I have at least one of all these ships. I prefer my cutter for trading as I find it easier to get it through the mail slot than a T9. Something I learned while flying the T9's through the mail slot is that it is way easier to do with something marking the center-line of your ship, like having the comp. scanner active. This is especially helpful if you are using a head tracker to look around. I prefer the Diamondback Explorer or the Asp Explorer for exploration because you can find a place to land them way faster than trying to find a place to land an Anaconda. Many of the biological specimens are found only in the hills where it is extremely difficult to land a large ship. I like the Krait MKII for npc and thargoid combat. I like the Diamondback Explorer as my bubble shuttle because I have a 70 ly jump range on it.
I love to make meme builds for PvE. Highly inefficient many times (not always), but super fun to play. Like an all bursts shieldless chieftain, an all cannons crusader with a fighter, all shotgun fed gunship, an all rails (hammers included) shieldless anaconda, an all shock cannons viper MK 3, an all rails eagle, an all beams Diamond back scout... It's so stupid that is fun AF lol. I couldn't find a satisfying build for the dropship though. I can't stand that ship, although they say it's a decent substitute for the DB explorer if you like its looks and the tanky snail-like maneuverability.
@@lootandgrind The last I made was an all Patreus plasmas Vulture, engineered to rapid fire or whatever is called (I haven't played ED in more than half a year). Super fun, especially if you suck with fixed and slow projectiles like me lol.
Cobra MK III, Clipper or Krait for piracy. Challanger, FDL or Corvette for PVP/PVE. Krait Phantom for exploration and using the Neutron Highway as well as grinding mats or guardian stuff.
My preferred gameplay is to use the smallest ship that can do the task at hand with ease. I have large ships but they get little use. The smaller ships are so much nicer to fly. I use the Dolphin as a "Bubble bus" and a DBX for exploration. The glorious Python is a great ship and can often do "big ship work". I like the large choice of ships. They are all have different capabillities and unique sound. A good thought provoking video, thanks.
Manoeuvrability imho is what makes ships fun to fly...and small ships are the most manoeuvrable 👍 Vulture is my favourite, but I can often be found in my DBX too! o7
When I was starting the game, the first ship I bought was a Cobra III. The Cobra is a fun ship that can do a little of everything, and it's a nice link back to the original Elite game back in the 80s. You can earn enough to get a Cobra without leaving the newbie zone. I was going heavily into mining, so I bought a keelback - keelbacks are really, really good for mining, although not much else. Next up, I bought an Asp Explorer, which can mine well and is pretty versatile - it is not my favorite exploration ship, but it is very good there. The Python is the best mining ship, and probably the best all-around ship for mining or trading, even some passenger runs.
I find the keelback makes a great odyssey dropship, stick in an SRV bay with a scorpion and you can take a teammate into ground settlement CZ's with easy access in and out to re-instance when the mission's over.
Combat fitted Krait MkII is my daily driver, has respectable jump range, and can do anything well. I have dedicated ships for most tasks (when I need to grind out a bunch of task specific progress)
Don't forget the T9. I use to fly the Cutter for doing trade, but then I discovered that the T9 actually holds more cargo if you want to run with shields.
You can core mine with the Corvette, too, if so inclined. Obviously, other ships can do it better, but it can be done. That's what I like about the Python. You can equip it for all types of mining, and it carries a decent amount of cargo.
Level up process for me: Sidewinder -> Dolphin -> Asp Explorer (Kept the AspEx, even though don't fly it anymore.) Next ships and use: Krait Phantom: Pre-Colonia fully equipped exploration ship (no weapons) [Earned Exploration Elite, is my daily driver.] Python: Medium transport, medium passenger, and both laser and deep core mining (heavily engineered, general purpose) [Earned Imperial and Federal rank in this ship via passenger rescue missions from stations in early Thar. storyline.] Type 10 Defender: Heavily engineered, turreted long range beam & pulse weapons, PvE combat ship. [Working on Combat Elite and credit farming.] Anaconda: Purchased, to be my long range exploration ship for first trip to Colonia & first true large transport ship. (Not equipped yet.) (To be purchased) Imperial Cutter: Cargo vessel. Of course, its been a couple of years since played. Plan to get back into it soon to continue the process.
