Hey mate, yes that jighead will be really good for deeper water, and they come up to 6 ounce so really heavy too. I can't wait to get back out onto the harbour and find the Trevs again!
Love the video. Most of the time the jumping fish in the Manukau are Mullet bro...I was a commercial Mullet and Flounder fisherman in the harbour. Kahawai don't jump unless hooked. You probably know that already so forgive me, but I am just making a general observation for the readers. Hard to tell what is what when two similar sized and shaped animals are leaping out of the Water, it could well have been a Kahawai broaching because of Kings hey. The Manukau pre farming, was the most prolific harbour in NZ, I have a hand written account from my Great great Grand Father of his days catching large Snapper with a handline cast from the shore near where Mangere bridge is now. One day the Harbour, with political will, may be the greatest fishing mecca again.Pollution from Farm run off has done the most damage.

Great video Glen! @Fishodavo mentioned that you have had a lot of success targeting trevs with softbaits and jigs, and I can see that from this video! Do you have any subtle differences in your approach when targeting these, as opposed to snapper? I have a lot of success with Snapper fishing (from a kayak) hopping/dragging the softbait/jigs along the bottom. Would like to catch a few more trevally though, and my impression is that the action might be a little more active? Thinking about current, tides, action, etc. Thanks again!
Thanks mate! I have a lot more Trevally videos posted on my channel too from over the years. I think with targetting Trevs it's really a matter of finding areas that they congregate which I have found to be in shallower water on the incoming tide around shellfish beds, pipis, scallops, oysters etc. And as far action of the softbait, I keep it hard on the bottom just constantly doing small bounces is what seems to work for me. What areas do you fish?

I don't have a fish finder so learning to use maps and the like to scout out an area prior to fishing. At the moment I'm fishing Leigh, Jones Bay, etc. Spent some time fishing Sullivan's Bay too and all have been productive mostly. Just trying to refine the skills a bit now, and Trevally are always high up on the list. Will check out those other videos. Thanks again. H
@@hiltonjohnson I think the incoming tide matters most in the really shallow areas, as the fish come up on the incoming and then leave when the tide turns so they don't end up getting trapped without water. Don't be scared to go shallow either, I've caught plenty of Trevs in under 1m of water

Generally up on the banks on a incoming tide... be careful fishing on the banks on the outgoing as you might get yourself stranded

Great video. How do you rate those clips for changing softbaits/jigs over?
I haven't been using them very long but they are handy when you need to change weights or jigs often, these are the only kind that my local shops had
