indeed...my first NEW car was a 1974 celica gt for $4.2k, gave it to my wife and bought another new car, 1977 280Z for $7.2k. even with inflation added they're nowhere near as expenses as roughly comparable cars today. hell. even my 2013 taco try off-road was $32k new.
I bought a RAM 1500 classic two-door in 2019 it’s white. And it doesn’t have all the fancy stuff but it’s enough for me. But when you offer a four-wheel-drive option, that is not a bare-bones model. And I happen to like my door and I despise four doors. I grew up in an error when trucks only had two doors. And if you look at movies done decades ago, if there’s a pick up, it’s two door. Classic!
@@Cruel_Shoes. We had a four door truck in the seventies a dodge that was old as hell when I first saw it in 1977 At Mountain Home AFB. We called it a six pack and it ran and ran and ran. Tank of gas and a quart of oil. Ps. Just looked it up it’s a 1969 w200
@@juleswins3 UAW workers are responsible for the crap they are producing. Poor build quality where nuts arent torqued etc is the fault of the line worker. And that why we need a National Right to Work law now.
I just bought a RAM 1500 truck 4 door from my friend who I trust: 1 car payment of $2,500. I have no more car payments. When I told the RAM dealer I could put 20% down on the $10,000 truck they had they never told me the price cost breakdown. They just came back and said “OK you are all set $2000 down and $429 a month for 48 months.” When I asked for a breakdown and interest rate I discovered they had me pegged at 23% interest with $3-4,000 in “Accessory FEES”-like nitrogen air in the tires, window etching on the windshield on and on. Let them eat grass if go bankrupt
They won’t go bankrupt, the government won’t allow it. Simply put if there’s ever another major industrial war they’ll want that industrial capacity converted for war material…just like WW2.
Same story with me man. Went and looked at a ram and found they had 4k of add-ons. I told the kid.....get me a red pen quick lol. Im not paying 4k for nitro, gps and a protection plan......"oh idk if we can do that...." i walked....
Not only are the prices ridiculous, the service is horrible.I have a 22 Ram 2500 with transmission issues that I've been trying to get resolved for a year and a half. I told them I would beat my cancer before they fixed my truck. I've beaten cancer, the truck isn't fixed yet. I'm thankful for the healing of my cancer. Too bad Stellantis couldn't care less. Brutal.
Just picked up an old gmt800 2002 suburban that needed an engine. After I installed another engine, serviced all fluids, filters, and sealed all leaks and a couple of cosmetic issues, I'm in it for $6k. It drives like a top and will outlast all those new Stellantis products currently on the shelf. Fraction of the cost of these $80k wagoneers and much greater reliability.
Smart man. Buy a product that is tried and true to last 200K miles+. So you spend another ~$2k to replace another engine in another 200K miles from now. Still better than $60K and it breaks down just after 100K miles like all new vehicles are designed to do now. Tesla is also a joke in the long run.
spot on ive got a 2005 4runner that I nremoved the old tranny and block from, Installed new both changed out some stuff in front and back and into the project for 8,000 , now at zero miles and far better than having a massive car payment.
Still have my 2004 Ranger 4.0 XLT 4x4 with 160K miles on it. Just upgraded the entire suspension, exhaust and CATS which were $$$. Haven't had car payment since the end of 2008 and don't intend to ever have one again. Ranger motors and trans last for 300K miles if you change oil and do your required main. Gonna get it painted Gator Orange and put new tires on it. About 5K in $ invested for another 150K miles and I do all my own work. NOT going to have truck payment more than my house payment.
You know they’re overpriced when they want you to have lean gap insurance on a brand new vehicle they’re over inflated why are they not in court in New York City?
@@bansheezs No, a $1400 government hand-out check is not going to sway me into paying 50-100% markups over MSRP for a new vehicle. Greedy dealerships are getting now what they bought back then.
@@sportscardude It swayed a lot of people who can't do basic math. I wouldn't ever buy them either but for some people they see that government check and they want their pickup regardless of the future.
It's ALWAYS someone else's fault. The C-suite folks just ride that gravy train until the wheels fall off. They don't give a damn about the little guy that loses a job in the meantime. They collect their green and when it's time to bail they get a golden parachute. That's what is going on.
Like the United executives when that airline went bankrupt, they'll tell the judge they need executive bonuses to keep the company's management talent. And they'll get them. The managerial class across the West is wholly corrupt and fraudulent, driving company after company into the ground and walking off with the cash: Stellantis, Boeing, GE, Volkswagen, etc.
