Today is day 40 off walking consistently after finding your podcast. Most days I do 3 miles, a few have been less. I was waiting to post until I could report something big! A BIG weight loss or a BIG number of days walking, but this week I finally realized that every day I go out and walk, I am doing a BIG thing. Every time I choose to take another step, make another lap, or even put on my shoes to go out, it is a BIG thing. Thank you for your resources and encouragement and helping me become fitness consistent.

Great job and pleasure for you! Greetings from a "Nordic walker" in a Swedish village, starting small does it. 🙂

Sometimes, the slow walk is all I got. Glad to know that there are no such things as "junk miles" in walking for fitness. Thanks for the info and inspiration, Dave.

I appreciate your genuine sincerity about the many benefits of walking.
It changed my life. No more BP meds. No more cholesterol meds. My doctor is amazed!

YES! I have changed my health by walking also. Only one BP med now compared to 3 before starting walking and losing weight.

I'm 82. Although an accident damaged my spine, I can walk, and I know it's important to avoid sitting for long periods. Thank you for your video. It's an inspiration.

Great advise. My first walk of the day, about 20 minutes, is around sunrise. Really makes a difference, mentally, in the rest of the morning.

I stopped dead “ on my sofa “ when I saw this video!! I just had a walk with my fast walking friend last weekend and had to ask her to please slow down. She admitted she has been told she is a Fast walker! But I watched your video to the end as I have developed a “ Dead Butt Syndrome “ ( an actual thing) and hate how years of sitting too much on my job working long hrs, then retiring to only sit too much for the next 10 years!😔. You have encouraged me to get out and start a daily “ slow walking “ routine. I do swim for an hr. on Mon & Wed and do an exercise program on Fridays, “Butt” it is Not enough! I will set up a chart and try to slow walk the other 4 days of the week, weather permitting. I hate the summer heat and humidity, but will go to our seniors centre and walk the indoor track there. I know once I get started, I will feel better. Thanks again for your encouraging video!👏🏻👏🏻👩🏻‍🦰🇨🇦

Hi, my name is Pat. I have been listening to your podcast for a couple of months now. They really motivate me to walk. I have health issues, and bad back and knees. This is the first video I have watched, and it really meant a lot to me. I have worked myself up to a two mile walk, which is even sometimes hard to do,but then I just go slower. This video showed me that it's ok to do a two mile walk. I always felt like I wasn't going fast enough. So,thank you very much for this, and showing me that what I am doing is ok❤️

I'm 63 and following you from France, walking every day 5 km at a slow or quick pace since a few years. It's so relaxing and motivating watching your videos ! I agree 100% with your arguments that are all very convincing. Thank you, it's highly motivating ! By the way I speak English more or less fluently, but have always had issues understanding american people because of their accent and too quick speech for me. But I understand everything you say as you speak not too quick and beeing very easy to understand for non native speakers, so many thanks for that too !

I have trouble also understanding most speakers but this guy is amazing. I have hearing issues and have found that if I adjust my settings to slow it down to 75% it helps alot.

I enjoy your videos. I am soon 77. Have scoliosis that hurts my back and right hip. I walk slow but go for 2 miles, 1 hour. Our neighbor is all hilly, so going up steep road at first is always tough but make myself do it every time. Our wind about 24 miles an hour so I did not go this am. I have to get used to the colder weather and wind. But in the house I have a rebounder. I don’t give up exercise. Also go to trainer twice a week at the gym.

Walking is awesome, has to be in nature for me with gradients and woodland but just work with what you got outside your door and walk every day , sure it will hurt at first but wow the benefits will be lifechanging , 71 yo here and i can concur with Dave on all he says just make the time for yourself ,wear good shoes with an insert that works with your feet and dont let anything come between you and your daily walk .

I walk with purpose in the mornings. I take the dogs in the morning so the speed is variable but I keep a 3mph plus pace. My evening walks are the slow stroll. Great list as always Dave.

I only walk slowly. I do walking meditation. Walking meditation is walking slowly and paying attention INWARDS at your soles’ skin and the earth’s surface generating a pleasurable sensation when your feet lift, descend, place, and move along in air. And walking meditation if done properly, consistently, npersistently benefits you more than you can inagine in the long trrm!

Hi, Dave, glad to hear, that you consider a slow walk more meditative: sounds better than you’re walking in turtle 🐢 time… I’m sourrounded by people who are really fast or who aren’t walking at all and think I’m too busy. But I found my own way. Never been a sprinter. My 'intentional walk' is usually a round in the parc nearby, but if I ‚don’t feel ' like walking, I walk through the parc to a supermarket and shop ‚intentionally' some delicious food and prepare it at home. Thank you for the walk, love, Monika❣

    I agree with slowing down in walking : I also notice it's challenging (I usually walk at 6-8 km/h, 3.5 - 5 miles / h)
Thanks for the video, and have a great day, too! 😊

Was doing a 3.5 mile walk daily at a fast pace, which I love. Mostly on flat paths through woods and fields but since hunting season has arrived, I cannot go my usual wooded route so I have been going up and down the hills on my rural road. Then my knee started having a bit of a twinge, so I've slowed down and also cut back to 2 miles a day for the next few months. Will probably try to go to a flat walking trail a few times a week for 3.5 miles if I can.

I usually walk quickly over rough terrain.

I really needed to hear this because I walk with my dog every day and he and I can do about a 20 minute mile.. I am in Florida and it is dark when I have to walk him so sometimes I feel like I’m wasting my time. I’m not getting any sunshine. I’m just outside walking my dog for 40 minutes

Dave.....dealing with sciatica and pain in quads for last 11-12 days. After a lot of stretching and massage, beginning to feel much better. I've been walking in pool a bit. I hope to ease back into walking my 10K to 12K steps a day before too long. I'm not walking too briskly for awhile I think. Thanks.

For water to your mill, please, take a look at Thich Naht Than, Plum Village, walking meditation -ideas about how to practice meditative walking consciously, mindfully, 100% in the present. You've found it out yourself, but I think you will like this connection!

Do you ever document your blood pressure and heart rate? My BP is where it should be but my doctor is surprised that heart rate is in the 50 to 55 BPM which is apparently pretty good for someone my age. I suspect it's low because of the walking I do.