I personally run 2 accounts, and have tried different ships for all the roles you have mentioned. One primary account and one basic account that I have used to start over from the beginning since I remember how fun earning your way through the game was several years ago. This also allows me to travel with my squad mates and still have the ability to play in the bubble if I get bored. Daily driver: I agree that the "Taxi" is a must and I have used the DBX, Dolphin, Type-6, and even an imperial courier but, it was only because it was a free ship I earned in a CG way back. Exploration: I agree with all 3 you mentioned however, I am currently joining a squad mate in long distance exploration in an Orca. It's not the best jump range, but it can hold all the extras you need when traveling, like 2 AMFUs for FSD repairs after boost jumping. Mining: I have used many ships and I agree that the Python is at least top 5 of my preferred mining ships. I usually stick to laser mining in a large ship, such as an Anaconda, Corvette, and even my Cutter, but the Python is the best ship to mine everything. Though I've used other med ships, the Python has the best core and optional internals and cargo space. Combat: That's a difficult decision. Combat is absolutely my favorite activity to do in Elite in all forms. Bounty hunting, Thargoid killing, or even the occasional pirating (which I am terrible at). I'd have to agree that the Chieftain is very fun for all these tasks, but I have many combat ships ranging from a Cobra 3 to a Corvette and they all have their pros and cons. I could give examples all day on what weapons, shields, and armor set ups to use and how many ships can perform better at long range or brawl up close and personal. This is commander's choice here I'd say so I won't dive to deep into that. As for the "show off" ship, I'd have to say the Cutter, that is until you get a fleet carrier. The Cutter is my go to cargo ship because it is fast (though not agile) and heavily armed so I am able to defend myself and run away if needed. It was also my primary money grind ship that helped me and my squad mates purchase our fleet carriers. Sorry this was so long, I just wanted to way in a bit with this subject. I enjoy and appreciate your content.
Thank you for leaving such a detailed comment. I love reading these long comments. It goes to show how much people enjoy this game. And those are some great picks for ships, Commander o7
1 & 2. AspX both for driving round the bubble and for exploration. Having a long jump range and big ol' fuel scoop helps for both! 3. Anaconda, rigged for core mining. Might be TOO much of a good thing, filling that cargo hold takes _forever_! 4. Krait Mk2 for fighting bugs, Fer De Lance for 'oomies. Anaconda #2 for harvesting pirates for materials 5. No particularly blingy ships right now.. the Fleet Carrier, hopefully in not too long!
If I could have only 5 ships, it would be: 1. Phantom: Exploration, landing on planets with an SRV. 2. Python: Combat and gathering mats in combat/High Grade Emissions. 3. Python: Dedicated Laser Miner. 4. Python: Dedicated Robigo Runs Pax Missions. 5. Anaconda: Trade and if needs be refit for long range travel/exploration. None of them are behind a rank wall. I do prefer the smaller ships for combat. The Vulture and even the Eagle. If I must, I go up to the Python to gather material while in combat but I can turn up in the Corvette with fighter crew. Currently I am cutting about in a Courier engineered to the max for getting around and landing on planets in or near the bubble. I only switch to the Phantom if it is a long way out, Guardian Sites etc. Very rarely do I break out the JumpaConda. My carrier largely stays static 1/3 of the way between Ray Gateway and Jameson Memorial. If I really want to trade in safety, it's the Cutter.
Everything except mining can be done by orca or t7, without docking with the station and changing modules. A huge number of internal modules, 4 external modules, good weapon placement, and all this with a jump of ~50 years. For those who want to have a mobile home that works completely autonomously and is ready for almost any task.
My favourite ship for Exploration is the Krait Phantom, the Python MK2 is my favourite combat ship and i'm currently using the Python MK1 as a medium sized cargo hauler for Empire and Federation rank grinding.
My daily driver is the Asp Explorer, My explorer is a 'Conda, My miners are a Cutter/Python for laser mining and a Python for deep core. I have a few combat ships depending on my mood. They are the 'Vette, Krait MKII, and the Alliance Chieftain.
