As a former member of P.I.L. in 1983. This is the BEST line up of this band. This guitarist so took the role of guitar to a very high level of art. He is F'N Fabulous. FYI it was my idea to add (This Is Not A) to what was previously referred to as "Love Song." 5 songs from 1983 remained on the set list. Hmmmm? We brought those songs to a new/higher level in 1983. This version for the band in the 21st century took them to an amazing, new, creative existence. AMAZING!

" Deeper Waters " is such an upgrade as far as songwriting is concerned ... a certain melancholy/darkness to it which hadn´t been heard ever since " Flowers of Romance " or even a couple Levene " penned " things in " Commercial Zone " / " This is what you want ... " .
Great opener ... instantly became my favourite song on the album upon its release .

Jesus, some of this songs that aren't around youtube so easily are so freaking good. They also have some serious metal vibes, so powerful is the singing.
So... I'm completely new to John's later works. Went in here reluctantly expecting Anarchy in the UK kind of vocals but crappier due to the age. And instead, was pleasantly surprised to find some really good music with unique and powerful vocals.

I worked with Martin Atkins (the Drummer) of this band while i was in Chicago 2015-2016 great guy! He's also featured in the Head Like A Hole video by Nine Inch Nails. The merch he has at his home is crazy!! The reel to reel tape machine he has still works and has old unreleased stuff on it!!

Between 1976 and 1982 I'm the biggest fan of Lydon's work. 1983 onwards I've been his harshest critic. I've got to say though, Albatross here is amazingly good. For my money, Metal Box is one of only a few works - by anyone - that can truly considered "psychedelic" (although it is a "bad trip" I'm thinking of!); and this version here of Albatross catches the essence of what I mean. It would be impossible (and pointless) to attempt to replicate the recorded version of this number (and most other pieces on Metal Box) in a live setting - especially 40 odd years later and with a different line up from that which composed and performed on the original - so it's absolutely correct to amend the arrangement. It's also in keeping with the original free form and semi improvised spirit of the original that a number like Albatross should be malleable and "mutate" from performance to performance. Admirable.
The 1983 version of PIL "Live In Japan" was up to that point the BE ST live performance version of the band. Let me say this 40 years from then and in regard to this line up on 2013. THIS IS WHAT P.I.L. was meant to sound like. Guitarist is AMAZING.

The nice thing is that i was there ...the bad thing is because i had to choose between PIL or the BUZCOCK to days later .... sometimes "life's a bitch" ^^ there were there for an exposition about the 40's year of the punk movement at the "cité de la musique " in paris
le concert des Buzzcocks n'était pas à la hauteur selon moi. j'explique : en 2006 est sorti Flat Pack Philosophy. lorsque les Buzzcocks ont démarré leur tournée ils ont été obligé de trouver un batteur pour remplacer Phil barker. Peu de temps après, c'est au tour de Tony Barber bassiste et producteur du groupe depuis 1993 qui s'en va. le bassiste qui le remplaça n'arrivait pas à la cheville de Tony Barber. mou sur scène, et c'est ainsi que depuis 2006 j'ai décroché avec les buzzcocks, qui faisait partie de mes groupes favoris. d'autant plus que Pete Shelley est devenu méconnaissable. voilà. donc j'ai préféré voir Public Image Limited, concert que j'ai partagé avec mon fils qui fetait ses 10 ans. (c'est lui que l'on apercçoit pendant "this is not a love song" Merci encore pour ton commentaire.
