Also adjust the accelerator pump spray to not hit the carb slide. That is what the screw is for. It’s called accelerator pump timing. It needs set to squirt and just miss the slide when opening. If it is late or hits it. It will affect performance. TH-cam video from Rocky Mountain atv on it
A huge tip to fix chain slap on Yamaha, put a few strips of door sealer from home depot under the rubber chain guide on top and bottom, it helps so much
I have a 2004 wr450f and I am currently having the issues you were talking about in the video extreme popping on deceleration, overheating issues etc. I am 100% sure that my motorcycle is suffering from the same issues you described here. Thank you so much for this video
It's the little things that make a difference. Like checking clearances before assembly. With this experience you should be able to tackle any engine! Thanks so much!
Just a small tip for ya next time you do a oil change. After draining the old oil leave all the caps off and pour a bit of fresh oil in and let it drain, this way it will help flush out all the dirty oil just like you did with the coolant.
You know, I've had identical decel popping since I had my bike some almost 3yrs now, through a professionally complete top end rebuild, cleaned and jetted carb, pretty much everything I could personally throw at it, and still she pops and is hard starting etc.... But, I'm going to have to check the valve clearance myself as I'm almost certain after watching this series that's what I have going on with my 07'. Man I'll be glad when if I can get this thing running close to as good as yours does. Congrats btw, you came into this not really knowing much about this bike, and you owned it
Had that problem on my kx450f, it’s probably caused by a worn carb body which allows the slide to move back and forth which causes air to leak past the slide. I fixed mine by gluing shims to the slide to take up the slack and it completely fixed the problem. Check for back/forth movement in the slide, if you have a noticeable amount it’ll probably cause leaking. Look for up and down movement as well which is caused by a worn slide. I have a video on my channel showing the up and down movement, didn’t get one of the back and forth movement though.
looks like you have it on point now. sweet! I dig the way the front will leave the ground with such ease. Sounds like you are launching in second gear sometimes. All the hard work is paying off. Cheers from Louisiana.
Since it wasn't getting the extra fuel from the accelerator pump it was lean popping. You fixed your popping issue when you rebuilt the accelerator pump
After finishing any bike series you should go for a four wheeler. Specifically a 1986 Honda Trx200SX. They never die, but the parts are sort of hard to get and you have to custom order them. Would make a great series if you found one in bad shape, and bring it to completely working any everything.
hmm my ltz400 does that pop sound. the front pipe of my fmf has seen lot better days i have a brand new one i was going to get fit on next MOT for uk road driving. looks like you saved me £40 of work shop time just knowing that as i was going to pay for one hour in the shop to look in to it. thxz man
the theme music portions started small then graduated into the full song, that I was for some reason, looking forward to hearing! Goldguy, your pretty clever , aint cha? This video was fregn awesome, from start to end!
Normally popping means its too lean too much air a lean condition would also run hot . And of course valve clearances aswell as coils and sparkplugs can cause issues. You know when its too rich normally as it bogs down when you rev it and fouls up plugs.
I have an 04 i bought last month and i have similar popping now and it sounds like its coming from up at the valves but theres no signs of carbon or soot emitting out from anywhere on the engine... also i have the backfiring while decelerating which i noticed immediately ever since i bought it.. i wish i could see a video on your valve adjustment fix because i think thats gonna be the ticket to get my bike running as smooth as yours too..? Also i generally try to go fast enough to keep it cool but 1 time i did boil out some coolant when i rode very slowly uphill for about 15 mins with my girlfriend on the back.. these kick start only bikes without batteries have no radiator fans so you need to be moving fast or the radiator gets no airflow and so it just otherwise heats up like crazy if you go too slow for too long..
Heres a tip I've learned on cleaning and rebuilding carbs. Buy a ultrasonic cleaner that has heating and then use your choice of cleaning chemical. I used Purple power which worked ok but next time I'm using real carb cleaning chemicals. Like chem-dip. Just because I know its carb body/parts safe and can probably do a better job. Plus, that shit eats old gaskets away.
6th, yes! Switchback is my local area track, since then I've moved but a lot of memories about that track. Please watch your bolt torques, every time you torque a bolt I cringe, alloys do not take much to strip out.
Yep why you where backfiring valves where out. Should run like a top now. You think it had power before. And if you hear sound in the radiator you have air in the system. Run it without the cap to bleed all the air out top off as needed. Also motion pro sells a chain slack tool for like 20.
Just asking, why didn't you burp the radiator ? You know, run the bike at approx 3000 RPM's with the radiator cap off for around 5 minutes until the engine gets to operating temp, then idle another 5 minutes then put the cap on, then shut it off. You might need a new cap too. Lastly check your valves.
There needs to be s washer. A spring and an oring on the mixture screw tip that threads up through the float bowl. Often they either get lost. Or stuck in carb. Yours had none. It will run way lean without
I have a feeling that you're popping issues are because you're still running too lean, your main jets are still a bit too small, your idle jets I think are ok but if you want you could just bumped them up a size or two, I would up your main jet a little bit also, I think that should fix your popping issue, or you need to re-adjust your air fuel mixture ratio, but actually that diaphragm on that accelerator pump is so shot that I'm pretty sure that will definitely fix your popping issues but if it doesn't then go to your Jets
Please remove the pipe clamp. It's an expansion joint, it's suppose to be there. You'll crack a weld. The header and the muffler heat up at a different rate.
That chain is now to tight .. they call for 2.5 or 3 inches of slack at the back of the chain slider on top of the swing arm.. Good rule of thumb Is 3 fingers
my friends get on me when i do total rig shit like that exhaust clamp."Why dont you just get one for 5 dollars??" CAUSE I DONT WANNA WAIT A WEEK FOR IT TO COME IN THE MAIL
how many man hours you put in to the full rebuild of the bike now? plus how much money has it saved you over all doing it ye self ? i not had to time to watch all of the vids as of work. but i remb you getting it cheap as it needed a lot of work its nice to see you done it all. by ye self gj man keep up the good work. feck maybe i should put the ltz400 in just to let the shop look in the hour i pay for they can fit the front pipe and run it up down the road maybe a easy fix. bloody bikes they cost me money all the time my little 49 cc moped 4t never needs work arrrr
Hell yes man my yz 250f is going strong still even after having a ass hole pour water down my hot exhaust If you want to see a video I have a vid on my channel!:)
@@dirtygarageguy I said I think I'm not a engine expert, just aftermarket cams usually lift your valves higher so I figured if he had one lifting high and one lifting like stock he will always have a motor that's trying to work out to different cams I'dk lol if your an expert explain to me brotha
Race bikes often are set tight and need adjusted pretty much every race. These high performance motors have a very low service life. It’s not a old Xr Honda
Just don't over rev it. It can be checked fairly easy, line up timing marks on the bottom end at top dead center that's the T mark on the mag to the pointer on the case. And then check timing marks on top end on cam gears with the timing marks on cylinder head. If both top and bottom marks don't lineup at the same time something is wrong. And while the top cover is off check the valve clearances too. Really simple process. Or have a shop do it for you, will save a lot of expense in the future.
That’s the best feeling ever when you get your bike right in spec!
It might be overheating from valves beeing too tight thats why you had boiling coolant
Man, clapped !