My friend bought a 2024 dodge ram rebel with the diesel. It has less than 5k miles and has been back in the service dept for over a month. He's likely going to lemon law the vehicle. He had traded in his 2022 ram cummins due to the dealer being unable to fix that truck also. Dodge is putting out straight JUNK vehicles.
@@dapenaconstructionco he could give it back under lemon law. Chrysler corporate involved now and paying his last two $1500 payments, lots of apologies and a new ECU and they think they have the issue resolved. I think he’s probably going to keep it now. Didn’t learn.
He picked up the truck yesterday after 5 weeks in the shop, and no joke, it went into limp mode on his way home and had to be towed back to Dodge. A 2024 Dodge Ram 2500 Rebel with the 6.7. Has less than 5k miles.
Unemployment is up, salaries are down. Cost of living is WAY up! My vehicles are paid for. There is NO WAY I would consider getting a new overpriced vehicle. Not now, not for a long time.
Yep. I just sold my wrangler before this whole market collapses. I’m now driving my 2000 ram waiting till it bottoms out. Then I’ll think about getting a newer vehicle again
I am so glad I kept my 9th and 10th Gen F150's! 10th gen has over 380k original 5.4 engine and still going strong. My 9th Gen has been completely Restored inside and out.
Let them ALL sit on the lots for another 365 days. Highest priced vehicle should be $45k-55k. The rest should all be under $40k. I'm not cheap, it's just facts. $70,000 is MSRP for Mercedes E class. Not a GM, Ford or Chrysler product. A car payment should ONLY account for 10%-15% of net monthly income (take home after taxes, insurance, etc.) . To afford a $70,000 vehicle a person would have to make WELL over $65/hr AFTER paying $14,000 as down payment. ($1,000/month) To afford $55,000 A person would need to make WELL over $40/hr , that's AFTER paying $11,000 down payment ($740/month)😮 The average hourly wage in the United States is $29/hour. Over 50% of households in USA have less than $75k total income. Only 37% of households in USA have over $100k total income. 13% of Households in USA have between $75k-$100k total income. 63% of households in the USA don't even come close to being able to purchase these vehicles. Now to add the fact that these vehicles that they are wanting these prices for are struggling to make it to 80,000-100,000 miles without having serious mechanical problems is simply pathetic. I've been working on vehicles for the last 40 years, I've seen the drastic and utterly pathetic decline in quality of product. I'm not cheap I just want to receive a quality product for what I will be paying for. The Auto Industry is not even in the same time zone much less the same ballpark as to giving a quality vehicle worth the money asked. Yes, most definitely, they are asking $40k-$50 more than what these vehicles are worth.
People going into debt on a 60k/70k/80k HEAVILY depreciating asset at 8% interest is absolutely insane. Not a snowball's chance in hell that's worth it to anyone.
If you have a rock solid reliable car that is paid for or almost paid for you would do well to hang on to it and keep it serviced like your life depended on it.
My whole career is in this business and I was at the top in certain circles. I am giving very valid and truthful advice. Do not buy anything new right now. Everything is way overpriced and very poor quality. The general public doesn't understand the repair side of that 100,000 vehicle. First, you lose half the second you buy and then it's so low quality that recalls are flying and more are coming. The engineers are so incompetent that they designed them to make simple repairs a major operation. I have circumstances right now that the cab and bodies of vehicles have to come off to change a 20 dollar part! So a 200 dollar job is now 4000! Every manufacturer is building junk.
@AR7271 definitely before 2020, but the real crap started in the 2000 up range. They just got more electronic controlled features that also evolved to track your every movement and store it in your computer and send it to the company . Up through those years, they all made good and bad vehicles. I personally have my 1990 GMC stepside that is still original and perfect driving condition. I have also had my 2007 Ford focus since almost new now, and it's been very reliable. I am currently building the engine for my 2013 Charger, and the way they did things is really stupid . So the newer, the more they went downhill. Now, they are all junk. I have the credentials behind me to be right. Stellantis has been doing unscrupulous things, and it's catching up to them. Their woke ceo destroyed them. All those 100,000 plus vehicles may look good at purchase, but they are severely unengineered and poorly built. My charger is exactly what those high dollar cars are but built over 11 years ago when they still cared. The same reason that I am rebuilding my hemi over still exists . It's a poorly engineered part of them that is not going to be an issue ever again. That famous hemi tick is the poorly designed valvetrain. It causes engine failure. They all have it!!!! Lol. I can go on forever, sorry
@tomseddio1995 I have a 20' RAM 1500 LTD Hemi 5.7 with E-Torque. I'm the original owner, she has 45,600 miles. I LOVE my truck! I've researched the Hemi tick extensively & it sounds like the solution other than not idling the engine and possibly disengaging the MDS system, which I do by manually changing the gears to 8th gear, is changing put the stock oil pump for the Hellcat high volume oil pump that supposedly fits perfectly on the 5.7? I asked the service rep last time at the dealer about the pump and he said he doubts they would be allowed to do this oil pump swap & it would void the warranty. What's your thoughts on this, if any? Thanks!
