  • I show you how I fixed the P047a CEL code on my 2009 Volkswagen TDI. Hopefully this helps some people out there in the same situation.

Hey, thank you for this video, It really helped me take care of this in a short amount of time. Would have been shorter if I had not done this right after getting home (hot engine)
For this job, I recommend using two angle short T40 and T30 keys (They look like L's) to reach those ones in the back.
Also for the pipe clamp the needle nose vise grips are practically essential.
My hoses had an outer sheath that I cut a slit in with scissors to open it up to access the hose clamp.
I pulled up on the old sensor while using a flat screwdriver to push the rubber hose off.
A little bit of lubrication would definitely help to put the new one on. Thought to myself would have been nice to pull off?
After the hose got put on, yea, undo the vice grip and put everything back together.
Cleared the codes on my scanner and I'm crossing my fingers while I drive for a day before getting it inspected

Thanks. I have this same problem but my car will be bought back by VW shortly. I likely will try to clean out the two tubes and make sure they don't leak first. I have read that sometimes, as you mention, this can clear the error code. Prior to your video, I wasn't sure where to start, but this is RELATIVELY easy. That is to say, I can reach it. Thanks again.

Really helpful! Thanks for making this video. I just did this last night to fix the P0470 code I was getting on my 2010 Jetta. That hose clamp really was frustrating...

    excellent video!!!!!!!!
i was searching for other videos and they were ridiculously dumb an uninformative. Your video was extremely helpful.
Just a note--- i used WD40 to loosen the nipple up where it enters the hose, then the flathead. I had absolutely no issues getting mine off my 7 year old TDI with 89k

+Ferdinand Bergen i should add--- i hope more people find your video. There are like 10,000 views on another video that provides absolutely no substance.

additionally, if this doesnt get rid of the P047A code, there is second sensor in an additional location... not sure if anyone has a video on that, but I hear this requires a VCDS for some sort of tuning on that sensor.
If this one fixes your error code, I think we're the lucky ones, no VCDS required

    Very helpful video.
okay, I've changed both Exhaust Pressure Sensors (EPS), the engine light is off - But I'm still getting the P047A error. I've also got some other issues EP control valve "A" is stuck open (P047F), plus P0401 EGR. Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow insufficient Detected.
My question for the wiser, would the EPS be affected by the other errors? meaning if I make the necessary repairs to the EGR and EP control valve would my P047A error go away. My gut says yes only because I assume the entire emissions system is tied together.

Did you disconnect the battery before starting work ?
And does the sensor just pull apart from the hoses, saving the need to undo clamps and bolts, etc.
    Thanks

You are correct it is a p047a code. All these years later, I don't know what I was thinking. Thanks for the correction
