I remember on Friday July 21, 95 it was my 11 Birthday. I remember I was upstairs in my room at Mom and Dad's and that afternoon I saw the video on CMT.
I'm a die hard country fan, 64 years old and a fan from age 7, but when I heard the Mavericks, I was blown away. I could not stop listening to them, got all of their CDs, and still want more. I love the mixture of country with the Latino sound. Hey, Johny Cash had horns on one of his records, and Bob Wills had a 16 piece band with lots of horns, so its not so unheard of.
We saw these guys live in Ocoee Florida. It rained and they played this song. I don’t know how I didn’t know about these guys earlier! Awesome band. So good. 🇺🇸🫡
They're still great, but I miss Nick Kane... Jesse is good but few players can rival Nick. Reason for him going away is pretty messed up. Google it. It's a short but good read!
Love this version. Guitarist makes such a difference. Don't get me wrong, today's, Eddie Perez is great and I love his playing, but to me, this guitarist made the song.
I love, love, love the Mavericks. Raul has a voice like none other. I loved Robert Reynolds but he was fired‐--- sad, they were a great group and the only one that is as great now is Midland, for me at least. I don't mind the change in the musicians as Raul has the voice and somehow, it always works if he's in it! 💕 💋 🌹 rosita
@@rositachadronet6187 I think there may still be legal stuff (i.e., rights, ownership, residuals, etc.) going on between the Mavericks and Robert Reynolds. I say this, as he has never been replaced and Ed Friedland has been listed as the "touring bassist" for the past 9 years.
@@michaelquillen2679 I think Robert Reynolds, (sadly) passed away. I don't remember the song, but Raul was singing and all of a sudden turned to Robert Reynolds and said, "Get your wife out here!" and out came a young Trisha Yearwood, kissed and hugged Robert and began to sing with Raul. I loved it when they had impromptu moments and I loved Trisha then--- not so much now. I don't think Robert was the same, even though he had a drug problem, when she divorced him and got with Garth Brooks. I am almost sure that he remarried but it wasn't like with Trisha.
We saw these guys live (2023) in Ocoee Florida. It rained and they played this song. I don’t know how I didn’t know about these guys earlier! Awesome band. So good. 🇺🇸🫡
This is such a beautiful song. Played even as a slow ballad or a faster version. Fabulous whatever. Try the slow ballad version to hear Raul Malo's true classic voice. You'll find peace and harmony in this song.
This song was always a big part of my life! So much emotion and everything I have lived thru.. like so many others!! Yet we find the strength to move on!!
I'm really glad I found this vid. I haven't heard this song since I was probably still in middle school or elementary school and I never forgot it. I always liked it. Hmm...why didn't I search for this before? >.>
A melody that stays in your head. I only heard this a couple of times when it came out. Yet for years and years I’ve whistled it when the weather is changing at work. A delight to hear it again in it’s full glory.
This is the music business... the most evil business (argueably) that is, has been, and ever shall be. No one knows what truly ended the Mavericks run, but my guess is, it was all about popularity.
One of my favorite songs of theirs that brings back some great memories for me. I used to hear this on the radio a lot throughout the mid 90's. Miss the days when bands with this kind of sound could get on country radio.
I was laid-up in Frankfurt Germany nursing a self inflicted sore head when i first heard this on 'American Forces Radio'.Must be 25 years ago now and still love it
Thanks for posting-- this goes straight into my playlists. Only got into him recently by accident -wished I had discovered him earlier- What can this guy NOT sing well?
Fantastic. I've seen Mavericks , a couple of months ago in Vancouver. They are amazing and Raul Malo........I don't know how many of so called rock or pop stars can do what this guys does with his voice. Just amazing. I love you guys. Music for the soul.
This song is so well written it's just amazing. The production and performance are right on the mark. And for pity's sake, the video has a Dano Longhorn doubleneck. What's not to love?
Here comes the night as dark as my soul One of the Raul and the Mavericks very best and that really is saying something.Raul's voice is made in heaven.Great band
Still listening in 2024... I still have the cassette somewhere (I think) 😄 Yes, I'm old. Speaking of old, those twins remind me of The Shining. 😆 Hmmm, if this song came out in 1995, they're almost 40 now. Heck, I'm almost 50.😀
@loverofcountry506070 I loved their mixture of old country and old rock. Raul's spannish flavored voice, Pete's cutting edge drumming, and the guitar work of Nick and Raul playing harmony. One thing that made the Mavericks sound was, since they did not have a steel guitar player, the use of horns, piano, and electric guitar two - part harmony in the place of the fiddle and steel guitar.
I saw the Mavs in Glasgow, Scotland a couple of times in the late 90s: they were absolutely superb, highly entertaining, musical. These guys ought to be millionaires.
I remember Iowa's Best Country Kix 101 radio played the song in the Summer 95. The lead singer Raul Malo sings and sounds like Roy Obison. I miss The Mavericks. What ever happened 2 them?
This song reminds me of how I feel inside since my wife left me for a younger and richer guy. Perhaps The Mavericks felt my pain and this song is what they came up with.
@loverofcountry506070 I too have "fallen" for their style and talent, lovely. Only saw and heard of them the first time here on TH-cam about a month ago...
Mavericks are what Country music should be, Dwight Yoakam would back it up. Real Mans country. And that turns Women on. Bakersfield forever. Buck Owens Forever.
I remember buying my first Mavericks album back in... '91, maybe? And driving around, listening, thinking "This guy can sound like Orbison, like Dean Martin, like Elvis, like Dwight Yoakam, and still sound entirely like himself." I knew instantly he was one in a million. One in ten million. The best voice of his generation.
Your love's a heartache That's torn me apart You've watched my heart break Right from the start You took everything you wanted And now that you are gone (Chorus 1) Here comes the rain Falling down on me I'm showered in pain Nothing remains Of what used to be

