  • Watch me as I troubleshoot a drive issue on this 2004 Yamaha YZ450F (and almost get it right). The clutch cable gets replaced because it was in bad shape. The initial problem didn't get resolved but I am one step closer.
    Thanks for watching.

    To get into going with out a clutch,put bike in neutral, run as fast as you can or go down a hill and slam it into 1st give it a little throttle and you are rolling 🤙

    Same thing happened to me on my 4 wheeled version of that, I can confirm it's not easy to notice sometimes. Turns out the previous owner installed the cable backwards and it was rubbing against the handle -_-

    Hey thanks for taking the time to post, great vid (only one like it). I am having the same issue but my cable is fine......I have been asking around and cant seem to get an iron-clad fix. I am really interested as to how you got on! what was the fix muddy?

      Nick Morrow Hi Nick, it turns out the clutch basket was grooved, and needed to be replaced. Yamaha was notorious for this issue.

    Did the clutch basket fix this problem ?

    Hi there , I know ilthis is a bit old that video ... but I still hope . I have a WR450F 04 , it is leaking oil from where that clutch part is . Have any clue how I can change that ?

    I understand this is an older video but am hoping to get a response. I have an 06 yz450f that makes the same motor noise as this. I read that is normal for these motors to “tick”. Any problems with this bike?

    • @muddyfences5559
      @muddyfences5559  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I personally think it is normal for this bike. I have a 2004 CRF450R and it rattles like that as well. My guess is that the bigger the piston on the 4 stroke bike, the more pronounced the rattle is. You should hear my old TT600. Oh lord does that thing thump.

    • @goatsticks101
      @goatsticks101 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      a 'hot start' button, it is a cable that allows more air to flow into the engine since it is already hot and ready. On my '01 yz426f the bike starts with one kick while pushing down the hot start, and will not start without it.

      When you replaced the clutch cable did it engage the clutch or was it a clutch basket issue

    Probably could have used some wheel bearing grease instead of cable lube, I would think, or at least that is what I would do instead of running it dry.

    Could a bad clutch cause for a hard clutch lever pull?

    • @muddyfences5559
      @muddyfences5559  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely. Remove the cable at the case and see if the cable moves freely. If not, it's in the clutch. Could be stuck plates or something else.

      @@muddyfences5559 alright I removed the cable from the engine just like you said and sure enough the cable and perch move easily and smooth so I guess i need to replace my clutch basket? It's got 155 hours on the bike and it's a 2017 I thought it'd last longer than that.
