Love this history lesson, nice video! Thanks
Enjoyed this. Please do something like this again. The history of the terms was a great bonus.
You're so cute! I love the way you explain everything. You make it so fun and interesting.
This is one of my favorite videos from you Drew! Thank you for doing it. Teaching people about the history of design is so important not to get trapped in the thought that new is better. Trends are rooted in history and the old can be refinished and refreshed rather than tossed. Please do more of these Drew ❤
I had a pink boucle suit in the 60s. It wasn't Chanel, but it looked just like one! My mom made it for me because I was a young teenager and wanted something grown up looking for my Easter suit. I remember going with her to pick out the fabric and just loving the texture of it. The lady in the fabric store said "You'll look just like Jackie Kennedy!" I wish!
My kitties are also fans of BOUCLE upholstery fabric. They transformed the fabric on their favorite nap-time chair into BOUCLE fabric.
Haha that’s fun! My cats no longer rip my upholstery since I put down an old fashioned rag rug and have taught them to use that instead of the furniture. -Susan
I loved this type of video. I don't necessarily care about keeping up with current trends but I love learning the back story of things.
Thanks for the history lesson…loved it💙💙💙💙💙⭐️
One thing you didn't mention about Wallpaper was that during Victorian times it was made with Arsenic coining the term "death by wallpaper" it is even said to have contributed to Napoleon's death.... Great video Drew... very informative.
Oh wow!!! This is super interesting
Yes, William Morris’s greens had a ton of it I’ve read
I love hearing you talk about styles and types of products with the correct names
Terrazzo is nice with added colour and patterns. My dad use to work with terrazzo in 1950s and we had it as flooring. So cool to lie on in summer. 🌺
Love terrazzo flooring. It was huge in the 1920s Art Deco period, but goes back much further than that. Like your comment about it being cool to lie on in the summer.
You could say wood paneling in general (incl. ship lap as a variation) is Northern European while limewash, arches and zellige are Mediterranean.
😊
(Arches were greek first though. Greek culture was before Roman culture.)
Thanks for doing the research! I loved the video, Drew. Might you consider doing a video on some furniture style trends and where they originated?
Dunno about all this, but am convinced these 10 won't go out of la mode ( fashion) everneverever! 1. Your input
2. your contagious enthusiasm
3. your smile
4. your generosity
5. your work capacity
6. your honesty
7. your ability of calming down a room and sharing your method
8. Your gaieté , french word for being joyful
9. You always making me always smile at your hairobsessions and sharing curlingsessions, you are absolutely beautiful inside- out
10. Your boldness as an entrepreneur, unique
Thank you for taking up this space to entertain us. Take care, felicidades to the entire house 2 and 4 feeters, family, team,
This is just so, so sweet 🥹
I’ve lived through this brown era back when and won’t ever use it in my homes however appreciate generations below mine appreciating history. 😊
Thank you, Drew, for the "Interior Design 'Class' "! 🙂
I Appreciate your Research! All the pictures and your explanations of the Design topics, from all the time periods and places, were great!
I feel like I was a Student again! 😀
Thank You SO Much!!! 🙂M.
Love this content, who doesn’t like to learn about design?… keep them coming ❤
Just a note: you said a while back that your sofa is “performance” bouclé, perfect for upholstery. Unfortunately, fast furniture isn’t always upholstered with this kind of sturdy, stain-resistant bouclé.
I loved this video and hope you’ll do more like it!
The iconic pink suit was a copy of Chanel, made in New York by Chez Ninon.
I really enjoyed this video! Another timeless trend is terracotta!
Love this video, Drew! Been watching you (and subscribed of course) forever! So proud of you for your success, your growth, and your interest in learning and sharing all things design! 😘
We just love everything you do, Drew; however, I would love to see more of your What would Drew do?
Drew I can't get enough your gorgeous house!! Love getting glimpses of your personal home style, and more videos like this! Could you please do a video on how to make a transform newish condos to look like your old world, timeless home design? All I see I are modern condo design, but I crave an old world, historic aesthetic on a budget for my 1 bedroom condo. You're the best!
Love the education. Trends come & go but you have proven that choosing a timeless classic will never be out of style. Invest wisely in your most expensive investment-your home. Then you can have fun with your accents/accessories. You can do this often with color or fad trends & not break the bank. As always Drew, I turn to you for expert advice. I'm almost 70 yrs old & I simply can't wait for your weekly update video!! I love everything you do & say!!❤❤
Well done!
I love this type of video as it is both informative and enjoyable.
Definitely continue to do these types of videos. I am totally get endless ideas. Thanks for sharing!
Love this style video. Thanks
I think you are right on each timeless trend
Love this kind of content❤
Lets hope Brown and its different shades , never go out of fashion .
It already went out and is coming back. After the dark people want light, or just color.
It never went out of fashion for me. Always elegant and timeless.
Thanks for your history lesson. I appreciate your research, visual examples and the fast pace you presented the info. I'd love to see more videos like this one.
