Best use of an electric saz (baglama) I've seen so far. Outside of Turkish music. This is not your dad's Baba Zula that's for sure. I'm sure there are a dozen things Lydon and PIL do that make western conservatives (music fans) squirm. Yet you can't deny the innovation that they always bring.
Thanks for the clarification, I saw them in 2010 at Coachella and I thought it was some kind of custom-made mandolin or a lute or something. He was totally awesome and everything, but I miss the guy from Magazine, too.

The performance of Warrior just amazes me (in a good way). I'm speechless. The subtle shifts in tone and melody between the band and John's restrained yet powerful vocal is just so much to take in. What a captivating performance. Thanks guys.

True, nighttime would have been better. I was there and this was a huge highlight for me. It seems surreal now that I was there. It was sunny and hot that afternoon. The band was being blasted in the face by the brutal sun.
@@razremytuxbuddy saw them at old Avelon club in Boston around 85, you are correct, dark intimate setting was almost like it was part of the show. PS..show was simply incredible.
I love the fact that they change and tweak songs for a live performance so its not just a copy and paste of the recorded version, and as always Lu Edmonds guitar work is a thing of beauty. Pity John McGeoch passed so early as I can only imagine the stuff Lu and him wouldve kept creating
Easily the best PiL lineup since the early days of Levene and Wobble. John really shows how great a performer he can be with a great band backing him up.
I saw this gig from the front of the crowd at the barrier. The highlight of the Glastonbury weekend for me. Open Up brought a lump to my throat when the synth bass kicked in, unbelievable and Brilliant! Security presence increased when PIL came on, but the gig was calm and fantastic.
Absolutely love the guitar player (Lu Edmonds) in PIL. Saw them on Jules Holland and they blew me away. They are all great musicians allowing John the freedom to go wherever he wants.
This is an awesome show. PiL never stand still. It's unbelievable to have seen the Sex Pistols in San Francisco in 1978, and to see John still performing all these years later. I'd go seem them live in a heartbeat
Who are you warning, people who imagined or dreamed that this upload made that claim in any way? Reading between the lines, what your comment is really saying, is, "Look at me! Look at me! I know about the Sex Pistols and P.I.L. therefore I am the cool for being down with 40 year old, commercially successful music." Big fucking whooop!
You know, after the Pistols, I never heard much from PIL. One of those things I guess. I just overlooked them. I saw this on Palladia first. I was really into this guitarist right off the bat. I heard metal, I heard house/dance electronic, driving, pulsating rhythms along with this Russian/Turkish type vibe and then Lydon's pretty decent vocals. I found this performance good enough to now go back and make a playlist of PIL's recordings. Delightful discovery I must say. I had no prior listening experience with PIL to compare this viewing to. I was left to merely judge it on it's own merits. I loved it. Really dig Lu's playing and they way he incorporates any stringed instrument into the mix here. No priceless '59 Les Pauls or $10,000 PRS guitars for this guy. I appreciate that big time. Even the Tele looked like a cheap $100 clone. Looked like he had 2 small amps in stereo miked into the PA. His sound is just this huge roar with all kinds of colors in the echoes, etc;. Just very cool. Nice surprise for me. And yes, I was into my 20's when the Pistols came out. I ate it up. It was a fun time for me. Sweaty basement bars and "punk" (hate the term/label still). It was great. Johnny's put on the pounds but, he looks to put his all into these shows from what I've seen. Give him that. Like I said, this was a delightful surprise to me.
