Got any hilarious and obscure games you would want to see in the next video? Let me know and If its selected will get a special shout out in the next vid!
difficult because so many of the hidden gems have been covered a lot. Mystery of the druids, Phantasmagoria 2, and strong bads cool game for attractive people are all to my mind funny adventure type games which aren't as well known.
King of Limbo that way you can be the second king of limbo
Discworld as a book series is perhaps the most richly written and creative fantasy series out there, it just happens to also be very silly and satirical so people don't expect the one two punch of it actually being pretty smart at times. It's like having the fun uncle tell you a story and you only realize after the story's over that it actually had some profundity and insight to it despite it having a baudy limerick or two.
It's also incredibly samey in it's tone and jokes. I've read two books and liked them, and the third was exactly the same so i put it down. Way too repetitious for my liking.
Pretty much the same reason i cant be bothered with HHGG2+, althought Dirk Gently i find is a particularly good book.
@@karry299 I mean yeah it's a continued series in the same world by the same writer. Though I can understand the frustration of not mixing it up more certainly.
It’s probably a series that’s best owing maybe one or two books of, rather than trying to collect the whole thing. It’s pretty much designed to be episodic, even if the whole series is connected.
@@karry299why do people have to read/binge all at once? Take a pause, read sth else, then go back. I mean, it's satirical fantasy genre, would be weird to have erotic thriller in next book
Dude it's a book? I gotta buy em
Discworld is absolutely amazing
my favorite line from Rincewind "The only reason i'd follow him into battle is morbid Curiosity"
'psst' it said
'not very' said Rincewind 'but I'm working on it'
Has to be one of my favourites 😂
@@Ghostgate611 "hands off my pixels"
That crap David Attenborough impression is none other than comedian, actor, and occasional national treasure Rob Brydon.
He's also the hermit on top of the tower.
@@johnpostons1886 Both games have a fairly small voice cast who double up on an enormous number of roles. Brydon isn't just those two: he's Death, Cut-Me-Own-Throat Dibbler, the Dean, Ridcully, Casanunder and roughly 50% of all the other characters!
@@Interference22 That's brilliant! Thank you for the knowledge, I shall be informing my friend post haste!
Brydon was in the first game too along with Jon Pertwee
@@Sephirothwolf The first game is how we got into it but it was just too nonsensical which obviously they referenced in the second game.
Rest in Peace, Sir Terry Pratchett and thank you for your wonderful work.
Considering the plot is about making Death popular it’s probably a good idea to bring up how Death is actually a very popular character. He’s been the main character in a few of the books and people in real life will frequently mention that when they die they hope this Death will be the one to welcome them. Someone in your darkest hour to let you know everything will be alright.
He's one of my favourites 😅
There is no justice, just us.
The author was very happy getting letters mentioning they want his death to greet them when they die.
Fun Fact: the bomb shot where the wizard is trying to deactivate the bomb, is a Lethal Weapon film reference.
Some of my fave discworld quotes and lines.
"Everyone should break the law in some small, delightful way now and again" Lord V!
" He'd go SPARE!" Knobby Knobs!
" And he said no more kings! And he took the axe, and he dragged that pompous bastard down from the throne and put him on his knees and raised the axe and did what needed to be done. And in the end, they cursed him for it." Sam Vimes to Carrot on the subject of the last king Lorenzo the Kind... who really liked the kids they say.
"A Lie will run around the world before the Truth has its boots on!
Everything Granny says ever! Wish I had a granny like her.
"Monty Python-esque?" Shame on you, "Terry Pratchett-esque!"
Well, to be fair, Eric Idle does one of the voices.
Plus the game literally lifts a couple of scenes from the Python movies. Even has an apology to the studio 😂
@@MitchManix I bought my first computer game back in 1984, for my Commodore 64, and I'm embarrassed to say that I never knew this game existed,
Eric Idle is a perfect voice for Rincewind, I really wish they would re-release these remastered like Monkey Island
they are probably in copyright heck on top of the IP/source material being very niche.
You missed the "Casanunda had a ladder in his tights" joke! :D
Fuck I love this game!
Haha 😂
Casanunda The second greatest lover .
This and The Curse of Monkey Island was peak PC gaming 😹
You sir are a man of culture and an officer and a gentleman.
yep, I do wish they would make more diskworld games tho. I would kill for some kind of open worldish diskworld game.
A Discworld game starring Eric Idle!? Shut up and take my mon-oh, wait, I have Discworld Noir, don't I...? Well, better start searching then, hadn't I?
He voiced Rincwind in two games.
@@poppers7317 I gathered that from his little misadventure! Rincewind sure has a lot of those...
14:03 : Eric Idle into Goths it appears 😂
A man of taste ❤😅
The room with the stuffed bear and pyjamas is likely the room of either Ysabell, Death's adoptive daughter, or his grandchild Susan. So not really that weird 😉
Weird outside the "normal" of Discworld.
I've played the first game (Discworld) just a few weeks ago. It's free/abandonware and runs fine on DosBox/LaunchBox. Almost wet my pants, again, close to 30 years after playing it the first time around. This and the second part shown here are timeless classics, that I believe aged very well.