My opinion about "trends" is that although they are based on ideas that have been around for a very long time, the way those ideas are used is what causes them to become "dated". There's usually a period of 20-60 years after a trend peaks where it becomes associated with "old and outdated" and we all move on to something "new". After 20-60 years, the trend is often revived with a tweak that makes it look new again. The best way to avoid "dated" decor is to incorporate trendy items with traditional/antique things that aren't trends at the moment.
Yeah i dont agree with the headline "will never go out of Style" like he mentioned himself, he painted his wood panelling white, so there was a period when this wasn't in style, I don't get it. He takes elements that were modern 20-30 years ago, just like you said, and then says it's timeless because of that. But in those 20-30 years in-between noone liked it.
Not too long ago I broke my IPhone but decided to go back to my beloved Android Samsung phone.
In the madness I totes forgot my Lone Fox channel family so tonight I ended up doing a Drew-athon but you won't hear me complaining.
Loved every second of it.
Your vast knowledge of so many subjjects is very impressive... 🏆
I never tire of listening to you...
Thank you for all the informative videos.. it's the best learning method.. 📚 🥰
Well done, I loved it. Note: lime washes were also used to keep insects away, specially when applied to exterior walls.
That was fun! I would love to see a video on different design styles. I don’t mean the easy ones like mcm or farmhouse. (It’s been fun to see your house and design style. You mention Spanish Revival for the house with some Brutalist decor.) For instance, here are some confusing ones, Art Deco & Hollywood Glam, Contemporary & Traditional, Modernism & Modern & Stream-line Modern & Post-Modernism, Bauhaus Movement & Scandinavian. Now there is granmillenial and cottage core. I feel like people are making some stuff up as they go on the last two.😂 But, for me, it all gets confusing. So sometimes when someone is explaining something and throws one of these terms out, I don’t always get it.
L O L! You were talking about wood paneling, and the reason why it was used. Absolutely correct! I inherited my mom and dad‘s rent house after they passed and you got it. They’ve got the wood paneling on the walls in the major big areas, the living room, the dining room, the kitchen! So in my living room, I caulked where of course it’s come away from the wall and I stripped all the sculpting trim on the top of the ceiling or at the top. And I painted over my paneling instead of replacing it. It’s still a work in progress, but much better than that dark woodin my just a little over thousand square-foot home and it doesn’t make those rooms look so tiny!
Wood paneling was used a lot in the 60"s and 70's in cheaper construction - no need to dry wall, tape, and mud. I once pulled the paneling away in a home I was living in and found they had used newspaper for insulation - if they had used any insulation.
Lots of great info here. I always have leaned toward quality classics that stand the test of time for the "bones" of a home and it's interior elements. You can always sprinkle in a few inexpensive trendy items that are easy to change out when they lose their (temporary) luster, but it's a good investment to keep the major stuff timeless.
Personally, I like all of these classic design elements except for horizontal shiplap on walls - that is one thing I would never want in a home.
Great video and yes, I would like to see more like this.
Love it … small but important historical point Chanel was mid 20th century not mid 19th century. Truth!
I have always loved wallpaper. The walls of my entire kitchen and dining room are covered in a French wallpaper, where I found a series of patterns that complimented one another. It is over 20 years old, and I still love it. My advice is to buy the highest quality paper you can afford because it lasts for many years!! (The one in the kitchen actually looks like lime wash using muted blue tones.)
Paper was sometimes used as the final on lathe and plaster walls in bedrooms and then painted. There was usually a lap of about one inch
@@gregpendrey6711 Interesting! My husband and I were just looking at some paintable wallpaper. We are updating our master bathroom.
I love this video and hearing how far back in history these ‘trends’ go. Absolutely, I would be happy to watch any other videos that you create in this vein!!
I love washes. I adore the old look!
Absolutely LOVE this video! So informative! Great content!!
The history of design has always fascinated me so yes I would love to see more😊.
The best one yet
Drew I absolutely loved this video! I loved that you talked about the history behind each trend, it's super interesting to know all these things.
Very interesting. I love this kind of video…very informative👏
I love the informational and educational info! History is interesting, but was always taught in a boring way. I’d love more of these videos!
I loved this video….very educational. Amazing how many of these timeless materials and styles you have in your home. I didn’t know what boo- clay was but have always liked your beautiful white “ very textured” sofa. History does repeat itself and it was very interesting to hear about their ancient origins. Actually, who cares if something is “ in or out”; if we like it we should do it. 🥰
Boucle, which means "curl" in French.
Loved hearing all of this!
Can hear you just fine!
I can hear everything! Love Drew's Videos
Good Video Drew.. Thanks for sharing. ❤
Yessss I love art history with Drew!
Fantastic video. My favorite thing about all of the current “trends” is that they are timeless! 🤍
Performance Boucle in colors is lovely .
Sound works for me
I loved the history of the elements!