Yes! I have a 91 Dodge diesel and a 96 jeep grand Cherokee. Both are 300k + vehicles that still work very good. Repair parts are cheap and repairs are done at home. New truck would be nice but so is my savings accounts and investments.
Whats funny about for Chrysler, many years ago they had a Rampage Concept that was very close to what the Marverick is now. They had their chance and lost it.
@richunggoy3960 yeah ford figured they would milk that honey pot and made the maverick unaffordable as well for what you get. Low 20k was a great deal, mid 30k isn't worth my money.
GM has a "Maverick" in Mexico and to the south and the far east. They won't bring them here because the profit on these 70k+ trucks keep the investors happy. In most cases those investors are you and me via our pension/401k plans. Dog chasing its tail. On a side note, GM has a whole line up of plug-in hybrids in China that Mary won't bring here.
I’ll be honest, I’m happy with my rusty 94’ danger ranger. It gets me from point A to point B. To be honest, I cycle to work twice a week and honestly don’t need a car at all if I chose to since it’s a 11 mile, one way, commute.
the Hornet isn't selling because of price. I see commercials showing it starts at 22,000 but my local dealer has them from 32,000 up to almost 40K. No cheaper models. For 32K you can buy a nice Honda or Toyota and get a better car that holds its value much better.
Well actually Hornets are HORRIBLE vehicles. They sent to car reviewers. The performance was pathetic. In more than one review video I watched the vehicle failed to even run so it was hauled away. Do you really want to put your family in that?
@@brianboom3105 did you not read my comment ? I didn't recommend a Hornet, I said the opposite. I literally said get a Honda or Toyota for the same or less money.

The depreciation on the Wagoneers is crazy. I delivered a 2022 Wagoneer II to one of my used car dealers. 21,000 miles on the clock. Original MSRP was $91,000. Dealer has it listed for $47,000.
Yup. For the first time I passed on a Jeep Wrangler and bought myself a forerunner. I absolutely could not be happier. I don’t know why I was stuck in the Jeep cult for so long. Never going back.
My Jeep wrangler was great for 11 years, 2013 Sahara… out of nowhere it’s going into limp mode, 2 years of intermittent problems and it doesn’t go away. The kicker is I bought a lifetime warranty when I bought the truck and the dealer should repair the problem. 2 years later and I’m still dealing with the same problem, probably a vehicle speed sensor or electrical problem, which is covered under warranty. I took it in last week, payed 1500 to fix the problem and today the same problem happened again. They missed the real problem and charged me for something else I could have replaced or fixed myself. They’re milking me dry and denying their obligation to fix it. It’s been a great truck and never had problems until recent years, but their dealership makes me want to sell it and get something new. My dad just bought a TRD pro 4Runner 2024 and now I want something Toyota. Something dependable with a good dealership to back it.
@wilhoroshak6253 there's no way in hell I'd pay the price for ANY new Jeep nowdays. The 2nd most unreliable brand as of 2023, trailing only Mercedes-Benz.
I purchased a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. Purchased with a warranty company called “AUL Warranty”. Absolutely biggest mistake of my life. The Jeep kept giving issues since I bought it, overheating all the time, going into limp mode on steep inclines and passes. AUL warranty kept denying my Jeep services and it was a back and forth between and the dealership I purchased it from. I kept having to come out of pocket for these major expenses and it was just one thing after the next with that piece of sh*t box. Fell behind behind on payments and went into Repo. On my soul, I’ll never purchased another Dodge/Ram/Chrysler/Fiat product . It’s a big game with them , they chew you up and spit you out. Lesson learned.
Called a Chevy Dealer for a new 3500 one ton. They are only offering 5.9 percent for 84 months. No discounts and they offered me 6900.00 for my 2017 Ram 1500 for a trade in. Hell no. I will continue to wait.
I’m a truck driver here in Detroit. I’m on the road all day and I have a great view of the car market on the road. I used to see new Rams everywhere especially 10-13 years ago where it seemed every new truck on the road was a Ram. I seen a new Ram maybe once a month. It’s CRAZY!!! I see a couple new Silverados a day and dozens of new F150’s a day.
I baught a charcoal grey 2007 Honda Pilot EX-L with 78k miles from original owner for $5500 in great condition. Needed new tires and windshield has a 6inch crack. Pretty happy with it. Passed smog super clean.
