Going with a lesser make and model you might regret it, later.

Stop falling for marketing slogans… GLS has always been a stretched GLE with mechanically identical front half (similar first row interior too), goes back to the GL/ML days. While S-class is definitely not a stretched E-class! Smart ploy for Mercedes to charge more premium on a 3 row GLE.

    • @StephenFogarty2023

There’s actually quite a lot of difference between
      GLE and GLS…
      It’s not just a stretched GLE…
      Same situation with
      BMW X5 and X7
      Anyway
Customers ultimately decide what to buy & spend their $$ on

For my money the GLS450 is the pick. About $20,000 less comparably equipped (putting it very close to that decidedly less nice Suburban), nearly the same speed in everyday use from the excellent inline 6, far better real world economy, the only downside is some of the really high end optoins (e-abc, executive rear massaging seats) aren't available. If I had 100k to spend on a lux family SUV, GLS450 would be top of my list

But don't do it at all. Interest rates are horrid, nobody is financing anything. The greatest tech if that is your bag. What isn't is the leasing and purchasing climate. Even the wealthy will still pay attention. Being the car guy I am, I am telling friends shop carefully, be patient, no matter what vehicle you want. The most out of touch of auto manufacturers out there is Jeep. Who really wants an over $100,000.00 Grand Cherokee, and so on. When a decent Jeep starts at say $40,000.00, you lose your audience very quickly. Mercedes and others have that high price because it is premium to begin with. Jeep is not. Though Mercedes has amped up tech, the Mercedes pretty well holds to form.