I was and still am a huge Public Image fan from the mid 80's. I think John sounds great. He's not a young man full of angst anymore, but he'd still smack you in the head if you wise cracked him. His look has changed, but that's to be expected. Long live the Sex Pistols
Since U2 I didn't like rhythmical delays on my distorting Marshall but hearing Lu I can't wait to try again! After 60 years of guitar oriented rock 'n roll the electric saz is a real revelation... Actually I love the whole band!! The Dionysian ornaments of Johnny blend perfectly with the musicians.
yes johns painfull crescendo really melds with lous soaring vibrato and delay, its ,its almost juniper blossoms in a japenese garden dont you think Robny?
were like two dueling guitars with none of your actual guitars dont you think, oh, sorry ,you hit a invisible bum note their my "new rhyhm guitarist.".DO NOT ATTEMPT LEAD..avert your eyes and carry on with barre chords while i cruise on lead to sheer perfection i! screams & wet seats..the girls are sated......
I wasn't in the punk queue and couldn't follow their sounds "back then", but these blokes have stayed with their core. Im glad to hear this concert was well received by the crowd. It was a sunny day and John realizes that the sun should be celebrated. there was a sunny tone....never heard that in the past.
Terry Walsh Lu Edmonds ( Lu short for Lunatic or Lu-Knee) real name Robert David Edmonds has also played with The Mekons, Shriekback, and with Billy Bragg and played on tracks with the late Kirsty MacColl ( he played on her hit "They don't know") , he's a multi instrumentalist as well playing Bass,Keyboards,Drums, and a variety of other strange instrument's.
Saw this tour a few years earlier, in the city I live in. It was a small club, we are all absolutely blown away, it was amazing! The intimacy, the power of the songs, truly amazing! Johnny even said it was the nicest club he had ever played in.
Thanks so much for posting all of this, utterly superb. Saw them last night (June 2018) at tiny gig in Frome, the Cheese & Grain. JL's voice so very strong, and the bass & drums were just brilliant. A hot and sticky night in a small venue, it took me right back to the 70s.

Public Image Ltd is fantastic, I'm especially impressed with Lu Edmonds. What a talent!
I love the fact that they change and tweak songs for a live performance so its not just a copy and paste of the recorded version, and as always Lu Edmonds guitar work is a thing of beauty. Pity John McGeoch passed so early as I can only imagine the stuff Lu and him wouldve kept creating
dam that guitarist lu is freaking killing it, from the start to the end, on all his different instruments. kickin some major arse. very clean too.
Easily the best PiL lineup since the early days of Levene and Wobble. John really shows how great a performer he can be with a great band backing him up.
This kind of ART NEVER DIE! THE JOHNY LYDON AND HIS BAND!!
Never knew this man had such a range of voice. He sounds beautiful. I like the sounds the band is making as well.
Brilliant.. so powerful voice, finally i found the band of my life...astonishing !!
Ikr he's fuckin awesome ❤
He's still got it in abundance! Worked that afternoon crowd like the maestro he is!
Thank you so so much John and the band for doing this. I have invested very well my Friday night discovering this music.
Whatever that thing Lu Edmonds is playing.......I want one! What a good gig. Power is amazing.
The great survivors return!!!..I saw them twice in 1978!, New York..what great days! and they still sound superbe!
GREAT SHOW..THSES GUYS WERE SO UNDERRATED...
I saw them live in Manhattan at the "pier" I think...............
Legend! Wasted on this crowd! Education, education, education! One of the most influential performers of the 20th century right there!
Skill meets passion. It doesn't get any better.
Wow Lu Edmonds is as epic as Keith Levene. Haven't listened to much PIL since the early 90s. Must rectify this.
How anyone could describe that show as anything other than awesome is beyond me. But then I'm nice.
I could watch John all day long. I love the way he moves with the music. PiL are so tight!!!
Same
Absolutely love the guitar player (Lu Edmonds) in PIL.
WARNING: THIS IS NOT THE SEX PISTOLS OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT EXCEPT FOR THE VOCALS
ANOTHER WARNING: THIS IS NOT A LOVE SONG
Who are you warning, people who imagined or dreamed that this upload made that claim in any way?
Reading between the lines, what your comment is really saying, is, "Look at me! Look at me! I know about the Sex Pistols and P.I.L. therefore I am the cool for being down with 40 year old, commercially successful music."