JEEP fanatic here. I've had 8 CJ,YJ,TJs. Stellantis has completely destroyed their Wrangler sales by raising the price 58% up market. They could sell all the Wranglers they make..if they'd come back down to a reasonable price. I can't fathom how Tavares even has a job..nevermind..his $38,000,000 pay??? How do you destroy your most profitable divisions of Stellantis..blame ANYONE else you can think of..and get a BONUS for it..SMMFH???????
Build quality is absolute garbage. There are a half dozen or more Wranglers & Gladiators tooling around here. I've got a now 26 year old Toyota 4 Runner I bought new. It'll still be around when all those Jeeps are gone.
In 2019 I bought a loaded Limited, 4wd, panoramic roof, ram box, tow pack, power steps, 22" rims, 12" screen, air ride, trainler brake, heated/vented seats, every possible option minus the eTorque and it had the 5.7 and the sticker was $63. Paying $60k for a v6 is madness.
There's an old saying that goes "Something is only worth what someone will pay you for it." Sure, you can price things like these trucks and SUV's at $80k+ and boast about all the "features," but if no one is buying them it doesn't matter.
Not only can people not afford a new car/truck payment, they can't afford to add the expense of new vehicle insurance each month. Car insurance is outrageous for a new vehicle.
My local Dodge/Jeep dealer has more vehicles parked on the grass than they have parked on the asphalt. I am waiting for 40-50% off of sticker, and I might consider buying one of these POS's at that price. I remeber a time back in the early 1990's when a Jeep Cherokee was a nice, affordable 4 door vehicle, and the mini vans were a vehicle that most familys could afford. Stelantis deserves everything that they have coming.

I think the government is more to blame. If these companies could make cheap, reliable gas powered vehicles that sell like hot cakes for a low price they would. Getting from not selling any EVs to having a production line of all EVs that meet the needs of all customers and are a viable replacemet for all gas powered vehicles is an investment that takes a lot of money that niether the customers or the manufacturers have.
As I said before, it's free enterprise. Sell your stuff for the most money you can get or someone else will. They were selling stupid expensive vehicles for a few years and they stopped selling cheaper ones. Now the costumers can't or will not pay these prices.

We buy several trucks a year for a business and I deal with all of the American "branded" manufacturers. Even at stupid prices, if they can't get their quality control in check, we will be keeping and repairing our old trucks for much longer. The downtime for a new truck under manufacter's warranty sitting at a dealership waiting on repair and parts has the potential to cost our company significantly more than the value of the truck.
Screw the dealerships !! They didn't mind when they were screwing over their customers with these prices. Also I don't care if the autoworkers get laid off !! It was only a year ago they all went on strike because they wanted more money...well that money has dried up and so probably have their jobs when production is going to be cut.

As a retired guy I recall when American car companies built cars that Americans, families in particular, could afford. Family needs drove the purchasing habits. Room for big families, economy for smaller incomes, pick-ups for the self employed. Today it's about big profit per vehicle sold. Take what we give you. Stalantis being foreign owned is a huge draw back for me even beyound the reputation Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth had when I was working.
When did the big 3 build cars Americans could afford? I learned my lesson watching people buy junk all through the 80’s. They never stopped borrowing. The cars fell apart by 60k miles. They never could keep a paid off car without having big repair bills. I started buying Japanese cars and soon I was paying cash for cars which I kept for a decade each with nearly no repairs instead. That’s affordable, bro.

None of these trucks are working trucks. They need to be bare bones to get to point A to point B for maximum profit. Every penny he made went either back into his business, bills, and raising five kids with wife. No sane working man would go into debt for a 80k plus truck that's a down payment for a decent house. These CEO's are drunks not the alcoholic ones if you get my meaning.
CEO's are drunk but so are buyers for going along so long, including divorce with split custody, 2 households to support per family, psychologists needed for damaged kids, feckless leaders, government regulations, higher taxes to support corruption....shall I go on?
@@drksilenc Mechanical locks and windows have nothing to do with crash ratings. You need the same equipment minus the motors for manual. Just like a manual transmission costs more now, that's ridiculous considering the manual was the poor man's vehicle back when I first started driving.