I’m moving to Spain and have spent time there recently and I adore your house as it reminds me of my beloved Barcelona
Thank you Drew very informative. I love so many styles mix and match I guess😁
I've seen all this stuff as a humanities major in college. Love it all!!!❤❤❤
Yeah! This videos is super interesting to watch ❤ love this format 😍 and it is so good to see that even though trends come and go, you can still enjoy some “untrendy” things and make them timeless for your home! Like I am loving checkered pattern and I want to always have it in my home ❤
I think one of the "tile" pics you showed was from the Alhambra in Spain. DREW! If you ever have the chance to go there, your designer brain will be blown away! Talk about tile and carving and arches and oh my. Arabic, Spanish and then Christian influences can all be found here. Plus the town of Granada has a Bull Ring that you can also see which has its own amazing stuff to see. I wish we'd been at the Alhambra when the gardens were in bloom but regardless, I could have spent several days wondering around looking at the walls of that place.
Yes i definitely love this!! Ive taken so many art history classes from being a art major and i think its more interesting when its ties into modern day time so that it registers better in your kind
I think it is important to consider the "trend" in the context of your space. If you have a home that is clearly mid-century, then lime wash will look out of place because it isn't in the original spirit of the design. I love lime wash, and if I had a Spanish Revival home, it would be a great choice. But I have a 1950s ranch with original details that I have to honor.
As someone who is currently in the process of bringing new life to my home, I have found a multitude of ideas Drew. I have been slowly chipping away at it for 2 yrs. I am a think outside of the box personality. I don’t like cookie cutter. You are pretty spectacular!!
Thank you for all your dedication to letting us know about these trends. It's funny how today's shiplap is yesterday's paneling.😅 Somewhere in Rialto, CA, my home from 1978 may still have paneling in the living room and hallway! Fun times!😊
Very interesting!!
You mentioned Jackie O’s famous pink suit, and while it was originally a Chanel design, the one she wore was made in America for political reasons. Since she was the First Lady, wearing a suit made outside of the US would have been a major problem both for her husband, and for herself, since she was expected to help promote American made goods as First Lady.
Loved this! More please. Bead board, different wood floor choices, and front doors !!!
loved this video!!!! more please!! thank you 🙂
Good to see you today
That cabinet on your right...
Is dreamy!! Love these videos, I love learning how things have made their way into our history. 🦊
Loveeee this kind of video!! This was so interesting and as someone who is just starting to fall in love with decorating my home this felt so helpful!
Arches are such a simple and effortless architectural detail to elevate you space! And I love that you can interpret them in both contemporary or traditional styles.
Copper, bronze, brass, stone, brick, granite, limewash, rattan, cane, ceramic, colored glass, wrought-iron, mosaic tile, crystals, carved wood and velvet.
Don’t forget marble!
Thank you Drew. Good ideas
Thanks Drew!! This was very informative….I learned a lot!!🥰
Planning to color drench my bedroom a dark muted green
Thanks for the education. I ran into you at the Rose Bowl swap meet on mother's day, and I got so tongue tied when I saw you that I forgot to tell you that your home is so beautiful. I live in Seattle and I went to the RBSW at your suggestion. Thanks, it was fun. 😊
Sound is perfect ❤
I feel like I just got out of a interior design history class. Your a great teacher! Loved this video. Very informative. And I actually learned something! 😄😁😆 ❤🙌👌
The zellige tile is from over the North African countries, it's not only from Morocco. ❤
The trend of STAYING SAFE. 😅
Excellent and entertaining vlog. Enjoyed it. Most of these items are among my favorites. A couple of materials have gotten short shrift over time, like wood paneling (which if a good quality can be beautiful) and was popularized in the 70s as a means to bring nature inside, and shiplap. I like the image of using it vertically, too. Maybe some time you can talk about making the fifth wall/ceiling more a part of the room, though I refuse to paint mine because it's so messy to do. BTW, I have started painted my baseboards the same colors as the walls and LOVE the look. I got this from Leanne Ford.
Loved this video Drew ❤
I love arches! Great video Drew! I really enjoy learning about any type of history! Bravo! Thank you so much Drew! ❤❤
Very informative and interesting. You make it so easy to learn.I can decorative the outside but i need all the help I can get inside. Getting ready to redecorate my home. This video came at the right time. Thank you.
Sound is perfect. ❤
Thanks, I appreciate all the updates
Love this content and format!
Really enjoyed this video would definitely love more of this type of content
Loved it❤❤❤thank you
A trend I've been seeing a lot including in your videos is wavy scallop shapes. Curious to know the history of that trend I think it's so cute
Love this type of video - thanks, Drew!
I just did a headboard in sage green boucle, I love it.
I’ll bet it isn’t ratty LOL 😅
The research and effort that you put forth in this video is obvious and made an excellent presentation. Thank you for taking the time to include reference pictures, extra time consuming, but really such an enhancement.
Thank you!!! Loved this 🌻.
Very interesting, please continue.
I can't stand boucle - but it's simply because I've always had pets, and it is literally impossible to keep boucle surface looking neat when they scratch and pull threads from it.
Loved this video!
It is so nice to see your smiling face today. I am in love with your shiplap ideas. The ceiling ideas and the way you placed it vertically is fantastic. I am creating my tiny home and you just answered my question to my ceiling and walls. I love it when you do these videos. Your work is exquisite, Congrats Dear Drew another success story for you
Love those type of videos! Thanks so much!
Yessss! Please more videos like that!!!