This is terrific to do a rumba to, I've danced it many times to the record, next Sat28th Feb they are coming here to Glasgow- pity it won't be a dance hall!
+Jay Igaboo ... and they were terrific! They're a really tight band no stray notes AT ALL in the entire performance. I need to keep my ear to the ground for their next gig here.
(Chorus 2) Here comes the night Dark as my soul There's no end in sight No shining light No love to hold Here comes the rain I must have been dreaming I must have been blind But I never thought you Could be so unkind Tomorrow I'll forget you But I can't forget you now
If you're still listening to this oldie but goodie today, you know good music.
Always listening to the Mavericks
Right back at cha!
I remember hearing the song in the Summer 95 and the video was on CMT in Summer 95.
What summer was it btw ?

Very underrated band the Mavericks are. Great band from a great era.

One of their best songs, in my opinion.
Oh God I miss the Mavericks...and the 90's country.
They're good
Omg me too. ❤️
@Steve Cooper yes they are
They're still great, but I miss Nick Kane...
Jesse is good but few players can rival Nick. Reason for him going away is pretty messed up. Google it. It's a short but good read!
He has a distinct voice!! Everyone now sounds like everyone else!
90s country is still so much better than today's country.
Wenn ich Raul höre bin ich im 7.Himmel
Saw these cats live many moons ago. Hands down best, tightest band I've seen.
Such a tight, awesome band. Real musicians. Incredible lyrics in all their songs.

Raul Malo, beautiful voice & Mavericks as a band is great! One of my favorites!🎶🎼🎸❤️ Love all their songs!
I think Rayl Malo was simply thebest.
And I met him and told him so.
Raul...
Incredible voice!!!❤❤❤
One of my favorite Mavericks tunes.
90s was the best decade in county
love the Mavericks and I usually wake up listening to them. Eternal gratitude ❤️

Love the Mavericks right from the start. ❤❤❤❤❤
Another great song from Kostas, who also (co)wrote Dream River for The Mavericks and Ain't that Lonely Yet for Dwight Yoakam
This song helped me through a very difficult time in my life.
This is such a beautiful song. Played even as a slow ballad or a faster version. Fabulous whatever. Try the slow ballad version to hear Raul Malo's true classic voice. You'll find peace and harmony in this song.
Probably my all time favourite song from the Mavericks. Never tire of hearing it. Very haunting melody.
Awesome song from the Mavericks.
One of a Kind Song by a One of a Kind Band. They Rock!

Helooo The mavericks ,I'm the big fans from Jakarta ❤️
I love The Mavericks! So underrated!
Aron, I think The Mavericks are under-appreciated, not under rated. We love them.
Totally agree! 😀👍
Definitely!! Love to hear them. .they are addictive!! Love Raul Malo voice!
Aron Kelley omg agreed my favorite

Greatest country band of my lifetime
Wow. This is the first time hearing this! Love it! I found it looking for another song from back years ago! Great song

Raul gives me goosebumps when he sings love him x
If I could have sex with a voice...
OMG. I remember listening to this at Bronko Bills in Philly They had such a good sound system..
Just heard the song. Great melody