The train is so easy to follow. At the beginning of covid, prices dropped like crazy b/c nobody knew what was going to happen. Then everyone started buying the cars. Then the US govt stopped requiring student loan payments and dropped interest rates to the bottom of the barrel. Then the US govt started giving out stimulus checks. All three of those factors meant that people had money for downpayments and also had extra budget to spend on payments. The dealers also couldn't get inventory b/c there was a major supply issue for parts. All of this caused demand to skyrocket and supply to drop through the floor. This was great for about a year, but as things have normalized, the car manufacturers have not adjusted. They've kept the prices they had during the peak of covid. People are making those student loan payments again, they can't afford the $500 increase in monthly payments that they once could. Interest rates are higher now so that makes the payments even higher. No more stimulus money so down payments aren't happening either. And anyone who purchased a vehicle(especially used) in 2021 is no so upside down on that vehicle that if they want something new, they're going to be rolling 10k or more of negative equity into the new one. All of this has created a perfect storm that means the US auto market will completely crash. The auto makers and the dealers were short sighted and greedy and now they're going to have to deal with the consequences.
Well put. What I hate though is that most car manufacturers are going to be bailed out by the fed just like 08’, 09’, and 10’. Money will be printed, the national debt will go up, and greedy companies that deserve to fail won’t. Ram is a great looking truck but I wouldn’t car in the least if they ceased to exist.
I posted this before but it still offers insight on where the Ram market is going. I bought a new ‘23 Ram Big Horn Hemi Equip Gr-1 on 3-22-24 with a MSRP of $61k for $49,329 OTD. 26% below msrp, I visited 4 dealers in Indiana and Michigan. Bought near Kalamazoo MI. I did use the 1st Responder and Employee Choice incentive from my cousin who works on the Jeep line in Toledo. I’ve been looking since September of 23 and watching Brandon and the Car Edge channel was helpful! 👏👏👏👏
I'm just going to keep driving my 2001 Chevy camaro z28 with the 6 speed manual transmission. It runs and drives better than most brand new cars on the road. I've never had any issues with it. I just change the oil and filter every 3k miles and only use full synthetic oil. I change my brake fluid, clutch fluid etc etc when I see it starting to get a bit dirty. Every time I drive the car I get multiple offers to buy it.
Self employed all my life and the last new truck I could afford was a Dodge 2500 Cummins in 2006 for $30k. That won't even buy you a stripped mini truck today. Progress!!
I hope they all go under. Absolute insanity level greed on their asking prices. As one person pointed out, you eventually run out of stupid people to pay 3 times what a vehicle is worth.
I remember the same thing happening to Chrysler in the late seventies. The factories were parking lots for their new cars that they couldn’t give away. Wouldn’t be surprised to see them fade into oblivion.
ruin dodge and chrysler (and aybe ram) then partner with the chinese so they can sell theyr BYD EV's in the US.. it will make the CEO look like a saviour because affordable EV' sedans and SUV's will come tothe US market.... and will beat biden and trump's china tariffs.. Still running my 07 Ram 2500. I put $20k into it, has 650 hp w/1400 ftlbs, a stage 4 transmission, compound turbos, lots of other stuff, just hit 225k miles. To top it off, she's paid off!!! Had to add fender flares to cover the rust, but I'll put on a new bed before I buy a new truck.
@JimAllen-Persona It's not fair to blame the government. These trucks are just big luxury vehicles now. This is because the consumer wanted this. It just so happens that the consumer can no longer afford Bentley luxury on a Honda budget.
@JimAllen-Persona You're forgetting electronic stability control, blind spot monitoring and backup cameras. Next on the list is automatic braking, by 2029 if I remember correctly.
I rented a 2024 dodge Hornet RT for a weekend, not a bad little car. Thought to myself maybe ill pick one up as a daily run around town car so i started looking online.... Stelantis, Jeep GM and Ford all need to go out of business. Their prices are just absolutely ridiculous. These vehicles are way more than my first house
Its simple fact that people are struggling and the first thing that is effected is large purchases like cars that are non essential. Economy is slowing due to high finance costs. After job cuts start then house prices will follow.
Where I live, they are now renting property to put these trucks and jeeps, and I also went to another town 8 miles away and are putting them on more lots in this town also...two dealerships now and mostly NEW.
Do these manufacturers fail to do any market research? What percentage of the market can afford a $100K car or truck? They should have been aware of the need to build affordable cars and trucks and their failure to do so should get the lot fired.
I buy cheap dailies and moderate trucks. Considering the truck is a work horse only! A manual versa is around 17K, a 4wd full sized truck is at least 40-50K minimum.
In rural Nova Scotia, the RAMA dealer has a "full line of trucks" planted in the Frunkin' cornfield BESIDE the lot. And they're mowing down another cornrow now...
in case you missed the news dealership are asking chrysler minivans customers that come in for maintenance if they agree to receive a sum of money in exchange for immediate termination of their warranties, BYD officials have also been seen at Chrysler factory touring the facilities, those minivans are worth 0 dollars Chrysler is not long before either closure or being sold to China, oh yeah forgot they sent letters to chrysler employees to offer them bonuses if they leave...funny that me in a tiny european country knows insider info for a brand that isn't even sold here anymore that's the internet for you
Not sure why China hasn't breached the car market like so many other domestic markets. But I too figure it's just a matter of time. We be 3rd world, now.
