The Astras are my favorite light. I have used a bunch of different types of lights and I find myself gravitating to the Astras more and more because of ease of use. Just plugging in a single IEC cable and you're ready to shoot. You can get battery plates for them as well and they are super clutch. The Chimera soft box takes up like no space at all when its folded up.
They do feel a little outdated at times. No LCD screen to read % with power or kelvin. You kinda just have to guess. No integrated app to control the lights.
I still think they are worth it especially for the sale price. I purchased a 3 light travel kit a while back and paid over 4k.
Im thinking of picking up a Daylight 6X. Its hard competing with windows with the Bicolor versions and still keeping them soft with diffusion. I think the the Daylight version would be just enough power to keep up.
Great video! I love seeing you trouble shoot issues and your thought process for making life easier on set. This information is always so valuable.

@@JoelGabrielsen Thanks for the insight! Your video really got me re-interested. I would love to see aputure come out with an equivalent, not the f22 series. Nanlite has their pavoslim but I wasn’t a fan of the quality of light or the poorly designed ‘softbox.’ It barely softened the light, mostly cut the intensity. And of course, I’d love for everything to be on Sidus.
I think I could do two astra style lights and one large cob to cover a ton of situations.

@@davidmorefield Dude I know! I love the F22C lights are great but there are way too many parts to make them work. The case that they come is way too big. You can't really transport them build because they take up too much space. I spend probably 15-20 minutes setting them up! They do have a lot of output 200watts but just not worth the headache of keeping up with the parts to make them work. They are also about the same weight as the Astras lol You would be set with two Astras and a cob light for most shoots. Absolutely!

Yea bi colors are not not bright enough for windows and daylight on these bi color 6x Astras the Astra new ip is a way better investment he’ll never regret it they will get lots of use . Obviously setup would be a it more complicated but what about an F22x or F22c? Basically the same surface area as the astra with a chimera, super small case to transport. 200 watts of soft light output and the quality of light is really lovely

I have a 2 x set of Astras , that they sell as a travel pack ,that came with a pelican case on wheels , not that big. The only way to get a soft light is to make the source ( softbox / diff frame ) big and close to the subject. So a 1x1 is going to need a decent size softbox / diff frame / bounce , to work as an interview key . 6x through a pop out diff 90cm , is probably the most compact way to achieve it for travel .

Allow me to present some alternatives:
    - Zhiyun Cinepeer 100 (new 100w tubelight) + Molus G300 and maybe a more modern softbox? New ones fold almost flat and should be easier to carry.
    - Intellytech Lightcloth system (If you don't mind the setup time)
    - Nanlite Pavoslim 240? The have a square and a rectangular version.

      @davidmorefield  18 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

@@AlreadyTiredOfYou I don’t want to be a hater 😂 but Im definitely going to sound like one. I have small objections to each of these.
      - I’m not the biggest fan of Zhiyun, having used them recently. Would like to stay in Sidus app as well. Unfortunately Astras do not integrate to Sidus either.
      - Intellytech lightcloth is more setup than I want to commit to. I’m not a fan of building out the light structures. That’s part of the appeal of panel lights. Put them in the stand and done.
      - I used the nanlite pavoslim 120 in a recent gig. The included soft ox really didn’t do much. We had to use a second bit of diffusion with reduced the output even more. And they didn’t travel that easy. Once they are up, they’re fine but just not the right fit for me.
Ok I’m done with the negativity haha. All of these lights could get the job done. I appreciate the suggestions.

The new astra IP bi color is double the power and u will not regret it . The issue with these older Astras is you can’t see the actual colors temps it’s not precise etc . Get one new astra ip vs 2 older models then but another ip later Or another option is getting the amaran 22c that come with new upgraded brackets and soft box they are around $750 when on sale and they come with gold or vmounts and casing . With the Astras they make u buy everything extra plus you wanna buy insurance with these they are light so they are made less rugged and if they fall form a stand they can break. .
