Lazy Monday lure fishing on a jet ski

  • A mid day Monday fishing trip onto the Hauraki Gulf in New Zealand. Targeting Snapper and Kingfish on lures, jigging and softbaiting, fishing from a 2019 Yamaha Waverunner FXHO fishing jet ski. For some reason the snapper were rediculously hard to find today, but the day was saved by targetting a different species to take home some fresh fish. Fishing vlog

    Ended up looking a great day on the water there. Things are very slow here as well. Love eating Kahawai (Aussie Salmon here), I would have chased a few. Have got onto a few this week with my son who took them back with him. he lives 700km from the nearest coastline with his family. I will be heading out on my own today to chase a few.

      Yeah slow days aren't a bad thing, infact you tend to learn more on the slow days because you have to try harder to make things happen. Good luck with the fishing mate!

    awesome video man. jigging saves the day! cool catch on that sweep too at 6.24. seen a lot of those at the wharf 4 years ago and they resemble a lot like the maomao.

      Thanks man. Ahh so thats what it was, I thought it was a Moamoa because it looks alot like one but it must have been a Sweep!

    Nice vid(s) Glen.
    I was out there on Saturday arvo - conditions were perfect! But same thing happened to us. We had what seemed like a lot of sign on the sounder, but got hardly any bites at all. Moved around a bit. Only time we managed to get (some) bites was when there was no sign on the sounder. Went home with 1 x 40cm gurnard and 1 x 35cm snapper and that was it, a poor day fishing, but fun being out on the water as always.

      Yep it's just all part of fishing isn't it!? have to take the good days with the bad, but like you say it's still enjoyable being out on the water

    Hey mate, I've just started getting into jigging thanks to your vids. How do you read your finder to find kingfish?

    • @GCJetskiFishing
      @GCJetskiFishing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey mate, you basically look for schools of bait fish which look like big clouds on the fish finder, and then look for individual darker marks around the baitfish which will be kingfish

    Hey mate, what wetsuit or dry suit do you use? Trying to find a decent one for warmth (cold as he'll in bass straight over winter)
    Also what's the deepest depth you've anchored jetski into?

    • @GCJetskiFishing
      @GCJetskiFishing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Chris, I just use a waterproof out layer (jacket and pants) made for sailing etc. It's not the best in winter however, have you considered a 3 or 5mm wetsuit? Would definately keep you warm. Deepest I have anchored is probably 40m, I generally don't anchor though, just drift with the current

    • @poonarmy2855
      @poonarmy2855 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GCJetskiFishing thanks legend. Yeah thinking maybe a dry suit over wetsuit as I don't plan on ever getting in the water haha.
      I've got a cooper anchor but thinking of increasing size and going a bit deeper to anchor (only anchored in 5m) the bays over here need anchoring moreso than drift

    • @GCJetskiFishing
      @GCJetskiFishing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@poonarmy2855 It should be fine to anchor... just make sure you have a bit of chain on the anchor aswell to help make it hold

    How far do you have to go out to find kingies?

    • @GCJetskiFishing
      @GCJetskiFishing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You don't have to go far... you can catch them from land as well so you can find them anywhere really
