$127k? Wow. Wait until warranty runs out or hit with depreciation to find out what these really cost. I will stick with nicely equipped Hondas, Toyota’s, etc.
lol Toyota isn’t a lesser make. Build quality really shows itself over the years between a Toyota/Lexus and a Benz. Buy a well equipped highlander. You’ll save on the outrageous maintenance costs as well as sticker price and can invest or invert that money for more life living elsewhere.
Thank you for showing how all the seats down. A lot of people making videos about SUV is at dance fail to show how the seats fold down. All of them and not just the back. This is a great video and I know that soon I will have a Mercedes GLS 580.
Tom do a Real estate video of those luxurious homes . I like the GLS-580 but I wish it had a luxury SUV look . It's a bit boring to look at . Great video . 🇨🇦🇺🇸✨✨✨
For my money the GLS450 is the pick. About $20,000 less comparably equipped (putting it very close to that decidedly less nice Suburban), nearly the same speed in everyday use from the excellent inline 6, far better real world economy, the only downside is some of the really high end optoins (e-abc, executive rear massaging seats) aren't available. If I had 100k to spend on a lux family SUV, GLS450 would be top of my list
@@homelessmillionaire1 Eh, not for me. I love a good 6 cylinder, and while the MB V8 is outstanding, so is the inline 6 they make. It ends up being nearly as quick under 70mph while also being far more efficient, lighter, and to me, differently good sounding.
0:08 Ford LTD Country Squire wagon, yep, the green one with wood paneling, followed by a two-tone blue Caprice Classic wagon. I think I took my kids in a 2004 LT Suburban 🤣

The 450 is more comparable to American SUV’s I think, and as such, the price similarities you so aptly point out questions the “frugality” of buying American vs MB or BMW. I am considering a GLS 450 not because it screams “Look at me” but because truly enjoy the driving and riding experience and consider my car first in those terms.
The load height for the cargo area appears to be quite high. While that's a good thing for most people, it's not ideal if you have dogs to get in and out. The one advantage the Suburban and Tahoe have is the availability of the excellent DuraMax Diesel.
Adaptive high beams? Does that mean Automatic High Beams or European style high beams? I couldn’t see a spare tire down below the rear shade Tom and you didn’t mention one. It did look like there was plenty of room for a spare. And have you driven a Surburban High Country to actually complete the comparison? ‘Shouldn’t be too hard to get a Chevy dealership to lend you one.
I'm away from my notes but I believe it had just been freshly shod with winter tires. I shot this back in the fall if you can't tell. Had some major audio issues that required time to deal with.
I can exclude categories (tobacco, alcohol, etc) but much is beyond my control (by design so I'm automotive brand agnostic). No idea of the ad you speak of. Keeping in mind the algorithm help to determine what you see 😉
Even on the Ai voice communication, this model is Snoby and Coy. Always love Mercedes metal interior fittings. This SUV screams "steal me" in downtown Seattle. 🤨
get the warranty for Lexus RX because they don't tell you of their timing chain issue - if you become a victim of it, get ready to spend because it requires an engine out job
Hi Tom, about your last name Voelk. I see you pronounce the oe with a hard O sound. I have a similar oe in my name and as many people near me , the oe is pronounced with a hard A sound. I'm curious, is that something that you or your ancestors may have changed as a more American way to pronounce your name ?
Seriously, Tom? $127k and not ONE square inch of WOOD VENEER Inside, only tech GIMMICKS? You call this ugly breadvan on stilts a LUXURY car? LAUGHABLE. (PS I own TWO E class Diesel 320s from 2007 annd 2008, and both have MAJESTIC WOOD door to door and all over the dash and console! AND i bought them in Oct 2016 for $10,500 AND IN April 2017 for $11,000, both with warranties AND as good as new.
Tom great job. But like the Lexus models, this is terrible-looking. Then the price makes this vehicle more unpleasant. I'll settle for the new upcoming (Chevrolet "Traverse")!!! Or Cadillac Lyric EV. This Mercedes just looks like a LEAD WEIGHT. Sorry I want to look at the bright side, but it is just not there. Tom, your work is perfection, best in the industry.
I never understood who's using paddle shifters in vehicles like this. Even other lower end practical large vehicles have them. Can't help but think they could lower cost by eliminating them. Or maybe I'm in the minority, I dunno. Would just never use them.
Helps controlling downhill speed without burning the brakes. Also, locking a gear is useful in turns. Paddles are much easier to use than the selector, also the selector often has just one "L" gear.
Hideous interior and dash. One big screen .... so lazy ... and at $130,000. I guess the positive is ... the screen isn't "bolted on" and sticking up above the dash.
Stop falling for marketing slogans… GLS has always been a stretched GLE with mechanically identical front half (similar first row interior too), goes back to the GL/ML days. While S-class is definitely not a stretched E-class! Smart ploy for Mercedes to charge more premium on a 3 row GLE.

Awesome video Tom! Thanks a lot) Gorgeouse Mercedes-Benz GLS 580!
Love the fall foliage in the running footage.
It's nice huh?

The opening comments hit home! What happened to us a society? Anyway, great looking car, inside and out. Thank you Tom!
You and Martin have done it again!
Always classy and informative
People who can afford this SUV will most likely not be worried about the gas mileage. They can afford the gas with no worries. It is a great Suv.

Thanks for the coffee money!
$127k? Wow. Wait until warranty runs out or hit with depreciation to find out what these really cost. I will stick with nicely equipped Hondas, Toyota’s, etc.

It looks surprisingly normal. I thought all the high-end brands were going for the “teen-aged girl after first trip to Hot Topic” design language.
I'd much rather pay for upgraded leather than $2000 white exterior paint - but no one is pinching pennies with these largely-leased utes.

Had a GLS 450, traded it for a 580 that I pick up today. I prefer this size to larger SUVs.
How do you like the trade up so far? Maybach in the future?
Certainly priced like a 2044 model; and they still haven't gotten that voice response system to work right
TBH, that was the one glitch we encountered. MBUX is by far the best I've used.

The MB is the standard against which other manufacturers aspire, just like this channel’s videos. The de facto professional reviewer standard setter.