cool never knew that.
Leave the cap off when you change water and start bike so you can see it flowing and add if needed
Anyone see the mouse at around @19:38 outside lol
good eye
Hahaha I didn't think anywould would catch that. It was a chipmunk lol, they are always running around my workshop
I haven’t a clue, never seen a chipmunk I’m from the uk so I just assumed it was a mouse or something haha

Very knowledgeable at such a young age. You’re going to be great at what you’re doing in the years to come. Wish you the best of luck.

Increase your main jet size and it will not do that anymore.

Your missing a motor mount bolt on the clutch side!
And the bottem engine bolt is missing to

better use a high pressure radiator cap with temperature gauge. especially going slow on trails you should monitor the temp.
WIll be looking forward to seeing you and your new bike at the track !
The other drain bolt is on the otherside that little 8mm is just an oil level check bolt. Change that oil more often that's way to dirty

I like that intro, 100% better.
Easiest chain tensioning system has got to be the KLX / RMZ 400. It makes it really easy to ensure both sides are equall
the theme music portions started small then graduated into the full song, that I was for some reason, looking forward to hearing! Goldguy, your pretty clever , aint cha? This video was fregn awesome, from start to end!
Hey GoldGuy, You are missing a motor mount bolt @8:30, May want to get a bolt in there! Keep up the good work!
You are right! I guess I didn't fix all the problems after all 😅. I've been saving that for my next trip to the hardware store. Thanks for watching!😁👍
Somewhere around 3 fingers between the chain and where the rearward bold is on the slider on top of the swing arm is pretty close to idea slack

Good that you sorted all the issues.

It’s not just the accelerator pump because I rebuilt mine and it would still do that until I tweaked the carb.

