Drew. I just got my new issue of Better Homes and Gardens magazine today in the mail. I had to look through it and guess whose face I saw. YOURS! Congratulations Sir. I’m 73 years old and like to live young. I’m obsessed with your style and love everything you do. Thanks so much for your videos and thanks for the way you make me feel like we’re friends. ❤
I own a fake brown Kelly, came from *suluxy* and it is just perfect, excellent craftmenship. Even if I had that money I would never pay that much for a bag, it is simply ridicolous. You can build a school or a hospital in Africa for that kind of money. Ridicolous prices!!!
I love all your ideas. I immediately went out for a walk and picked a large bundle of wheat and wrapped it with a long piece of dried grass. Found pinecones , acorns, ferns and moss. And put them on an old wooden bowl and it was beautiful, plus it great exercise.
My local city dump has a hazardous waste collection area and people turn in leftover paint, half used cans of paint etc. All of that goes into the FREE PAINT ROOM for anyone to take. They have wood stains and cleaning products free as well. My trick is if one can doesn't have enough for my projects, I collect multiple cans of similar colors and mix them together. I mixed like 4 whites and off whites and got enough paint for my whole hallway. I don't know if every city has this but it is worth checking into.
I collected left over white paint from my friends & others.....and did a quick paint job once I got the keys to my house I bought back in 1980....once there..saved up & redid the rooms they way I wanted with color
If you hear the wind going nuts at night, the next day will be BRANCH CHRISTMAS and you can just wander down the street and pick up styling branches and you don’t even need clippers
Bonus tip - especially if you're not sure of what constitutes clutter in your space. Take photos of your room(s) from various angles. Looking at the photos later on a computer screen that frames the space and 'flattens' it (because it's not 3d like when you're looking at it IRL) will make the cluttered areas leap out at you and make it easier to see the areas that need attention. Once you clear the clutter away, take another pic but this time look at it in greyscale. This will show you where your room looks out of balance, which might just show you exactly what wall needs more or less art, what furniture needs shifting a bit, what throw pillows or blankets might be too dark or light - that kind of thing.
I've thrown a stuff swap party. Everything anyone wanted to bring from home decor to bags sweaters. We filled tge rooms and everyone got to take home things they liked. Now we have a chat group and anyone's able to post items for free or wanted. Everything from coats to appliances to home stuff... we trade items around 🎉
Dearest Drew, "Older" lady from Australia here. These Ten Tips are so very valuable and insightful. I hope you are quietly setting your ideas down on paper for publication. You are a very humble man. Watching your channel is like being with a friend. Many thanks. 😊😊😊
Drew!!!! Two years ago I watched a video of yours about Bed Styling. I'm updating and went straight to that video and now I'm here. You are such a GEM ! Thank you! ❤
Some great tips in this video. I recently found a large branch of a cherry blossom tree in bud that had cracked off the tree in a public space. I picked up a number of smaller branches and took them home - the beds kept growing for a week, but no flowers. Here in Sydney, Australia, our local councils regularly have “throw out” events where unwanted household items can be left next to the sidewalk for council collection. I have found so many free treasures just walking around my neighbourhood at those times. Of course there is some rubbish, but I’ve also found clay pots, outside furniture, and other decor and furniture that is still useable or that can be updated. Unfortunately, a lot of people who sell on Marketplace have also cottoned on to this free treasure. But I persevere in my “treasure hunts” and do my bit to save landfill.
Great tips there, Drew. I can always find fallen branches etc for a display & even make use of wild blooms such as lilac & buddleia. If using bought flowers, I just buy 3 single stems and arrange in a vase with a selection of foliage from a few local bushes that need 'tidying up'! Love your style, Drew.
Scent also elevates the house. Clean the house. Open a window daily to ventilate the space. Bring in fragrant flowers and or use a reed diffuser, scented candles or natural scent like orange or lemon clove pomanders
I like to put a pot of water on to simmer and add fruit peelings from apple or citrus, a bag of chai or herbal tea, maybe a stick of cinnamon or cloves, a splash of vanilla. Smells good and everything is food grade safe. Just be aware of your guests allergies, I know someone allergic to cinnamon.
A friend of mine used a basement room her local church and set up a few tables and invited friends and family members to come over and bring decorations and decor items that they didn't want any more and people swapped items and then they had a few tables set up so that you could bring a meal for yourself like a sub or sandwich or salad and a drink.eat with friends a family, and bring a donation for the local food pantry which this church has one ,they ended up with two grocery bags of canned food for the food pantry. Another one that I heard about was at a church or community center bring leftover items from DIY projects scraps of fabric ,paint, wood ,and use those items to make something new and different from them for decor for your home.
I did purchase Howard’s Feed n Wax on Drew’s recommendation. I have a couple of antique wood pieces that I swear screamed out for joy. Wait, maybe that was me! I’ve told everyone about it! Thanks Drew!
Edible squash is a great styling food! They lasts ages too so even if youre slow to eat them its all good. Ive got a wicker bowl on my counter filled with a few.
Linda here…Yes! We live on a sailboat and have a hammock that we keep long-term items like butternut squash and spaghetti squash and sometimes beets as well. Looks nice and frees up refrigerator space for more perishable items.
Also those dried/dehydrated orange slices. I have used them for Christmas ornaments and then put them in a jar on my counter, and then once they don’t look so great anymore use them as potpourri
Howards feed and wax. is the only wax I use on my antique Italian furniture For intricate carving I bought a new soft shoe brush and use the feed and wax on it to get all those nooks and crannies clean. After, I use a soft rag and buff off excess.
Thanks, Drew, for all your affordable and easy to do tips! I appreciate you sharing your creative ideas with us! I love your fun and enthusiastic personality!
Howard’s Feed-n-Wax is such a genius product, especially if you love vintage and antique wood furniture! I’ve used it for years, and I find I need it more since moving to Arizona and battling a very dry environment. I love the other ideas, too. I really can’t wait for upcoming videos!!
I have done the swap with my friends for years. We call it 5 for 5! It can be home decor, cookware, books, holiday decorations or any accessories. We take turns picking and have a blast. Everyone always leaves feeling that they have found new treasures.
In NJ, we call it Oops Paint. My local Benjamin Moore always has some on hand. Lots of oops happen when the wrong base color is used when mixing custom colors. I've used it quite a bit. Love a bargain...
Great tips. #5 about the Howard’s Feed n Wax needs a disclaimer: a piece treated with this gets wax in the pores of the wood. It looks better but can never be refinished. Clean then shellac (3 coats, which can easily be removed later). Shellac can then Be waxed if you wish. Or treated with Feed n Wax. The SHELLAC will melt off with denatured alcohol when it’s time to refinish. The wax is an unnecessary step IMO and shellac lacks all the noxious chemicals which are in the Howard’s. Try it :)
I replaced all of the outlet and switch covers in my living room and it has made a huge difference. I used brass covers and found matching brass dimmer switches
Sofas OFF the wall look 10x better so go for it with confidence - especially that you have lots of space in US houses, unlike in the UK or rest of Europe❗ Good luck 🌿
Great tips! I once picked up a $10 gallon of mis-tinted paint and got a 20 rebate from the paint company! I bet whoever processed the paperwork was either upset or laughed!
Desde que te encontré no me he perdido un solo video tuyo.Llego a la conclusión de que eres un gran artista 😊❤ seguire viéndote y disfrutando contigo ,mariangeles desde Granada España
Love these ideas! Def took notes! Def checking out West Elm floor planner tool! I also got bright colored masking tape from Walmart to use my tae measurer to tape out on my floor where furniture could go since I am starting with a furniture-less apartment (except airbed). For example, leaving 36" from where table edges could be so chairs have 36" of room. There are many guides online for common furniture sizes and how much space to leave around furniture, sizes rugs should be, etc. I love FB Marketplace but it can involve renting a Home Depot truck and/or having a friend to help and/or access to a van or SUV or truck. Always worth asking if people will deliver.
I went ro home depot to buy paint for my front door. They literally had their top of the line pitdoor paint in the mistint section in the colour I wanted. Boom 8$ onstead of 35$. Also check the mistint section often. Even if you arent readt to paint, if your colour comes up, you can store it for a few years no problem. Also! They are usually change the mistint if you ask (a few shades lighter or darker).
All great ideas. Just an FYI: not all light bulbs are 'Dimmable' (Who knew, I found out the hard way) so read the label carefully. Also, I just tried out a 'Rechargeable Battery Operated Light Bulbs' for a lamp where there was no electrical outlet and they are AWESOME. Three light choices and also DIMMABLE !!
I think I will think about the hanging fruit veggie racks. I’m just starting to tile my backsplash and the absence of bowls on my counter would open space for me ❤

