I think Eddie Izzard is one of the funniest comedians ever. He can reference history and talk about interesting things, instead of the typical routine and subject matter that a lot of comedians rely on. Eddie is brilliant at setting up these scenarios, complete with banter between multiple characters, combined with the facial expressions, and the body language..and the drag is so ridiculous - but it all works in concert to create a fantastic comic experience. Love him!~
Anyone else feel a great deal of affection for, and comfort in the comedy of Eddie Izzard? For me, there's a few factors that I delight in - his brilliant use and abuse of language and words, the richly imaginative almost dream-like comedic imagery and the intelligence (and respect for intelligence).
Absolutely. I saw this when it first came out when I was growing up in San Francisco, it felt like a special designed and crafted for me personally. I often quote it to a very confused group of friends.
It probably was the best line. But let's be honest it wasn't the cleverest standup we've heard. Not really on a par with Al Murray if you want plenty of history and facts in you comedy.
He is right on the money about the Hallelujah bit. I go to Christian mass every Sunday and sometimes I have to stop myself from laughing at how "joyous" we sound lol
Eddie's tangents are brilliant I knew someone who went to the same show twice and although the basic subjects were there she said both shows were so different
Thank you for posting all the Dressed to Kill excerpts. This is one of my favorite stand up routines of all time. It made me a total Izzard fan. It's almost a shame that the act was so full of call backs that one looses a lot by not seeing it from beginning to end.
As a ex Catholic the observation about church of England sermons is spot on 😆 the first church of England service I ever attended (for a christening) felt more like a women's institute meeting rather than church . The complete lack of verses about fire and brimstone and turning wine into blood was most disappointing 😂
Never been a Christian but went to a " proddy" school where no one was interested. Religion is basically dead, life for most people in UK is just a struggle for survival a lot of poverty.
I know I'm years late to this comment(I've rewatched this many times over the years) in guessing he would do this anyway as a transvestite, but there's a reason stage performers wear makeup. It extenuates facial expression and only works in his favor as he makes some of his jokes work thru expression alone! Truly one of the greats!
Oh god the singing. That brings back bad memories. I've just escaped from having to go to church. Not only are the songs so dreary or benign, when you don't believe in any of it anyway it sort of takes the shine of things.
He doesn't identify as straight. He identifies himself as a woman who likes women. So (s)he is kind of a trans lesbian, which is probably not the correct term and the LGBT+ community might strike me dead for expressing myself poorly, but you know what I mean. 😅
@@TheMILFproject Well, a trans woman would technically be a lesbian if she were only into women, so you're not wrong. Eddie is kind of vague in describing himself and just kind of goes with it. Last I knew, he considered himself transgender, but doesn't care about pronouns.
@@madamewoselle LOL... this is what we're calling "learning." Deliberately making everything extra confusing for attention and endless attempts at societal disruption. No one is bothered. He's just a cross dresser, it's not complicated. Also it's interesting it's supposed to be a big deal when you couldn't get on MTV for a decade or two without the same amount of make up PLUS a woman's gigantic over the top hair and they were all womanizers. Standard narcissism of any flavor makes the world go round.
This deserves a bump. With Christmas only a week away, only Eddie can make us laugh at ourselves as we rush around like idiots. Merry Christmas, and thanks Eddie.
I'm part of the Church of England and I find this hilarious, it is pretty much true! I feel like I should be offended but I'm really not... he has a way of ridiculing it but not ridiculing it. That probably doesn't make sense, but there's just something about the way he tells jokes that manages to be funny and yet not offensive. To me, anyway.
BSEmadcow How can anyone? I've happened to be brought up Anglican and that is the medium through which I serve and have a relationship with God. If I were brought up Catholic, Evangelical or even Jewish or Muslim then that would just be the way I was taught to worship my God. I wouldn't have any less of a relationship with God, it's just as chance would have it; I'm Anglican. I hope that makes sense and I hope it answers your question haha, I'm reading it back and I'm not sure if it does or not.
It just gets funnier the more I watch this clip. Many thanks for posting it. I would really like to see the piece about posing for the Last Supper too!!
THANK YOU! I've always wondered why they can sing a celebratory word like "Alleluia" and make you want to eat a Glock. It's a HAPPY WORD for pete's sake.
Eddie’s history of the world was the most brilliant, funny, satirical spot on history lesson I’d ever seen. He skewers the royal family regularly so I’m sure he’ll never be knighted🙄
I've heard it dozens of times but Eddie stopping mid sentence as the Pope to say "Ciao" never fails to make me belly laugh
Absolutely the same here. Along with "joooyyyfuuully, we, larrrkk abouuttt".
Same here!
I don't get the Ciao bit as being amusing in itself personally.
YEEES! I just looked this up to watch it (again) for that exact reason!!
I'd heard of Mr izzard but never watched him, glad l have now, funny as hell.
"Have you been reading the gospel according to Saint Bastard?" is an insult I will be adding to my daily vocabulary.
Thank you, Eddie Izzard!
Good comedy is rare.
Good stand up comedy that's fresh and funny after 20 years, is beyond rare.
Eddie Izzard is one in a billion.

Adam Hutchins that and he rocks heels like a boss xD

As an American, I've learned the British dialect from Eddie. Eddie is your greatest ambassador.
Look for Stewart Lee. Both are highly intelligent British comedians.
If youre studying British dialect through stand up comedy i highly suggest Micky Flanagan, or Jethro.... 😁
