No. It's because english and french have a lot of similar words. Both of those languages have influenced each others for milennia. Obviously, his way of expressing things helps, but it's just pure 'languages from the same root' magic out there.

English and French are not of the same root at all; the exerted mutual influence is not nearly as relevant as you make it to be; and most people native to the English language have ATROCIOUS accents in French. Eddie is TALENTED - that's why his accent is that good.
I love how he used his gestures and physicality to to communicate that he was repeating a joke from his "puberty" bit, only in French, so that even non-French speakers can follow along. Such a clever way to tell stand-up.
Funny story, our male soical studies teacher in high school Thomas (in Sweden we use the teachers first name) a wonderful guy taught us how to walk in heels! I don't think he was a transvestite, he used to like teach us little life lessons apart from all the normal stuff! He said he just could't stand women stomping around in heels! Thanks Thomas! 😂👍
I'm French and I think this video is really funny... this guy is quite good to imitate some French expressions, and he doesn't deal with clichés that some others artists usually deal with.

Last time I even used it was an elder somalian in Alaska who's English speaking was about as bad as my French speaking. So I spoke English and he spoke French and we got by just fine. The only other time I use it is like reading the backs of shampoo bottles lol

She is known as the queen of humour in french. That's too bad that they don't include english subtitles in french stand up comedy, cause believe me, if you would understand her comedy, you would laugh your head off! ^^ Florence Foresti is also GREAT, Les robins des bois (even tho their humour is very poo/pee but hey, they make me laugh), Les Nuls (I can easily compare them to French and Saunders, as they did a LOT of excellent parody with many celebrities)... But unfortunately, I think that you'll be so far the only one interested in this :/ It's also very hard to translate it correctly, especially because of the play of words which couldn't make any sens once translated... Languages can be such a barrier sometimes :( And I know that french language can be VERY hard for you to learn... As I always said, I'm glad to be french for this reason : I don't have to learn it :P And obviously, you're more than welcome ;)

I went to a zoo and there I heard a french family say "le sange!". So of course I had to come back and re-watch this. The few words in french that I do know I know them from Eddie.
Duolingo, Brainscape, France 24. Spend several hours a week 15+ What he is saying is actually pretty simple. And its been about 2.5 years actually. But you will be surprised how much you can learn in 2-3 months if you are honest about the work you put in.

I am moving to France soon and have been trying to learn it as much as I can, I didn't think I was making much progress but I watched this and laughed out loud at some of the French parts, which means I fully understood them, being spoken at a fast rate, enough to make me laugh out loud! I'm very pleased with myself now 😂
When I worked in a ski resort we used Eddie's line to have fun with the ski lift operators who were French. We'd arrive at the lift with our guests and we'd say. 'Ou est le singe?' On cue, they would reply with 'Le singe est dans L'arbre'. We'd get on the chair lift and off we'd go. As our guests spoke French too they were bemused, not knowing that the ski lift guys were in on the joke. :)
Well, I must say I got an amazing B with an after school detention which was a double bonus to be fair. I got a lecture from Madame Lange herself on how not to use inappropriate language during an exam. Got a good laugh out of her though which was worth it!
The problem with this clip is that he uses sections of his act that happened during the previous 2 hours, so if you just show this video to somebody because it's "f---ing funny," they won't get a sizable chunk of the jokes. On the other hand, the great thing about this clip is that if you watched the whole show, you don't even need to know french to get all those jokes, because he's just that good at delivering his act.
I was first introduced to this via my French teacher in high school when she let our whole class watch this (God bless you Miss Swindell!) and loved it ever since
I first saw Eddie do the skit on 'Le singe est dans l'arbre' many years ago. I went to work next day raving about it, but no one else has seen it. Eddie then went on a self imposed ban on British TV for years, before he started making small appearances. I still know his Definite Article show word for word.

+Matt Silverstein there are others in Canada who speak French. I'm from Ontario, and there are a lot of people here who soeak french, most people from New Brunswick are Acadian and speak a different dialect of french. Not just the Québecois who speak french. You're pretty ignorant also. I know a lot of people in Québec who are the nicest people I have ever met. There are rude people ever where it's not fair to paint all with the same brush.