Such a brilliant idea
So fun
❤❤

*Howard's Feed n Wax is the moisturizer for dry old furniture - Like adding water to a wilted dying plant.* ♥
This is such a great way to explain it!!
Thank you for all the great ideas! Definitely will be doing some of these.
If you hear the wind going nuts at night, the next day will be BRANCH CHRISTMAS and you can just wander down the street and pick up styling branches and you don’t even need clippers
This is a genius tip and I feel like an idiot for this never occurring to me in all my 32 years of life 😂

I've done the photo thing, but I'm gonna try to grayscale photo trick too! Thanks!
@@cbjones2212 Brilliant!✨️😁✨️
Whoa. What a hack. Never heard of this before but as a Hoarder, I must try this

Totally agree with you!
I've also used the Howard's bees wax on a vintage leather handbag, and it came out beautifully! 👜🐝❤
Drew!!!! Two years ago I watched a video of yours about Bed Styling. I'm updating and went straight to that video and now I'm here. You are such a GEM ! Thank you! ❤
Decor swapping is brilliant. Who would've thunk? I can use every single tip you provided. So sad that the video was over so quickly! 😢❤
I have not seen anyone with this much taste in forever, thank you for keeping me on
I'm getting rid of extra clutter and my home is feeling better and better 😊

I recently found 3 artworks while thrifting and all for $10. Beautiful vintage art in heavy solid frames and not mass produced but from an artist.
I usually skip these sorts of “advice” posts, but this one is really helpful. I saved it so I can refer to it again.
Never skip Drew, it doesn't matter how much you know about anything inside your house, he's got an idea you've never thought of. ✌️

Decluttering, right now.. whew!!

As someone with fragrance allergies, scents are why I can’t go into most peoples homes!

I love your idea of a decor swap! Great tips Drew! Thank you!
# 7 and 10 I always do! My furniture keeps on moving around! It gives me the impression it’s new just because it’s in a different place!
Great tips. #5 about the Howard’s Feed n Wax needs a disclaimer: a piece treated with this gets wax in the pores of the wood. It looks better but can never be refinished.
