better place to start for stupid power instead of the 2.3 EB.
100%. But you can sleeve them or put Cylinder Support Systems (CSS) in them. I for one, dont plan on going higher that 380HP. Im gonna focus on Driver MOD and seat time to be faster.

You might just run a stroker crank in the 2.0L instead.
Anyway, that's for the 500-600 hp club.
@@exothermal.sprocket Yea, maybe down the road. I have Esslinger and Mountune 40minutes away from my house here in California. I hear they are actually using the Fusion Block for builds also now. Duratec I believe. But since it’s my daily, I don’t want to mess with E30 or any other types of fuel. I want to just tune it to 91 pump gas and make it easy until it’s not my daily and it’s only used for track and car meets.

Yeah, the modern Ecoboost branded 2.0L is based somewhat on the 2.0 Ti-VCT Duratec, which is based somewhat on a Mazda design back when Ford owned a percentage of Mazda and borrowed products and designs. It's why the Mazdaspeed3 2.3L engine and modern Ecoboost engines are quite similar.

I love his choice of wheel and tire size. Fits the car so well. Unlike a stock type-r with 20’s!! On a 30 series sidewall 🤭
Working at a Honda dealership and with Honda a few months ago pushing incredible lease deals on the type-r. I see a lot of the ‘wrong’ kinda owners for a vehicle like that that end up bending or cracking wheels. Not to mention obliterating the carbon front splitter. And treating it as a base model civic with fast food bags on the floor sticky spill residue everywhere. The beautiful recaros turned brown/black. Just sad to see what happened and is happening to cars like the type r and rs/ ST

I love my focus RS, I just have a few bolt ones but I think for what the car is it’s great. It’s not the fastest but it gets the job done!
yeah, i've got a '16 ST2, couple bolts on and its not a hp monster, but taking it through the canyons and daily driving it are still such a joy to do every day.
Planning on getting a Focus ST in about a year or so. Thinking about taking a Higher payment and getting a Focus RS instead. 🤔

CHADMUSKA64 i’m in the st because I got it for such an awesome deal, so depending on your funds and the condition of the car, you won’t be disappointed if you end up in an st, but if you can squeeze an rs go for it!
I miss my ST , 380 hp 420 tq.... it was very very fun. But traded it for my used tundra truck. And then my wife..... my Wife convinced me to buy a 06 mustang s281 supercharged. It being my first ever v8 muscle car..... my goodness do I love American muscle now.

Love the enthusiasm but you know, the single most interesting thing when discussing tunes and big turbos is the boost gauge, and you managed to make 9 minutes of video without showing a second of it.

@@BobThe9534 they sold well, even with markup, all things considered. 2017 sales slowed with reports of an upcoming "limited edition" for 2018, and potential (eventually confirmed) headgasket issue on earlier builds. There was also the issue of a late roll out were (in North America) the 2016 MY didn't ship until rather late in the year, versus late the year before the model year, or very early the year of. By the time most of the 2016s were making it over from Germany 2017s production was beginning. Also, Ford really screwed up with pre-orders. Those that ordered early, and would likely be some of the brands most avid promoters, didn't necessarily get their RSs first, or in order. That let a lot of wind out of the sails, of sales. Still, Ford sold more than they targeted, and didn't resort to needing to incentivize sales with any sort of rebates or special interest rates. Also, it has been speculated that in North America (and particularly the United States) Ford lost money on every RS sold, even before resolving the headgasket issue.
Stage 3 makes over 400hp too

Got mine used in 2019 for 30k. It had 22k miles on it then. It is the summer of 2024 now, and it has 41k miles on it. Fantastic car
always loved the RS, but you could get a used z06, shelby, or even older zr1 for the same amount invested in this car
It depends where you living. I'm surrounded by twisty roads and cannot dream a better car for the price!
@@Guillaume0688 I live in the Georgia mountains and love curvy roads. There is no way a focus has a chance at keeping up with a corvette in the twistys, thats exactly why I love corvettes. I think the RS is a cool project but the price is just awful

2016 RS here and sooo happy I'm an owner. One of the first round on US shores too, West at least. 39k miles on it 5 years later. Can't wait to drive this thing into the future; getting a new set of PSS on it this week. Merry Christmas all!

Ford really should’ve put their foot far up dealerships asses, there was no way that car should’ve been 60 grand, I think they were mainly responsible for fucking up Ford sales. Ford might as well have done direct sales because these dealership mark ups are fucking ridiculous!! I’m sure there’s a way around it if you’re a savvy buyer but fuck dude, we shouldn’t have to do that!

I got a 13 veloster turbo and i am planning on doing a big turbo swap whenever I eventually blow my stock turbo, hopin to end up pushing about 400-500 hp if a focus rs can do it I believe my lil veloster can easily 👌🏼
