Tips from someone who cleans luxury homes: if you decide to diy paned glass on your windows, I'd say put them up high or consider making them easily removable to clean the glass. Especially in a kitchen :)
Another tip, Marble counters are a beautiful addition to your kitchen and bathroom spaces, but if you choose to have marble remember to set your coffee makers and other various "wet" appliances on a protective surface to keep that acidic coffee or water/ slushy machine material from sitting on your marble surfaces. Almost all cleaners that are meant to remove mineral build up are acidic and can't be used on natural stone, so if you want to preserve that beautiful glossy high end look, you want to make sure that water and other liquids aren't sitting on these surfaces for long :) hope this helps!!

I would only do open shelving in a space like this coffee bar away from the cooking space. I can't tell you how tired I was of cleaning the dust/grease combo off of EVERYTHING on the open shelves near the stove before we replaced them with closed cabinets.

When you painted your kitchen cabinets brown, I thought that was a mistake, but I love them. I'm amazed that you can see past the present to what you want a space to look like, and it's wonderful at the end, like a sculptor who sees the form in the marble! Ha

I am one of those people who can't figure out how things are going to be... even the best description confuses me. Imagine the horror it was for me to decide on a kitchen redo!!! I only knew that I wanted something light coloured because the kitchen is small and never gets direct sunlight and there also is a brick wall that I wanted to keep.

You did say it in tip #9, only here to help and inform. Love your videos and hope I didn’t pinch a nerve. Have a great day ❤❤

One thing to note is galvanic action when covering your appliances with another metal. This could lead to corrosion of your original stainless steel finishes. Maybe not a big deal if you want a temporary upgrade from an old appliance, but probably not something you want to do if you rent or have an expensive appliance you want to keep for a long time.

    • @saraheschweiler4939
      @saraheschweiler4939 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Thank you for mentioning galvanic action--I'd not heard of that before, but it makes a lot of sense to be cautious about the effect of one metal upon another.🤔
Now I won't be tempted (as I nearly was!😮😯😲😳🥺) to cover my refrigerator, dishwasher, & range in copper sheeting! 😏
      Whew!🥰

Appliances don’t last for decades any longer. You’re lucky to get 10 years out of any kitchen appliance nowadays-so worrying about long term damage would honestly be the very least of my worries.

    EXCELLENT!
Was that a fire smothering blanket that you hung from your pot rack? Made me think that a top ten safety summary video would be helpful.
    1. Kitchen fire suppression
    2. Kitchen/water heater/boiler or furnace carbon monoxide detectors
    3. Locating smoke detectors.
    4. GFI outlets vs. GFI circuits.
    5. Floor transitions/tripping hazards.
    6. Non-scald pressure balancing valves vs. temperature sensitive valves
    7. Knowing where your emergency shutoffs are for gas, water and electrical
    8. Water leak detection at laundry, under sink, garage, basement, water heater.
    9. Outdoor lighting.
    10. Automotive/garage/lawnmower storage and safety as well as storage of paint, turpentine, naptha, stains, etc.
    11. Fire safety for Christmas decorations like decor over working fireplaces, overloading extension chords, outlets and circuits,
Might be a great theme for a Simpli-Safe video because of their smoke/water/CO1 detection devices.

Love your changes to the kitchen, and great tips. I have always hated upper cabinets because they make the room feel closed in. I have a small pantry and plenty of storage in the lowers with roll outs for convenience. If people purge (or move to storage elsewhere) all that stuff they MAY use once a year, they will see that they could have this look too if desired.

I love everything you have done to your kitchen. What you did with that coffee bar was genius. The kitchen seems like it goes really well with your house now. I’m working on a kitchen renovation project right now. I have to keep all of my upper cabinets because I need them for storage but I am keeping all of my cabinet boxes. They are solid wood. My dad is a woodworker and he’s going to build shaker doors for me and build new drawers. He’s going to make pull out shelves for all of the lower cabinets as well. He’s going to show me how to do it and I get to help. I’m very excited to learn some woodworking because I feel like it’s totally a lost art. We’re also going to switch the hardware and the hinges to European soft close hinges. I am going to get new countertops and I’m going to do handmade tiles for the backsplash. The other thing I’m doing is with my lower peninsula and all of the cabinets that face my living room, I’m going to cover them with some kind of paneling; either bead board or fluted panels and paint it the Sam color as my cabinets. I think it will add texture and look really modern. I’m very excited and I think my kitchen will be very unique. The flooring is going to be last because I’m probably going to run out of money by the time it’s done 😅.

I love all you did. You upgraded without having to gut the kitchen. We did that too. Only room we had to gut was bathroom. Not to code. Also think out of the box. We had a small cabinet above our wall oven. We have plenty of storage elsewhere but limited counter space and the two counters face out. Just pony walls and counters making a kitchen in the large great room. No upper cabinets but many sliding drawers. Handy for the dishes. I just keep a 4 piece setting in kitchen and store others in hall cabinets. So we decided to put the microwave in the cabinet above the oven. At first we just closed it in there but old one broke and got a new nicer one with silver trim that matches our other appliances. So we (partner) took off the door and framed it in. Looks built in now. We had made a hole going through the side of the cabinet to the fridge space and screwed an electrical strip into the walll higher above outlet to be able to plug in the microwave and the stove.

Drew, my husband was talked about changing up the kitchen. I thought we decided not to do that. Huh, I sat up straight, it’s best not to talk to him about when is thinking. Kitchen is still the 1964 builder we have the same cabinets, but was painted and a new floor. We added a small bathroom, and our laundry room is off the kitchen, oh it needs work. You know I just had my 70th birthday this month. But we have always tried keep restoring and improved the house. I have never wanted to keep up with the Jones. And I like what I like. I would like to continue the French kitchen. If Joe will let me. I just want to have all colors. I and I would like like to have a pot filler, if Joe wants one! He does all the work. He is handy man. But he is as old as me. He’s getting where he can’t work as hard and hires some of it done. And we don’t hire friends. That’s a different story.

Hey Drew-all great ideas. Is your home completely renovated now? Will you be doing any other upgrades to your new home? I have sure enjoyed all to date 😊
