This video is incredible! Thank you for that! I discovered my shoulder problem is actually neck. 🙏🏻👏🏼😄 Much better to work understanding what’s going on.
Just had a revelation when you mentioned scooter driving. i’m a beginner at ashtanga and have been trying jumping into plank/caturanga for a couple of weeks. The last few days, I feel like a pulled a muscle in my shoulderblade. I have also played intense pingpong for 2 days... and that’s the same wrist movement you showed for scooter driving. I makes the shoulder pain worse, just doing it in the air. Thanks for the neck massage tips. i hope this heals soon, hard to tell if it’s just a sore muscle or an injury.
Thank you for this. I've injured my shoulder, not through yoga but as a result of climbing and this has been very helpful in identifying ways to manage it safely through my yoga practise. Very informative.
Thank you dearly for this! I am an artist, so I use my hands quite a lot, I am an avid sourdough bread baker and I am addicted to yoga. I frequently get issues with my right shoulder, which oftentimes makes my yoga practice and baking an impossibility, and that makes me furious every time. With this video you gave me tools to work on that.
Thank you for this! I deal with a couple of chronic conditions - one of which makes shoulder and neck pain very common. This will help me adjust my practice to avoid flares.
I thank you so much for your knowledgeable explanation and positive attitude! It definitely helps me addressing my actual minor shoulder problem and inspires me to watch out to prevent new ones!😉 i especially like that you advise how to deal with your information, very helpful! Thank you, be blessed, Namaste , Monika from Germany
Dear Stu, what you say about where to place the elbow in "Chaturanga" is ok, so far you movement begin in the elbow bending and not in the wrist or worse in the scapula area. Many yoga practitioner are loosing the connection with they back, to be simple.....scapula adduction occurs and this is the main problem that overcharge the front part of the shoulder muscle and joint. To maintain the "Hollow body position" even slightly, and make use of the serratus and back muscle is a thing to know and to do. Training the stabilitation muscle of the shoulder is an important part of a body worker, no matter what is doing. So doing, time to time, some set of static hold of chaturanga, but also up facing dog, for 5sets of 30 sec. with 90 sec. rest is a good advaice. More work on shoulder blade stability and shoulder joint mobility is a must also. Close chain and open chain movements also, this means....moving for the origin or insertion of a muscle to better understand what is real working in an action. thank's for your open mind behaviour! best regards Tiziano Grandi Italy
I tore my bicep doing something else but before it was diagnosed I irritated muscles around the shoulder area. I need help as I can't seem to do anything without extreme pain in front and back of shoulder. Wrong movement can hurt my bicep. I miss my ashtanga and need to get back to yoga. I need help in healing. Any suggestion of correcting and doing ashtanga without killing myself with chaturanga?
Me too! I always get adjusted Pras. Pad. C and now I totally fear it. The shoulder pain I'm having from those brutal adjustments have made me have to skip days. Grrrrr!!!! Thank you Stu for bringing this up.
I had an adjustment in Prasarita padottanasana C a few months ago - I can't get my palms tight together in this pose and my teacher forced them together while I was in the pose. Months later my shoulder still hurts and I still can't do C without wincing.
Thank you very much for this informative video. I’m actually struggling with tingling and numbness that could be mistaken for carpel tunnel. I really strongly Sense inflammation in my should neck upper back area is causing this versus wrists bc I have no pain with wrist movement. I will try the stretches you reviewed

allways thought yoga is somehow based on principle of ahimsa. how come then, that someone hurts oneself with asana practice? suppressed unconscious aggression?