I work at the Chrysler Brampton Assembly Plant in Ontario, Canada. We are down for two years to change production over to EV and hybrid vehicles. It is true that Chinese BYD executives toured our Windsor and Brampton plants. Looks like they want to come into Canada and use it as a launch pad into the US. We have been sold so many times: Mercedes, Cerberus, FCA...who knows anymore, I lost count. Here we go again! If this happens, I am sure the new Chinese masters will be nice for a few years to avoid stirring sh*t, but then they will surely resort to their default treacherous ways and abuse the employees. Good thing, by that time I should be retired.
In Canada, with a current exchange on the 53K Wagoneer, it would cost $73K. Is it any wonder that with each interaction of the Canadian Carbon tax, automobiles get further and further out of reach? When I bought my JK in 2013, it was $39K, and it is now paid off. I get calls from time to time from Jeep asking if I want to trade it in, but I can't justify paying more on a vehicle than what I pay for rent.
I drive a 2012 Ram 1500 Tradesman Crewcab 4x4 with the 4.7 liter V-8 gas engine and the RamBox set-up. (why this is not available on all pickups still baffles me). I bought it new for exactly $30,100. I just crossed over 193,000 miles. Last year, before a trip from Texas to Buffalo New York to pick up a motorcycle, I sent it to my mechanic with instructions to repair “anything he found”. He found a pinhole leak in the radiator which was replaced, installed a new serpentine belt, new plugs/coils all around and even fixed a small issue with the turn signal lever. Oil/ filter change along with fresh radiator fluid, brake fluid and service to both diffs. $1500 later I hooked up to a 5x10 box trailer and headed north on that 1400 mile trip. Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, a piece of Pennsylvania and into New York. Two days up and three days back (I got sick and laid up a day to rest). Average fuel economy was right at 20.5 mpg….towing a box trailer. When the truck was new, and in favorable conditions, I was able to hit 22mpg on the highway and it still gets 17-18 around town. This truck is my daily driver and does everything I ask and more. If these companies don’t get a handle on prices, my next truck WILL be an older model (1999-2005) that does not have all the fancy touch screens, Bluetooth, power everything and built-in obsolescence that comes with these “new” vehicles. I can find a 20 year old truck, put $10-15,000 into refurbishing it, and still be paying out 1/3 of the cost of a new one. No plans to get rid of it anytime soon. My dream would be to consult with someone like Gale Banks, tell him what I want to accomplish and have him build me a vehicle. Of course, the auto makers will never do such a thing…..because if they did there would be almost no repairs ever needed on such a well built machine. 🤨
I'm driving a 2011 Ram 1500 SLT With 120,000 miles. Bought new in 2012 for $25,000. 13 years later total repair bill of $2,500. I have the 4.7 AMC V8 also. 20 to 22 mpg on the Highway. 17-18 around town. Planning on driving it another 5 years at Least.😊
Excellent post Tim. I wish I would have kept one of my old trucks as I made the mistake of selling them and now im stuck with high priced trucks that are loaded with stuff i'll never use or dont need and will break. Im thinking of buying an older truck and putting in a new motor and transmission and driving that for a long time.
I got my 2021 classic 5.7 hemi 4x4 with 3.92 rear end for 34,000 out the door. Love this truck pulls 10,000 pounds good to. I plan to keep this truck for a long time.
@@charlesedwards8030 Nice truck. That was the truck I made the mistake of selling just a few years older. That combo of the 3.92, the 5.7 and that 8 speed make that truck pretty quick. I got on it off the line a few times to get a hole shot in traffic and it really bolted. I put a flow master cat-back exhaust on it and it sounded awesome.
Lots of negatives for Stellantis. Reliability and quality is a big concern for consumers. Fuel economy is another. Then general and up front cost. RAM needs to bring back the Dakota or a small truck like the Rampage. Something that fits more consumers. Ford is killing it with the Maverick for the average person. It’s relatively affordable, good on gas, and gives most regular people exactly what they need. I see a lot of Hyundai Santa Cruz as well and the buyers say the same thing. I’ve spoken with Ranger owners who tell me it’s more capable and more fuel efficient than their old 2010’s F150’s, and about the same size. When you look at the previous recession economy with similar economic attributes, the common place for auto makers to bring in consumers was small, affordable, economical cars. Ford Fiesta, Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris. These cars sold very well in the years after the recession. Even Civics, Corollas, Focus, Mazda3’s sold very well as they were a little bigger, but still economical. Stellantis doesn’t have a Neon or Stratus anymore. That’s hurting them. They don’t have a small to mid sized affordable truck. They can even sell the Dodge Hornet because it’s an Alfa. They’d be better off rebranding Mitsubishi’s like they used to.