Definitely take it to the track. Or the trails. That would be an awesome video
Make a video about how much money you have spent on it to get it running. Sick build man. She's a keeper. She rips
There needs to be s washer. A spring and an oring on the mixture screw tip that threads up through the float bowl. Often they either get lost. Or stuck in carb. Yours had none. It will run way lean without
The exhaust sound was totally different after fixing... Thumps up
Yeah hit the track! But make sure your suspension is set up properly first! Sag, etc.
The popping is the jetting stick 1 size larger jets in and 100% fixed

What size jets did you end up using I've got an 07 yz450f and I'm gunna put one of those accelerator rebuild kits in cheers mate 👍
You have to bleed the coolant system not just chuck some in that’s why it’s probs overheating
Sounds good and looks good congratulations young man you should be very proud of yourself
Please remove the pipe clamp. It's an expansion joint, it's suppose to be there. You'll crack a weld. The header and the muffler heat up at a different rate.
U need swingarm cover i then chain wont pop and it cannot be too tight. Cause if u jump and land u can imiadetly destroy it
I did the hose clamps on my yz400f. I don’t get any popping though
That chain is now to tight .. they call for 2.5 or 3 inches of slack at the back of the chain slider on top of the swing arm..
Good rule of thumb Is 3 fingers
GoldGuy killin' it as usual, mad props son
If te carb is to lean can make more pop or louder pop.. so you changed te accelerator pomp he gets more fuel in higher rpm so no pop..
Wow that bike sounds amazing now . How’s the suspension feeling ?
my friends get on me when i do total rig shit like that exhaust clamp."Why dont you just get one for 5 dollars??" CAUSE I DONT WANNA WAIT A WEEK FOR IT TO COME IN THE MAIL

Engine ice is really good bro use it in my bikes and at the shop
Where did you find your engine? I’m looking for a RMz 250 and I can’t for the life of me find one.
It sounds totally different ☮️
What do u think it would be if 5th gear slips a little bit
So, how much have the bike costed you so far, and how much were freebies?
Just wondering how it compares to a good running one. :)
Good stuff love how you explain everything have helped me understand a lot better
this feelings man. fuck yes , there you go, much love
Keep up the good work my friend definitely track time 👌

Butler Pa.... That's up there in Quad Ricers hood. They have channel on TH-cam too.
hell ya.feels good to get your bike in good contition.

up vote for track day!
I think having one stock cam and one hot rods cam in it it will always give you trouble I would suggest getting the other aftermarket cam
Explain please

Watch his videos. He seems to know his stuff. I'd even venture to call him an expert.
Oil could be 10W60 or 20W50. Those handle hot better than 10W40.
How many people are in my area that would want to meet up at switchback next week?? Anyone?
GoldGuy I would buy don’t have a ride I’m try to go to the in door trakw they have
GoldGuy,
I'm in PA (Philly area). Me and a few friends go riding every 2 weeks. What area are you in?
You make good work with that yz.
Love your videos man - happy for you
Pop goes the weasel !
The chain ant to lose
Great job gold guy sounds lovely
You didn’t drain all the oil out, you missed the main drain bolt on the clutch side.
Yeah take that thing to switchback mx and rip it have fun
Did you top of the coolant after you ran the engine a bit?
Did the new coolant fix the gurgling?
Yeah it did! Engine ice coolant is good stuff.
Great job! Good video‼️👍✅👏 lets get it on the track!‼️🎥🏍🚦🏃
Yesss been waiting for this one!
you should add water with that coolant
Race bikes often are set tight and need adjusted pretty much every race. These high performance motors have a very low service life. It’s not a old Xr Honda
Mine was having trouble whenyour on the low speed
The coolant literally says 50/50 because your supposed to mix with water
Best video ever! Thx
Great job Bro
Good job 👍 keep growing
sounds great man like it should 👍
Use some gold and buy a presure washer to wash your bike after riding or at least before working on it
Awesome video! TRACK!
First the oil came out from 2 drain bolt, second bolt isn't drain bolt. Second this bike takes 1000 ml of oil, not 1200ml
It's crying out for new decal.
What's the total including the original $500?
Yes to track
Whats wrong with the pop pop pop! Sounds good to me….
Chain tension looked a tad tight
dont forget to bleed the cooling system
A guy already suggested that and, it seems he was ignored. I guess the kid will have to live and learn. He should invest in a new rad cap as well.
Just picked up the same bike. Any idea why he valves would be so loud? Mine are loud and I feel like it’s going to blow up
Probably the timing chain!
Austin Forstner it is going to blow up
She's gonna blow Jim !
