On your question considering the timeline, the world had already collapsed by the time of the original. Some countries tried to remain in control, but chaos was already brewing by the time the first movie starts. It was decades of war and climate disasters and the original was during the tail end of it all.

I'm hyped. Anya is a great actress. I think she will pull this role off. Really looks the part as a younger furiosa also.

    *Mad* *Max:* *Fury* *Road*
So I was watching the first 30 minutes of Fury Road. I've seen it twice, once in the theater and another time at home. I remember back in 2015, we already had a clear bootleg copy of it after two weeks from release. Man, why the hell did Fury Road not win Best Picture for 2015? I saw The Revenant and it's not as good as Fury Road.
The first 30 minutes of Fury Road moves at a kinetic pace. It's nearly balls-to-the-wall action from start to finish with very little time to have quiet moments or have a nice conversation with the characters. Hardly a dull moment in the film. It's basically like that first Predator from 1987 where the action doesn't really stop until the end credits. The action moves at a relentless pace.
    Revisiting my favorite 2015 films...
My Top 5 Favs (Written In 2015)
    1. The Force Awakens
    2. The Hateful Eight
    3. Avengers: Age of Ultron
    4. Max Max: Fury Road
    5. Jurassic World
My Top 5 Favs (Written In 2023)
    1. The Hateful Eight
    2. Mad Max: Fury Road
    3. Avengers: Age of Ultron
    4. Jurassic World
    5. The Force Awakens
What the hell was I thinking having The Force Awakens as my favorite of 2015? Now I did have a blast watching TFA in IMAX 3D. One of my greatest theater experiences ever. Then I watched it a second time in a normal theater screen. But the movie didn't age well for me once I saw it at home around March 2016. And of course, there is all this hate on the Sequel Trilogy and on Rey when this wasn't the case before The Last Jedi.
I still like TFA and it's still the best film from the ST. But that's not saying much when TLJ and TROS are so despised by SW fans. The Hateful Eight moved up to No. 1 because it's the one I've listened to the most. It's quite a divisive film similar to Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood. Some love it, some hate it or find it mid. But I love listening to the dialogue. Walton Goggins is a phenomenal actor.
I now believe Mad Max: Fury Road is one of the greatest action films ever made. True, some people didn't care for it. I know my brother didn't. He's not into that aesthetics. He's more into James Bond-like design. His least favorite decade is the 1970s because he's not into that fashion. He's also not into the hippie crowd. He's basically like Rick Dalton in Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood. I know Chris of Film Stocked also did not like Fury Road. Hey, you can't please everyone.
I'm with the majority and think Fury Road should've won Best Picture for 2015. I put Fury Road up there as one of the top 10 best action/adventure films I've seen in the theater. I remember sitting next to my girlfriend and just having a big smile on my face when we got to the final act. I wanted to headbang and do the devil sign 🤘🏻 like I was Beavis and Butt-Head. It felt like we weren't just watching a movie but a rock concert. My girlfriend and I walked out of the theater with huge smiles in our faces. We had so much fun watching it.
Fury Road is Duel (1971), The Book of Eli (2010) and then fusing it with Sega Rally and Twisted Metal. It's a chase/escape movie, a western, a dystopian film, a racing game, a demolition derby game, and Coachella/Woodstock rolled into one. Sprinkle some Dune in it. The people look like they came out of Zion in The Matrix Reloaded but all they want is water being that poor and being peasants. That's how effed up their world is.
    "Then who killed the world?"
Fury Road is one of the coolest movies ever made up there with Goodfellas and True Romance. I can imagine punk rockers, metal heads, drug addicts, goth folks, and tatted thugs loving that movie too. It's so beautifully shot too. It's almost like a landscape painting Bob Ross made. The scene with all the tornadoes was so epic. The first 30 minutes of Fury Road is better than most action films last 30 minutes. While it didn't win Best Picture, it still won 6 Academy Awards. Well deserved.
Fury Road is up there with all the greatest action films like Predator, Die Hard, and Terminator 2. It's that f*cking great! The movie kicks so much ass even 8.5 years later. Perhaps Furiosa will never be as good as Fury Road because Fury Road is a flawless Mad Max movie. But I'll still be there to watch Furiosa because there aren't a lot of franchises similar to Mad Max.
Some of my favorite action/adventure films I've seen in the theater (in chronological order)...
    Top Gun (1986)
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989)
    Jurassic Park (1993)
    Face/Off (1997)
    Revenge of the Sith (2005)
    The Dark Knight (2008)
Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2011)
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
    Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
    Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
    Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
    Most anticipated films/TV series for 2024 -
    1. House of the Dragon Season 2
    2. Gladiator 2 (might be delayed until 2025)
    3. Deadpool 3
    4. Dune: Part II
    5. Joker: Folie à Deux
    6. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
    7. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire
    8. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
    9. Alto Knights (formerly Wise Guys)
    10. Agatha: Darkhold Diaries
    11. The Acolyte
    12. Beetlejuice 2
    13. Untitled Karate Kid Film
    14. Ghostbusters: The Frozen Empire
    15. Kung Fu Panda 4
    16. Sonic the Hedgehog 3
    17. The Garfield Movie
    18. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley
    19. Bad Boys 4
    20. Twisters
I never got into The Last Airbender, so I didn't list it and never saw Daredevil when it was on Netflix or the Ben Affleck one, so Daredevil: Born Again isn't on my radar. Venom 3, Madame Web, Echo, Mean Girls, Kraven the Hunter, The Skeleton Crew, and Alien: Romulus doesn't interest me either. I'll check them out if the reviews are good.
My Top 5 Favorites From 2023
    1. Loki S2 (not as good as S1 but still love it!)
    2. Air
    3. BlackBerry
    4. Oppenheimer
    5. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
Take note, I haven't seen Poor Things and The Holdovers yet. They both have high scores on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb. Heck, I haven't even seen Napoleon yet. Then I read Disney doesn't want to release The Bikeriders. I did see Killers of the Flower Moon and Priscilla on the same day. While I think they're both good films, neither one would make my top 5 favorites of this year.
Maybe it's a NY bias, but Killers of the Flower Moon is regarded the best film of 2023 according to the New York Times and The New Yorker? I think the movie is well made but I actually prefer Oppenheimer more and I'm a bigger Scorsese fan than Nolan fan. I wouldn't be mad if Flower Moon won Best Pic but I rank it between the 10-12 range among my Scorsese favorites. Still better than Gangs of New York. Cameron Diaz was a complete miscast for that film.
I enjoyed Gen V and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon but I wouldn't put either of them in my top 10 of this year. I haven't been into TWD since 2016 which is why the spinoff show with Rick and Michonne next year doesn't interest me. Gen V is CW The Boys meets Saved By The Bell: The College Years. Some good stuff but I still prefer the flagship series. Most spinoffs are extra dressing we don't need or never asked for. If they did a spinoff to Stranger Things and Cobra Kai, I probably wouldn't watch it. I'll watch Agatha because I always liked Kathryn Hahn.
    *Godzilla* *Minus* *One*
There's a great chance if I see Godzilla Minus One, it will make my top 5 for 2023. But since it's a foreign film with subtitles, I probably wouldn't put it above Loki S2 and Air since I tend to listen to my movies and shows at home while I surf the web. I'm such a huge Michael Jordan fan and Loki fan. I would love it if -1 shocks the Oscars and wins Best Pic. I've read it's like a Godzilla film if it was directed by Steven Spielberg.
    Godzilla Minus One
    Rotten Tomatoes: 96%
IMDb: 8.4 (went up from 7.9)
All the highest grossing Godzilla movies are the American ones. The highest grossing for a Japanese Godzilla movie is Shin Godzilla in 2016 at $78M worldwide. The 1998 Zilla still made more at $379M. Minus One should cross $100M easily with it's shoestring budget of $15M. I think it will cross $200M. Not bad for a foreign film with subtitles.
They say Godzilla is the oldest running movie franchise. That's not true. King Kong is older by 21 years. The difference is Kong doesn't have a movie every decade like Godzilla and James Bond do. Older than King Kong is Sherlock Holmes. There was a Sherlock movie back in 1914 and a minute long one back in 1900.
I would love if a Godzilla movie wins an Academy Award for Best Picture. Shock the world! Be such a boon for the Godzilla/kaiju community. First ever Japanese film to win Best Pic. Then the James Bond franchise should try to aim for one. Make a truly, truly great Bond film that can rank up there with The Godfather I and II. James Bond and Godzilla have been around 61 to 69 years. Bout damn time they start winning Oscars.