All the companies are trying to sell their full size trucks…problem is full size trucks nowadays can’t even fit in peoples garages because of how huge they’ve gotten. Now even the compact trucks like the Tacoma are getting to the size of what full size trucks were…and the prices. By the time you payoff that $80k ontop of the high interest rate, your truck will be worth $30k.
This is not isolated to just one company, they are all dealing with the same thing. Prices are insane even on used cars. Some dealers are low on inventory of other brands but it’s not due to heavy sales, the manufacturer just slows down production instead of overproduction. Maintains a smoke and mirrors type of thing to keep prices higher and their cars more desirable. Plus with high interest rates no one wants to buy a new car. Or bought one during Covid and are still stuck with it because of massive overpaying
BYD has started making cars in a Stellantis plant in Poland. They will be doing it soon at a plant here in America very soon. Build them here and they avoid tariffs.
I believe you. And they will undercut all pricing here. Their EV's looks good. They would sell. How did we get to this point? Mass layoffs coming soon to Stellantis.
BYD is worldwide already. Selling very well in South America, Elon saw it coming so he slashed prices on Teslas just in time...none of the EV manufacturers can make a profit and it'll get worse once BYD expands w/in the US.
BYD executives recently toured our Canadian plants, Windsor and Brampton (I work in the Brampton Assembly Plant). Looks like they are interested in establishing a foothold in Canada as a preparation to launch into the US.
It isn't just them. All dealers order are higher end models because that is a bigger cash grab for each one they sell. If they would get some of the base models and lower end models, people would buy them more. Of course you can order one the exact way you want it, but you run the risk of your trade in value going down in the time it takes to finish building, which means that your quoted payment may not be the payment you get.
Can't put an $85k sticker on a $30k SUV. Eventually you run out of stupid people to buy them.
Sad but true.
The supply of idiots is endless. the free money to bury them in a lifetime of bad debt is whats drying up.

Unfortunately that list has been LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG! For years now.
Car payments as much as mortgage payments 😖.. what are these people thinking!
I remember in my teens 25 years ago, anything over 100k was a supercar and basically millionaires are the only ones who paid for those kinds of cars.
I still think that way. I assume ppl that pay 100k for SUV’s and trucks are idiots and in massive debt
indeed...my first NEW car was a 1974 celica gt for $4.2k, gave it to my wife and bought another new car, 1977 280Z for $7.2k. even with inflation added they're nowhere near as expenses as roughly comparable cars today. hell. even my 2013 taco try off-road was $32k new.
Classic!

That just means you're dumb and have bad credit. Derp.

($1,000/month)
To afford $55,000
A person would need to make WELL over $40/hr , that's AFTER paying $11,000 down payment ($740/month)😮
The average hourly wage in the United States is $29/hour.

Thanks!
These trucks are only worth 35,000$ . These prices are insane. Man, these vehicles are half the price of a moderate house .
That's what I said! Who spends the equivalent of my mortgage on a new car that will depreciate? Madness!
I think you are spot on with what these should sell for
Have you priced houses lately? They're just as bad.

That’s why I buy hand me downs, fix em up, and ride em till the wheels fall off

New truck would be nice but so is my savings accounts and investments.
When truck makers watch how the Ford Maverick sold, They should have retooled and build Dakotas, Keep base under $25,000
Hell now the Maverick is 35-40k
Whats funny about for Chrysler, many years ago they had a Rampage Concept that was very close to what the Marverick is now. They had their chance and lost it.
@@richunggoy3960 You could buy a couple used F250's, and rip a Maverick in half for that money.

I'll keep my 2004 ram 1500 with a 4.7l motorand manual trans. I paid $17,500 20 years later it still runs great and i use it everyday!

As a retired guy I recall when American car companies built cars that Americans, families in particular, could afford. Family needs drove the purchasing habits. Room for big families, economy for smaller incomes, pick-ups for the self employed.

Manufacturers, Dealers, & some Banks are offering 10 yr loans.
I can’t believe they still have 22’s on the lot. That is really bad. Way too expensive for a vehicle.
They will never go under, American taxpayers dollars will always bail them out.
In 2000 average 1500 trucks cost between 20-35k. 24 years after they still guzzling same MPG but the price went to start 50k+......