The mavericks one of the best bands I was introduced to in the late 90's such a great band .
Credit to the drummer exstraordinary....A good drummer-a good band--
If country had an official alternative genre. Itd be them. They stick out way above anythinf that came out at that time in the 90's. Amazing stuff.
Greatest band ever!
Great song by a great band. I saw them in Brighton some years ago and they just blew everyone away.
This song is so well written it's just amazing. The production and performance are right on the mark. And for pity's sake, the video has a Dano Longhorn doubleneck.
What's not to love?
My all time favorite. Raul wrote it and it is killer.
Here comes the night as dark as my soul
One of the Raul and the Mavericks very best and that really is saying something.Raul's voice is made in heaven.Great band
ce groupe est superbe.... je l'adore! bisous SOPHIE
I wish that the Marvericks would get back together again! What CD's, what songs! Raul Malo is a brilliant composer!
Oh, let me catch you up. The Mavericks have reunited and Raul Malo still sings with Latino finesse and grace. Check them out!
Mavericks are a super group. What lovely beautiful happy music.
The chorus on this one just about says it all. Great song, well delivered.
Love for The mavericks from Indonesia southeast Asia
Bravo Raul, What a Voice.
Still listening in 2024...

This song is just so damn good.
Here comes the night dark as my soul …perfection
This song needed the 12 string. Sends it over the top
Just came across this song on a random radio and I absolutely love it
Discovering songwriter, Kostas Lazarides; wonderful.
I remember Iowa's Best Country Kix 101 radio played the song in the Summer 95. The lead singer Raul Malo sings and sounds like Roy Obison. I miss The Mavericks. What ever happened 2 them?
They are still touring!❤
This song reminds me of how I feel inside since my wife left me for a younger and richer guy. Perhaps The Mavericks felt my pain and this song is what they came up with.
I wish you genuine peace of mind.

MAVERICKS!!!!!! LOVE THEM!!
Powerful..singer,...very soulful....♓♓♓
Kind of like Orbison with a British flavor, pretty darn good!
Probably safe to assume they had a lot of influence from Roy
Boy! If I didn't know who this was and just turned on the radio, I'd swear it was Roy Orbison!
+Michael Werbovetz (81GMC2500) I was thinking the very same thing. I have always thought that the sound that this band has was very Roy Orbison.
That's who my dad compared them to when I had him listen to them. And he's a big Orbison fan, so that's a good thing.
Malo's a huge Orbison fan.

absolutely incredible song! love it!
What a voice!
Your love's a heartache
That's torn me apart
You've watched my heart break
Right from the start
You took everything you wanted
And now that you are gone
(Chorus 1)
Here comes the rain
Falling down on me
I'm showered in pain
Nothing remains
Of what used to be
Your love's a heartache
That's torn me apart
You've watched my heart break
Right from the start
You took everything you wanted
And now that you are gone
Here comes the rain
Falling down on me
I'm showered in pain
Nothing remains
Of what used to be
Here comes the night
Dark as my soul
There's no end in sight
No shining light
No love to hold
Here comes the rain
I must have been dreaming
I must have been blind
But I never thought you
Could be so unkind
Tomorrow I'll forget you
But I can't forget you now
Here comes the rain
Falling down on me
I'm showered in pain
Nothing remains
Of what used to be
Here comes the night
Dark as my soul
There's no end in sight
No shining light
No love to hold
Here comes the rain
Here comes the rain
Falling down on me
I'm showered in pain
Nothing remains
Of what used to be
Here comes the night
Dark as my soul
There's no end in sight
No shining light
No love to hold
Here comes the rain
We've all felt the rain at sometime in our love life !! Great song !
No, instead of rain, I feel only cold. That's much worse!
Here it comes
i love this song by the mavericks
Raul and The Mavs , # 1 in my bucket list.
awesome group! so sad that their period of success was so short!
Only seven hit singles, and no number ones.
I love the Mavericks-where are they? I miss them!
This is terrific to do a rumba to, I've danced it many times to the record, next Sat28th Feb they are coming here to Glasgow- pity it won't be a dance hall!

People this isn’t country. This is 60’s Rock and Roll.
Done in the 80’s.
I meant 90’s.
Awesome song!
still sounds so good
here comes the rain ...love this such dimple
I'm not a big country fan but this I like
They are the only country group that I like as well. I heard Crying Shame back in '94 and I was hooked. There isn't another band like them.
(Chorus 2)
Here comes the night
Dark as my soul
There's no end in sight
No shining light
No love to hold
Here comes the rain
I must have been dreaming
I must have been blind
But I never thought you
Could be so unkind
Tomorrow I'll forget you
But I can't forget you now
Holy shit, I haven't heard this song since I was a kid
love this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great band All ways
wonderful music i liked very much. thanks
The Mavs hit #22 in Billboard, 12-2-95. God bless you, friend, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a blessed rest of the week!
❤❤❤
Fantastic Group. Malo is one of the great ones, but so badly ignored.