The reason they and so many Canadians speak french is because when the british took over they allowed them to keep their language and religion and over time they were able to keep their culture. As for "Québecois" language because they were cut off from france their language didn't evolve the same way and they use a very old style of french, but Québecois slang is mostly spoke to other Québeckers. Jeremiah Nihilo It has been observed to be quite a different dialect/accent than French in France. It's actually closer to colonial French in the way that American English is closer to colonial British English!
Please don't be afraid of speaking French. We are not all arrogant and rude. In France, we suck at languages and this is why we are not always helpful. Some feel stupid if they don't understand your question. It's not against you. It's our pride talking. We are always happy to help when we are able to. I learn languages, Russian in particular. It's not always easy to speak to Russians too, but it's all about getting to know a different culture, right? And, no worries, we love your accent! :D

Duolingo, Brainscape, France 24. Spend several hours a week 15+ What he is saying is actually pretty simple. And its been about 2.5 years actually. But you will be surprised how much you can learn in 2-3 months if you are honest about the work you put in.
Finally, I now know enough French to understand what the hell he was going on about all those years ago, when I first watched this.

I am moving to France soon and have been trying to learn it as much as I can, I didn't think I was making much progress but I watched this and laughed out loud at some of the French parts, which means I fully understood them, being spoken at a fast rate, enough to make me laugh out loud! I'm very pleased with myself now 😂

When I worked in a ski resort we used Eddie's line to have fun with the ski lift operators who were French. We'd arrive at the lift with our guests and we'd say. 'Ou est le singe?' On cue, they would reply with 'Le singe est dans L'arbre'. We'd get on the chair lift and off we'd go. As our guests spoke French too they were bemused, not knowing that the ski lift guys were in on the joke. :)
I used this in my French Exam
Well, I must say I got an amazing B with an after school detention which was a double bonus to be fair. I got a lecture from Madame Lange herself on how not to use inappropriate language during an exam. Got a good laugh out of her though which was worth it!

The problem with this clip is that he uses sections of his act that happened during the previous 2 hours, so if you just show this video to somebody because it's "f---ing funny," they won't get a sizable chunk of the jokes.
On the other hand, the great thing about this clip is that if you watched the whole show, you don't even need to know french to get all those jokes, because he's just that good at delivering his act.
I will fit one of these lines into the speaking portion of my French exam.

I first saw Eddie do the skit on 'Le singe est dans l'arbre' many years ago. I went to work next day raving about it, but no one else has seen it. Eddie then went on a self imposed ban on British TV for years, before he started making small appearances. I still know his Definite Article show word for word.

bit of a shame to assume he's just winging it at times, when he's clearly very proficient in French. Not to mention the basic fact that most (if not all) comedians know their routine by heart, so there's really no "he just turns his mistake into a joke" at ALL.

+Matt Silverstein there are others in Canada who speak French. I'm from Ontario, and there are a lot of people here who soeak french, most people from New Brunswick are Acadian and speak a different dialect of french. Not just the Québecois who speak french. You're pretty ignorant also. I know a lot of people in Québec who are the nicest people I have ever met. There are rude people ever where it's not fair to paint all with the same brush.
+Matt Silverstein the younger generations of Québecois(e) want to learn english and there is less politcal BS, but to be fair the French colonized Canada first. The reason they and so many Canadians speak french is because when the british took over they allowed them to keep their language and religion and over time they were able to keep their culture. I respect that. As for "Québecois" language because they were cut off from france their language didn't evolve the same way and they use a very old style of french, but Québecois slang is mostly spoke to other Québeckers. They can speak formal french also. Our english isn't proper english with all the slag we use. A person learning english may go wtf does "whats saying?" Mean or sup

Jeremiah Nihilo It has been observed to be quite a different dialect/accent than French in France. It's actually closer to colonial French in the way that American English is closer to colonial British English!

Please don't be afraid of speaking French. We are not all arrogant and rude. In France, we suck at languages and this is why we are not always helpful. Some feel stupid if they don't understand your question. It's not against you. It's our pride talking. We are always happy to help when we are able to. I learn languages, Russian in particular. It's not always easy to speak to Russians too, but it's all about getting to know a different culture, right? And, no worries, we love your accent! :D

The original bit was in English, and I forget how the president of Burundi fits into the whole thing, but he's counting on people recognizing little by little that he's just translating the nonsense from earlier in the evening.

Same is true of French Canadians. My sister was in Quebec and asked a man if he could tell her the way to the bus station. In impeccable English, he replied, "Do you speak French?" She said no. To which he replied, "Then no, I couldn't, could I?" and walked off.