My childhood right here great game and the first one. Legendary author ol' Terry Pratchett love him
Thank you for this video. Hilarious.
Nigel Planer is the narrator of many Discworld audiobooks. He's great at it.
I was a point and click adventures nerd for the longest time. Maniac Mansion was my first game ever. And Terry Pratchett is my favourite author. Don't know why I never go around to the Discworld adventures. Have to do it now, I think.
Other great comedic adventures are the Deponia and Simon the Sorcerer series.
"Anyway who is Debbie? And what exactly did she do on the Discworld?"
Rincewind is sometimes delightfully clueless.
Fun fact about Nigel Planar, he not only also played as a wizard in the Hogfather film adaptation, but he also narrated many of the Discworld audio books.
Really? Neal from The Young Ones?
"Sit down, shut up, and if you're contagious. We don't want you running around like a loony infecting everyone else." One if my favourite lines from discworld 1.
You know, it's been almost 30 years, and I STILL can't decide whether that ritual was an intentional _Beetlejuice_ reference or not.
The fact that a youtube premium ad played as soon as that damn logo flew across the screen is both hilarious and terrifying...
Ironically, Marilyn Monroe (Which is not her real name) was famously quite intelligent, she was just very, very good at playing dumb.
I like that they got the same voice actors from the Discworld clickies and used a similar art style. Really ties things together.
Yet another great video. Brought back many memories, and love your humour so well suited to this. This is such an awesome channel, and brilliantly unique 😊
Now you done this, you should do Discworld Noire which seriously is massively underrated and never seen anyone discuss it.
Aaaah i remember renting this from my local library back in the day! They completely mangled the box, cut it apart and stuffed it in some cheap plastic casette looking like one of those early vcr boxes from the 80's (like really thin and flimsy with extremely sharp ridges). Ended up finding a box-less copy with the manual for €0,50 at a flea market so i'm happy! Fond memories indeed!
Fun Fact: Chunder = Spew... You can also use the word Ralph...
I drank too much beer and had a big chunder.
I saw my neighbour naked and ralphed all over the patio.
Another fun fact, we use the word Spewin to mean upset...
Aw mate, you didn't crash the car did ya, your dad's gonna be spewin when he finds out.
Ah, good old Discworld
Both Discworld games are one of my favorites from teenage years. Love them to Death :D
Rincewind: "Do you know how to find any elves?"
Woman: "I have no idea. Why don't you ask the elves?"
Rincewind: *pauses* "Now I'm going to ask you that question again very very carefully..."
me and my brother bonded just trying to figure out some of the moon logic in this game. it holds a place in my heart just for that
Aww that's lovely 😊
Me too, except it was the first one, we'd keep coming back to it, maybe make a tiny bit of progress and then shelve it for a while until we eventually gave up and got a guide. we got a fair way through it on our own over what feels like several years
This is the type of stuff I'm here for. Well done!
As a Discworld fan I 've played "Discworld", this and even "Discworld Noir". Beware the Elver Sign! Classic stuff.
its definitly one of a kind, a shame really, one thing i loved about death in these series is that his that mate that follows you around in life till your last breathe and in the end will stick by you to the end
"Shiver me timbers! Avast improvement!" -- genuine nautical gibberish
Loved playing these back in the day i had all 3 Discworld Games.
This game was actually my introduction to discworld. I still remember so many lines from it.
I'm pretty certain that the voice of the guy who straightens the metal rods for you is based off of 'Bluebottle' from 'The Goon Show', and equally hilarious!
This brings back memories.
Brilliant and funny .
One of, if not my favourite author.
Didn't expect a "young ones" reference lol
In opposite, books are one of the most humorous things around about Discworld - all three adventure games were very, very weak.
I seem to recall the "Millennium hand and shrimp" bit being something a fan dared him to somehow work into dialogue or something? Was it a contest?
These games were totally amazing - my PC at the time didn't quite have enough RAM, so I had to memmaker to just about get this running. Takes me back :)
Oh my god! This is it! For years, I had a vague memory of this game from my childhood. How did I ever get my hands on a Discworld game as a child?
A Ps1 Demo Disc.
Oh god this brings me back to my teen years when I played this gem of a game
I remember playing the first Discworld, which did indeed suffer by comparison quality-wise as depicted at 37:15. BUUUUT, it had the distinction of including a voice performance by _Doctor Who's_ Jon Pertwee, shortly before his death.
Loved this game when it first released. Discworld noir was an absolute banger as well.
Got this game from one of my friends at school on my birthday. I wasn't able to go past Ank-Morpork. Until I got internet at home much later. (It was that long ago)
A wizard walking drunk with an orangutan stumbling into a bomb. Say no more! This game got my attention
this game was... so amazing iv been playing it and honestly its just PEAK
the david attenborough bit is a direct rip of the guide in hitchhikers guide taken from the bbc tv show in 81
Death taking a vacation in Australia, how fitting
hey mitch! do you happen to have any plans to make a galactic chad type of series but in bauldurs gate 3? i thought galatic chad was great, and would love to see him get to do a dark urge playthrough, i'm sure that evil bastard would love it lol
Hey. All I will say is i'm keeping a keen eye out for what can be done with the new modding tools :)
@MitchManix awesome! Looking forward to whatever you come up with!
i admit i never read the books but both the animated and live action movies are some of my favorits.