I’m gonna be honest, I’ve never had the love most people have had for the Mad Max franchise. It’s a great franchise, and I do think Road Warrior and Fury Road specifically are incredibly well made, but it’s not personally a franchise I go bonkers for or have an attachment to. So I’m not really hyped or excited for this.
Regardless, as long as this is another good entry into the franchise, no reason for me to complain 👌

I grew up in 2000 and 2001 and I saw Original Mad Max Trilogy quite a few times on TV. Back then The World Is Not Enough (1999) was newest Bond movie. I was waiting for new Mad Max movie and in 2015 the wait was over, I believe I saw Fury Road in theaters, I was 26 years old in 2015. I also saw Blade Runner 2049 (2017) for theaters and 1st Blade Runner on TV in those 2 years I was talking about 2000 and 2001. I'm looking forward to see Furiosa (2024).

My only concerns are that I worry that the film may be more reliant on CGI than practical effects this time around…
A big part of what makes these films so good and why many fans and audiences love them so much is because of the practical action!

    Hello Mr. Sean Chandler,
You should know that this comes out the same day as "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes." I smell a meme here as both movies were shot in Australia. Both are post apocalyptic action adventures where the hero goes on a quest to find meaning or a purpose. In Furiosa's case, it's to go home. In Noa's case it's to find his past to unlock the future in ""Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes." Both are recent entries in long running franchises that somehow managed to successfully reinvent themselves. Would you be willing to see them both on opening day?

@@GhoulReviews Yes that might happen. There is also a new "Garfield" movie coming out the same day as well. So, it's not just two blockbuster movies that are going to be vying for attention, it will be an animated family film vs two post-apocalyptic action-adventure films. All three films are based on iconic franchises that still thrill us. I think that you agree that these films look amazing & deserve to be successful. What do you think will happen to the release dates & if they don't change release dates, would you be willing to see both "Apes" & Furiosa" on opening weekend?

The trailer, that was uninspiring to say the least! From all evidence, they didn't find a "young" Charlize Theron to play the part. 😥
Mad Max - Fury Road (2015) was great, but I have little hope to could do better or even, the same level of quality.

Fury Road was cool but never understood the overwhelming hype for it. This one looks like 90% green screen with shoddy CGI 🤷‍♂

Because an overwhelming amount of the stunts are done practically and they actually built the vehicles you see in the movie. Talking about Fury Road here
