Hi, everyone! Thanks for watching the video. If you'd like to hear more from Dr. Roland Griffiths, you can listen in on the larger interview with him (now a bit dated, but still good) here:

You should do a video on Human Persistent Perception Disorder. Mines more like visual snow. It can be caused from consuming things from this class of substances. Especially if using them in an irresponsible manner and not under a practitioners care. To be honest it's been complete hell since I've gotten it. Threw me for a loop. I have to live with the fact my vision will be permanently altered forever due to trying certain things. HPPD should be talked about more within the community. That way people know there is a risk out there. One way I can put it is the world looks a bit unreal especially at night. Pixilated in a sense. Enjoyed the video and I still have faith in these substances to treat mental disorders. Just highly advise people to use responsibly in a controlled environment. As well as under a practitioners care. Alot of us wish there was a cure. Whoever figures one out will be helping out alot of us .

After i quit drinking 8 years ago, after 10 years of daily blackout drinking, I was suffering from the worst depression of my life and remained that way for 2 years. At the end of those 2 years i had a plan to kill myself. As a last ditch effort i decided to grow mushrooms and give them a chance at my depression as i had nothing to lose anyway.. The first time i did them i cried for hours. So much sadness poured out of me. For 3 months after that first time, i didn't want to die anymore, and i was starting to feel like myself for the first time in years. I kept taking them every few months for a while until i didn't need them anymore. I'm still alcohol free all these years later and I am living life to it's fullest and haven't felt suicidal in years now.

I think this video is missing one key point about mushrooms and that is: what the actual experience of healing is like on shrooms. So I will describe my experience that is pretty similar to others I have talked to. I recently tried 2 microdoses of mushrooms and it greatly helped with my anxiety and depression, quite a bit for the depression.
The experience: Basically your negative emotions come up quite strongly but now they are tagged with their origin story and the logical resolution to them. Everytime I had massive anxiety on mushrooms along with that feeling would come the reason it is there and that there is no longer a reason to carry it around. You also get something very similar from years of therapy. Mushrooms basically know all of your bullshit, puts it front and center for you to see and then gives you permission to let it go. Shrooms condense therapy down into a single intense therapy session. I went through 1.5 years of therapy and got a lot out of it but depression and anxiety creeped in. I also think allowing your brain to rewire itself during these trips is what makes it so lasting. Therapy can take months or years to rewire your brain and there are so many opportunities to fall off of the wagon so to speak.

I think it’s helped me immensely after my second stroke. I think it help carve new brain pathways to help restore some of my lost function.
It’s seemed particularly helpful in the first six months.
I was taking .5 grams approximately every other day. Some days I would take a full gram if I was pushing myself to take a long walk.

@@adrianflo6481 it’s my experience. AND I SAID NOTHING ABOUT A STUDY ON LAB-RATS.
And yes I am accounting for my own hard work.
I’ve now recovered from two strokes (no reason was ever found). That were about 11 months apart. First one was on the left hemisphere of the parietal lobe, and it took every bit of 11 months to recover about 90% functionality, before I had my second stroke, which was on the right hemisphere of the parietal lobe.
Yep. No shit. Matching strokes. The second one was more severe. I had only 85% functionality and was put on disability. During my most recent recovery, after much reading and self research, I decided that I had nothing to lose and added mushrooms to my regimen.
And today after about 17 months of working hard (with very little help from doctors because they bankrupt me from the first stroke) I consider myself probably 90% healed overall. I have a few deficits that probably will never fully resolve. And I’m hoping to get back to work at some point. Still trying to figure out what I can handle.
This is my experience. I’m not telling anyone to try this their self.
People sometimes self administer, because doctors want to charge you for merely gazing in their general direction, and after they financially drain you and provide very little help or answers.

Despite being excited/optimistic about my 'trip' (taken in an attempt to interupt my treatment resistent depression), despite a beautiful setting and trusted clinician with a dozen years using the MAPS protocol, mine was a torturous episode. 5 hours of feeling as if I was a rag dog, tossed about in hyperstimulation, pissing myself, vomiting, finding no sense of connectedness/oneness/unity, nor encountering an identifiable boogie man. Not one moment of peacefulness. I only knew that I had to 'ride out' the heroic dose. I was devastated, confused, and out a few thousand dollars for the privilege. This 'bad trip' left me feeling even more hopeless... It's been four months. I feel more despairing than ever. I have no ill feelings toward the clinician. I still believe there is great research/promise in mental health benefits from psychedelic use. I want to brave another attempt, but even the doctor said my response was atypical and looked tormenting. We're both, in a sense, haunted by this experience.