I remember the demo well, "bet I could rip an arm off that" never figured out how to though
God I love Discworld death. Never knew he had a stint going Australian, Terry thought of everything I ever wanted to see (or read), even before I think of it myself.
Problem with the last two videos, is I still plan to play both games xD. Always a pleasure thought, thanks for making this (will watch these after I finally finish both games)
Ah what a wonderful way to end the week! Great video Mitch, and what a strange game this was! I especially loved how your little edits and jokes made this even funnier 😂 Nostalgic with a side of laughs? Yes please! ❤
Minor Complaint... Rincewind and Albert (the footman/butter of Death) are supposed to look like twins. >.> Albert founded the Unseen University in the past, and serves Death to avoid dying. They meet in Sourcey (1988) while things were... kind of apocalyptical. ^^;
Been a fan of the young ones and Neil for far too long but this is the first I heard that Nigel Planer ever did any videogame voice work!
DSP Vile Smell was top notch jokery.
Eric Idle doing the voice
Terry Pratchett was such a talented writer.
The most Monty Python game i have ever seen
I appriciate this video on a deeply personal lvl for various reasons. Thank you Mitch.
Making a comment, giving a like.
I can only hope you cover discworld 1 and discworld noir
I remember reading the books, and this game is nearly perfect in setting the stage and characters. That is no small feat for a game that visualizes literature.
Excellent video!
Oh man, now I want to play this game...if I end up involved in madcap shenanigans combining things with other things in my quest to find my old copy of the game and also make it run I'm blaming you
Love Terry Pratchetts writing.
always knew mitch is actually RAT DEATH
I bought it when it came out and loved it. love pratchetts books in general.
I still dont know when it is Mitch and when the games is speaking.
I played this as a teen, thanks form bringen back memories :)
Hmmmm, Death of Rats sounds a bit familiar! Which is odd because he normally only says "squeak!!". I will let it slide, though, seeing as it was quite funny and well done. Your channel is great. Very funny and a good choice of games covered. We need more creators covering obscure comedy RPGs.
Pratchett's wordplay was unmatched and to this day it hasn't been topped and probably never will. Both games were great and even Noir was decent. Also, I'd very much like for someone to craft an open world game with the main hub being the great Ankh-Morpork. Or a game even set solely in the city would be nice where you as a rookie Watchman would get thrown into the crucible of the city and will need all your wits to get out alive on the other end. I realize this would be pretty much impossible with pterry's passing and any surrogate work would surely be only tarnishing the legacy but still.
MAGNIFICENT!
"Prison wallet" LOL
Wow this takes me back
This seems like a good cue to cease this whole silly conversation.
Bro. I fuckin played this. Jesus I thought this was a fever dream 😂
I remember trying out a discworld game but never figured out how to progress.
I think you'll find i played this a lot in 1996 aged 13 and my friend and I still make references to it.
Played this as a kid. Absolutely loved it.
40:43 to quote another great TH-camr with a reoccurring joke…
“No Python” *electrical zap*
I love this game, its predecessor, the series, the writer and the major voice actors. It's a dream come true. And there's a third game too. And the films. Don't forget the clickies. RIP Terry Pratchett. BTW, how is Win11 in running DOS Box?
and the playstation response was Blazing Dragons... Also Monty Python-esqe humor, but like to tossed a bit of Mel Brooks in the pot too
i did not no there was a part 2 huh i loved the first one
Discworld and Discworld 2 are some of the most hilarious adventure games I've played...
And I've played Day of the Tentacle.
Starting to wonder if I'm truly the only one who thinks day of the tentacle is a touch overhyped...just to clarify I'm not saying it's bad in any way, I do like it
@@cptsteele91 It's a funny game but I wouldn't rank it above Grim Fandango, Sam & Max Hits The Road, or The Legend of Kyrandia series.
Honestly both games are pretty funny, but I hope you'll also check out Discworld Noir. It's a bit more serious, but still a lovely dip into the Discworld that doesn't get enough love.
Watched a movie, read three books so far, and turns out there are ADVENCHA GAEMS about DISCWORLD???
My word, this is a series that keeps on giving!
Addendum: This game only takes, however. Owie.
Recently I found the old original Discworld version from my father. It even has a neon case.
You know the story is good when an hour feels like fifteen minutes.
Reaper man
"The Funniest Adventure Game You’ve Never Played"
Jokes on you, I played it. (Playstation version, with the mouse)
Ah Diskworld. God that was such a good demo just I played
Every thing discworld is great. Terry was the best.
All I know about discword is what my friend has told me about it, since he's going through the books. You know I sent him this right away
This, I love all of this! That definitely gets a Sub😊