Big fucking whooop!
obs: its better
Good, have a little bit more of a cry about it, you'll feel better in the morning.
Dick Flavor What your point son? I haven't made comment see if you will like it or not,
Full on gonk... as you were.
Like I said, this was a delightful surprise to me.
me too, his sneer has gone but still menaces.
I go back to watching this year after year. Effin' baglama!
it's a beautiful spring sunday the windows are open and listening to lu is magical!!
Brilliant performances by everyone on stage. What a great set. The audience were a bit crappy though!!!
It's Glastonbury in the modern era - what do you expect?
Terry Walsh
That's another beautiful description Terny. Thx!
were like two dueling guitars with none of your actual guitars dont you think, oh, sorry ,you hit a invisible bum note their my "new rhyhm guitarist.".DO NOT ATTEMPT LEAD..avert your eyes and carry on with barre chords while i cruise on lead to sheer perfection i! screams & wet seats..the girls are sated......
That was a Brilliant SHOW,, by Pil,,, John has a Class Voice,,
How is this so good. Jesus Lydon is killing it. Young bands could learn a thing or two.
Love to Johnny! ❤️ He is absolutely unique and extraordinary!
I wasn't in the punk queue and couldn't follow their sounds "back then", but these blokes have stayed with their core. Im glad to hear this concert was well received by the crowd. It was a sunny day and John realizes that the sun should be celebrated. there was a sunny tone....never heard that in the past.
I am digging this band which, oddly, I discovered only 2-3 weeks ago! Great stuff!
Fabio Guadagnuolo
welcome onboard Fabio! I discovered them in 1981....and have been hooked ever since.
Where have you been hiding?
You like this tosh? Wow....
@@Winged_Vision Yes I do :-)
@@goranl2316 I've been here, I've been there... almost everywhere, but never here :-)
"I Love PIL" - They sound as good as they did at the beginning".
He has always been phenomenal. He has evolved. He is the man. Morrissey has my hypothetical groin, but Lyon has the power and embodiment.
man they sound great
wow.... this is fuckn AWESOME!!!!!! the mix is beautiful, and that's what PIL is about, the FUCKING SOUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is that the fella who was in Cast ?
drlargepants dont have a clue..hes been in the damned...
Terry Walsh Lu Edmonds ( Lu short for Lunatic or Lu-Knee) real name Robert David Edmonds has also played with The Mekons, Shriekback, and with Billy Bragg and played on tracks with the late Kirsty MacColl ( he played on her hit "They don't know") , he's a multi instrumentalist as well playing Bass,Keyboards,Drums, and a variety of other strange instrument's.
permaveg hey nice 1 mate..hes brilliant, i know that.
WolvoExPunk1 "wheres captain kirk" -'oil' 'energy' ?
Wolvo, did he play in the damned for a while?
Awesome, how the crowd doesn't get him, and Lydon is just giving a crap, doing his thing, and getting from minute to minute better !
Saw this tour a few years earlier, in the city I live in. It was a small club, we are all absolutely blown away, it was amazing! The intimacy, the power of the songs, truly amazing! Johnny even said it was the nicest club he had ever played in.

@@davidpeterson4211 thanks for that mate. Good stuff. Pil inspired prodigy a little with there sound
@@voyeurcoma638 what's that all about.
Lu is a legend. What a player. That Gretsch sounds massive on Rise
He puts me in mind of Captain Beefheart (of whom he was a big fan): extraordinary voice, constantly changing backing band, weird lyrics...
that was pretty good, great guitar, and Lydon was bringing it. i like the way he's aging
Truly mad truly great, fantastic musicianship too! Awesome sound, took me by surprise just how great they were and are now!
amazing band, great energy. the guitarist is one of the best ive heard. look up the word “talent” . the two songs before “public image”. - amazing baselines with guitars, lydon and drummer in beautiful synergy synergy