(and whoever the next president is will probably keep on the china tariff bandwagon)..
Still running my 2007 5.9 Mopar.
Part of the problem is the $12 to $14k dollars worth of government mandated crap on these vehicles.
Underrated comment.
@JimAllen-Persona It's not fair to blame the government. These trucks are just big luxury vehicles now. This is because the consumer wanted this. It just so happens that the consumer can no longer afford Bentley luxury on a Honda budget.
@JimAllen-PersonaLess efficient cars actually cost less to manufacture. Can’t put a dollar amount on that though.
Yo the government is soaking in this fact as you speak. They know they don’t have to deal w the overhead issues these companies have.
HA the RT is 40k dollars for a economy car 40 THOUSAND for a little hybrid suv that gets 30mpg stupid stupid stupid. Ill happily stick with my 1998 civic with 280k miles that i paid 700 dollars for that still gets 34mpg.
Was speaking a recent retiree, he said with his 401k tanking like everyone else’s, he will not be buying a new vehicle. The pain continues.
he must have a bad finance guy, my dad recently said he was making more than expected.
@@batsonelectronics Many working Americans lost a lot of money today.
So glad I’m retired from the Army, I don’t have to worry about the market fluctuating. But now the Army uses the 401 accounts for Soldiers retirement benefits.
He might be interested in the cheapest Toyota they sell. They're inexpensive, reliable and last forever. I just bought the base Corolla and couldn't be happier, it's all the car we need.
@@barriowoodworks today is 1 day, it will go back up. Also not every stock dropped so losing or gaining depended on which actual stocks you owned.
Remember when the UAW scored those 25% pay increases for their members?
That's going to bite them in the ass. Hard!
40%.
About 8 years ago - uaw asked mgmt for more $$$- would not negotiate - at that time wages and benefits was $110/hr - wonder why plants are moving to Mexico -Greed
The car prices were high before the employees received those pay raises. The main reason why these vehicles cost so much is because of greed.
@@lorenzol332 you are right about the greed. It is production line workers helping themselves to the detriment of their neighbors.
Stelantis, Jeep GM and Ford all need to go out of business. Their prices are just absolutely ridiculous. These vehicles are way more than my first house
I agree, fk em.
First house for me was $15K, and my parents was $4700. How many of those could you buy for $89K?
Its simple fact that people are struggling and the first thing that is effected is large purchases like cars that are non essential. Economy is slowing due to high finance costs. After job cuts start then house prices will follow.
Fix your current car or truck. No matter what's wrong with it, t's way cheaper than buying new.
They are lazy.
😂
in case you missed the news dealership are asking chrysler minivans customers that come in for maintenance if they agree to receive a sum of money in exchange for immediate termination of their warranties, BYD officials have also been seen at Chrysler factory touring the facilities, those minivans are worth 0 dollars Chrysler is not long before either closure or being sold to China, oh yeah forgot they sent letters to chrysler employees to offer them bonuses if they leave...funny that me in a tiny european country knows insider info for a brand that isn't even sold here anymore that's the internet for you
Where did you get that info from if I may ask?
This This country is in trouble
People have let greedy rich people rob them blind... I'm waiting for a French revolution style reset.
RM ..............and the people don't have an idea on what is going on .
@@dannycalley7777 ...but they be a findin' out real soon, though.
In Canada, with a current exchange on the 53K Wagoneer, it would cost $73K. Is it any wonder that with each interaction of the Canadian Carbon tax, automobiles get further and further out of reach? When I bought my JK in 2013, it was $39K, and it is now paid off. I get calls from time to time from Jeep asking if I want to trade it in, but I can't justify paying more on a vehicle than what I pay for rent.
wagoneer and jeeps should be in the range of 20-50's max depending on model and type
But, but, but Porsche can sell 120k SUV........ Clowns
I'm driving a 2011 Ram 1500 SLT
With 120,000 miles. Bought new in 2012 for $25,000. 13 years later total repair bill of
$2,500. I have the 4.7 AMC
V8 also. 20 to 22 mpg on the
Highway. 17-18 around town.
Planning on driving it another
5 years at Least.😊
What is funny I've been looking at a couple of motorcycles northwest New York state, I'm west of Austin. But my 05 hemi is barely 15 miles a gallon.
Stock market is finally matching your content. Great job and keep up the good work.
Stellantis is suing NC dealer to keep from having to buy back $180 million worth of fleet vehicles.
180 million!?😮😮😮
@@joshuaburgess4730 yes sir. That's not a typo. I put a dollar sign and better wording to make it more clear.
A Chinese EV? What could possibly go wrong? No thanks.
@@xpavar They also make ICE cars.