It's baffling that researchers don't have any idea why we're depressed. We live in a spiritual wasteland where you're forced to trade the most sacred things of yourself for material gain after being raised by people who had their souls crushed long ago by doing the same song and dance. we have lost our way and nobody knows what they need other than less pain, but the pursuit of less pain brings more pain. Early mornings in the central Texas ranches, we would pick mushrooms off cow patties. Our most used term was Silly Putty.

They can really help your mind of course, unlock it, but I would say from experience, sometimes it's better to work through things purely on your own, when you know your mind is totally 'normal'. Take long breaks between doing drugs, stay grounded.

Oh! I saw Rhonda and a giant mushroom on the thumbnail. Clicked on this one very quickly :D
I have previously tried a combination of micro-dosing psilocybin + lion's mane + niacin (Paul Stamets method), and I've had some very positive results for treating neuropathic pain. Take that anecdote for what it's worth, but this area of research is highly interesting to me!

Yes, Intermitten Fasting has helped me make incremental improvement while depressed/isolating at 75 yrs. during Covid. I remember having good experiences years ago with psilocybin. I think it would help me now too. How I find it.❓Can anyone direct me, please.🌞

Dr Rhonda from my experience and collating what you’re saying I think this spine is formed based on the environment in which you took the mushrooms. They can be good or bad, they can be long lasting. The place and conditions in which you took the stuff has a huge bearing on the paths that are formed. IE they can also be negative

I recommend trying small dosages at first and titration of dose until you reach a heroic dose. Afterwards, microdosing will be very effective.

I personally will never go above 3 g. I'm scared of having a bad trip, I just want the positive effects from smaller doses (1g works for me)

Be forewarned, they are not for everyone. I tried microdosing shrooms and found that while I felt good on the day that I microdosed, I felt awful the next day - worse than usual. I had to stop the experiment. Note: There are people who say that taking once every 6 months is good for a brain 'reset' - both micro and macro dose levels (either-or). This may be true, but I didn't want to try, after the negative effects I had. Also btw, I tried ketamine and it did not work for me at all (didn't have the bad effect of the next-day that I had with shrooms, but did not have any lasting positive effect at all, after the initial 'buzz'. I threw out the rest of the ketamine). Just FYI to others. What worked for me? Lots and lots of time. Time for things to work out, both on the outside (life becoming easier over a long time period - years) and inside (having more inner trust that things were okay - mostly based on life becoming easier.

I hear you, SO FAR microdosing is going well for me, time will tell, but I was desperate to get out of depression with a natural way. We dont always have time, that's is why I'm also trying ketamine, it's worth the risk for me as I'm almost desperate

We have to be careful with Psilocybe species. High doses of psilocybin can also lead you in the other direction into a even worse depression. I have seen a few accounts of this including myself. Microdosing however is a much safer option.

At 6:12 When you were reviewing the differences between psilocybin and escitalopram it says that 1mg of psilocybin was administered 3 times through the the daily escitalopram, could you shed some light on that?

    • @FoundMyFitness
      @FoundMyFitness  2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

It's a design meant to control for the power of expectations. Rather than saying "you might receive psilocybin or placebo," which could backfire, they can say "you will receive psilocybin" but without strictly disclosing that the dose they're receiving is (probably) negligible.
Here's a quote from the paper:
"At visit 2, which occurred 1 day after visit 1, the patients in the psilocybin group received 25 mg of psilocybin, and those in the escitalopram group received 1 mg of psilocybin, which was presumed to have negligible activity (dosing-day 1). To standardize expectations, all the patients were informed that they would receive psilocybin, but the dose was not disclosed to them."

I believe someone I know in San Francisco experiences depression, sometimes very profound. He recently shared with me quite a bit about his circumstances. I believe he would benefit greatly from psilocybin therapy, but my first goal is to get him into therapy and save the psilocybin for later.
I would welcome therapist recommendations in the San Francisco area who not only may eventually lead my friend to someone specializing in psilocybin therapy, but who is also comfortable/experienced with gay people in the Asian community, someone fluent in both English and Mandarin would be ideal. Thank you ahead of time.
In my youth I was a recreational user, but I always recognized the therapeutic value of hallucinogens. For others interested in the subject, I strongly recommend the book "How To Change Your Mind" by Michael Pollan.
