Personally, I've been in the hard techno genre for at least fourteen years. I have noticed the development from classic hard techno (schranz O.B.I Viper XXL Fernanda Martins etc.) to new hard techno, which is now produced by Klangkünstler and alignment, for example. I find it extremely difficult to mix classic hard techno (Schranz) with new hard techno because the track structures are completely different. the classic 2000-2010 hard techno just overdrives everything in the track With 150bpm or more ! Absolutely crazy shit, that's the reason why we call it Schranz in Germany. Then there are absolutely great new producers around the corner who combine it with a rumble bass line or a fast banging break beat and you're already wondering why the track is still off beat even though you counted it in and looked at the cdj to see if you were really on beat. This suprise me with a new challenge in terms of set preparation, because I have to make sure that all the tracks harmonize together. in the past you could throw them together somehow and you had your pace in the set. now you have to see if a track doesn't mess up your whole set. Of course the audience has to like it, but we DJ's are all artists and have our pride somewhere and at least I quickly get in a bad mood when a transition doesn't go the way I wanted it to.
If there had been a TH-camr like you in my early days, you would have saved me a lot of frustration. You explain everything so simply and understandably probs go out to you.

same here. Doing hard techno for now 2 years and often after listening to my rec it sounds like mixing pop with rap music. I have it so often that I just have to do a hard transition wich kills the flow

Timing for this video was perfect, and you crushed it. I just went and saw Adam Beyer, Carl Cox and Boris Brejcha a couple weeks ago and fell in love with techno. I got home, hopped on the decks and discovered how much fun it is to mix. I can’t believe you made that set with no prep or visuals. Thanks for sharing, I learned a lot just watching.

As a DJ who is searching for genres to expand into, this was very inspiring! I only play Early Hardcore / Millennium Hardcore and nothing else.
After seeing this video I did sort of the same as you did: I went to iTunes/Beatport and grabbed around 25 hard techno songs - tracks I never heard before besides the preview, I don't even know the artists - and I just plugged in the USB as figured out where it would take me by applying my basic knowledge of DJing.
It was absolutely lovely! Really opened my mind and sparked a big interest in mixing hard techno. Something I will surely take up as a side project and I hope for it to grow into something wild. Cheers for the vid!
I had the same thing with drum & bass! I usually only mix techno and club bangers, then a friend wanted to try a D&B set on my gear, so he plugged in his USB and now I have tonnes of high quality D&B songs on my harddrive. Just casually playing around with the songs was so refreshing!

I love techno and hard techno... When I watch hard techno djs in the mix I always imagine that they are like some kind of super hero gate keepers that keep the techno under control... Like the techno reaally wants to escape and destroy the world but the djs know just how to 'ride it' like some rodeo just on the brink of control...

I use to love techno, hard techno, hardstyle in the early 2000’s but started drifting to bass house, trap, and riddim. After this edc I solo journeyed towards Quantum Valley and Factory 93’ I fell back in love in the Techno again. Like why did I ever stop. 😭😭

Oh boy, gorgeous. It's been a long time since I've had such fun. Personally, I haven't had hard techno, -trance, etc. in my set in almost 15 years. At the moment I prefer minimal, house or deephouse.

The first set I ever spun for more than 2 people was Hard/ Industrial Techno. Since then I've been working on producing, and honing my craft. I'm so happy to see this mix I already picked up so much. Hoping a full tutorial will follow!
