    I just have to say DoctorJo is the BEST! You’ve saved me from crying & feeling bad for days on multiple occasions! I workout 6x a week & have debilitating issues with my back, neck & shoulders! Some days aren’t the best & when I can barely move I always think maybe DoctorJo posted a stretch! Thank you so much for caring about the well being of other’s & all you do!

    Hi Dr. Jo. If you see this comment, I have a question about the stretches. I have pain in my latissimus but the pain wraps around my oblique as well. Are there any stretches that could take care of both of those pain areas? Thanks so much!!

    I recently just started having severe mid and lower back pain. I don’t have insurance and scared to see what the doctor would charge to see me. I looked up all the symptoms and seems like my Latissimus Dorsi are the issue. It’s been like this for 3 weeks and has gotten worse the past 3 days. Will these stretches help my issue? Thank you in advance.

    Hello, just stumbled onto this video. I tweaked my lat muscle on one side yesterday reaching across a bed for a pillow, so silly. I have pretty intense pain , today much less than yesterday thankfully. Getting a massage later. Should I push through the pain to do the exercises? Have not iced at all, probably too late at this point ( over 24 hours)….

    Would these stretches help if you're already having pain in the latissimus dorsi muscle? I've been having pain on my right side, just under my shoulder blade and nothing seems to make it feel better. Lying down it hurts a lot less, but doesn't fix the problem. Sitting and standing, even with proper posture still causes a lot of pain. :(

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** These might help. Have you been to a doctor to make sure it's not something with your kidneys? That area is pretty close to where they lie, and it might be worth getting checked out if you haven't yet. Good luck!

    • @sharonl9943
      @sharonl9943 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      AskDoctorJo it's possible. I have polycystic kidney disease and I was told by my nephrologist that it might cause pain sometimes. I've had pain from it before, but it's usually in my lower back. This is a bit higher, in my mid back, just under and to the left of my right shoulder blade. It seems to be a large semicircular area around my right shoulder blade near my spine and under.

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** It still could be your kidney, but I think it might be worth trying these stretches to see if they help. If they don't help, I would check in with the doctor just in case.

    Doctor Jo, Are these exercises for strengthening lat muscles also ? Are there any exercises for lat using thera band like you have for rotator cuff ? Thank you !

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +anil mathew These are mainly for stretching. If you have something to wrap the band around above you, you can do a lat pulldown (putting your arms out to the sides like a W) with the resistive bands that should help strengthen them. Good luck!

    I have a question/concern. I have strained my right Lat. I have a job where I constantly reach over my head and it seems to only hurt my right Lat. I can't just quit my job but it the pain never gets any better. I've tried you stretching and it helps but pain gets so bad at times it hurts to breath. It's been this way for a month and I can't keep taking off to go to my doctor at the risk of getting fired. Any other tips?

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you able to go see a physical therapist? Sounds like it might be something more than a lat strain.

  • @wickiezulu
    @wickiezulu 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    What is the best way of stretching out the Lats if one current has an on going Rotator Cuff tendonitis (of the subscapularis which am currently seeing osteo for)?
    Also feel like it is affecting the Serratus Anterior and Pectoralis muscles, basically much of the axilla area that am also seeing osteo for though most of the stretches to do at home either do really not hit the spot or depend on using certain muscles/movement that aggravate existing injuries in said areas.

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you asked your osteo what would be best? It's hard for me to know without getting to evaluate you. Maybe using a foam roller to hit specific spots without over stretching other areas would be best.

    • @wickiezulu
      @wickiezulu 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Before first going to osteo a year back, I regular worked out though the foam roller used in the gym only seems to aggravate the affected areas. Will try asking the osteo next time though it seems like the stretches given to take home do not really hit the spot.

      I may have had a slight compression trauma while moving a large cabinet a long time ago.I am small build and have pretty heavy big breasts.. I stand all day as a grocery clerk.. I have been working on upper body and core for almost 3 years.. Sooo much stronger and better.. I do interval training every day for at least 20 minutes before work.. I find 5 lb weights at the top of my comfort zone and definitely not every day.. usually 3 lb. I saw a few chiros and a physical therapists.. Never have seen an ortho.. I have had x rays howevr and the 2 of the chiros did not see any thing ..I weigh in at 118 or so, never weigh myself.. however with that, I will have to say my rib cage is like a 29 and my breast s are two very large cantaloupes.. what a chore carrying them around.. and I think they are the heart of my problem..

  • @dcpadula
    @dcpadula 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a sharp pain in my Lat Dorsi on my right side just below my shoulder blade, but the pain is really only there when I sit with proper posture. I work out a lot, but the pain hit on a Sunday morning after a 6 mile run the day before - no lifting. Doctor (PA) said I have a micro-tear, but I don't get any pain when I move my back or move my arms in any particular direction - not even when I lift anything. The pain is really only there when I seem to compress my back or put specific body weight on that area... such as sleeping on my right side. Been on muscle relaxers and no workout for 6 days, but the pain isn't subsiding nor getting worse. Starting to wonder if it's actually a muscle tear at all or if I need to get an X-ray. Any non-binding, disclaimer-heavy, non-professional advice you can throw at this?

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, that doesn't really sound like a muscle tear to the lat, especially if it happened when running. Also, if muscles relaxers haven't helped, it's probably more of a mechanical issue with possibly something slightly out of alignment (maybe a rib). Is the pain sharp, achy, radiating at all? Does it hurt if you take a deep breath in? How about the lat stretches, do any of those help or hurt? Have you ever had a back or shoulder injury in the past?

      If they are too painful, you really need to go see a doctor or physical therapist in person.

      If you haven't tried the above stretches, they might be worth trying 1-2 times a day for a few weeks. Good luck.