Bubble Bus - DBX Explorer - Krait Phantom Core Mining - Type 9 Combat - Krait Mk II & Anaconda Show-off - personally, mine is my Phantom cause it shows off my explorer rank (Elite IV)
I've been playing for 4 years and i have over 40 ships. Your list is very solid but different from mine. My daily driver: icourier at 50 ly range and 700m/s. You can start charging your fsd after boosting once out of the station. Explorer. Anaconda 83 ly. Shields and 2 srvs (76 with fighter Hangar on). I also have a dbx (my first ever ship) that is parked at ay indi when I'm in the black and have to suicidewinder) Mining: cutter. Can do laser and core mining and LOVE the challenge of avoiding asteroids with FA Off with an actual behemoth like that. Racing: I have viper mk 3 (932m/s), eagle (809m/s). Show off ? Don't have it but it would be my 6 clippers my favourite ship in the game. Combat: chieftain for axi, mamba for pvp, cutter for pve and rescue. Trading: cutter and type 9.
@@lootandgrind You have mining on the brain, yo... No. My python was basically a medium class hauler. As I mentioned before, I've only been mining once -- and that was in my Cutter. You got me thinking, though.
1. DBX is my Taxi 2. Anaconda for long distance Exploration, DBX for Guardian sites, Asp X for around the Bubble. 3. Python the only ship I use for Mining. 4. Cutter and Corvette for none goid Combat. Chieftain for Goid Combat. 5. Fleet Carrier.
should try a Vette for mining. It does a better job of it than you would think. you can even have plenty of backup weapons and shields to kill pirates with if you decide to mine is a res. It has been my go to for mining for years. OFC I use the big 3 for pretty much every role.
For shuttling around and doing stuff in the Bubble, the Dolphin equiped to do rescue, material farming, settlement stuff (two SRVs, one of each), and a dumb fire missile rack to rain death on on foot hostiles. It also has a great view. Exploring is sort of complicated. I have a DBX, Asp, and Phantom. The DBX is one of my newest ships and i wonder why i skipped it years ago on the way up. It is also my go-to for biological exploration. Mining is done in several ships: Python, Clipper, Type 7, or Cutter. The Cutter is set to mine ANYTHING. It's not always ideal, but you canjust do whatever you want in it that way witjout changing out modules. The Type 7 is terrible but i love the view and capacity, plus you can't be in a hurry no matter what! For combat I have 4 ships: Krait mkII, Cutter, Type 10, and Viper mkIII. I am just finishing up an Anaconda anti-Thargoid build that i haven't tried out yet. The Krait is probably my favorite, with the Corvette set up to shred pirates for materials. I am learning to really enjoy the Viper as it is a new addition. To show off? Cutter or Corvette. I just wish your rank would show up as well. I'd much prefer "Prince Tavis" to commander!
I have a pre-engineered G4 FSD from back in Colonia bridge days, I put in a Dolphin and ended up with a ship I jump in any chance I get. 63LY range fully exploration equipt and runs so cold you can highwake out of fuel scooping and refill the fuel you just used during 5sec count down.
I do a little bit of everything. I have a DBX,T9,T7, Orca, Corvette, Python and a T10, Chieftain and FAS. When I get bored of one thing I do another. Right now I'm out in the black looking for more Guardian sites and scanning bodies. My DBX is my exploring and getting around ship. She is my favorite
1) Imperial Courier to move myself around. 2) Fleet Carrier as an explorer's base of operations with Vista Genomics and Universal Cartographics offices and several smaller ships configured as explorer shuttles: Sidewinder, DBE, AspExp, Anaconda, each for different range of operations. 3) Type10 as a mining platform, equipped for any mining task possible. 4) FDL and Anaconda as combat vessels. 5) Clipper and Cutter, although I've never really used them. Anyway, I've sold everything including FC recently, fitted a Python for exploring (I just love Python) and left the Bubble for awhile, at least until the end of this stupid war.
as a noob, I shall give a list of specific ships to get for each of these categories for fellow noobs. daily driver: asp explorer. (though really anything works) exploration: asp explorer. (though really anything works, notable alternative ships are DBX, krait phantom, krait mk II (maybe?), anaconda, and dolphin) mining: asp explorer. (though most other ships will work, you will likely want a few hardpoints and a good amount of storage space) combat: asp explorer. (other ships could be the federal corvette, anaconda (ish), fer-de-lance, and probably more that idk about because I avoid combat like the plague) the rich ship: asp explorer. hear me out on this, it's a thing in real life that rich people don't look rich, because if you spend all your money on a suit that looks like John Wick you won't have any money leftover. so rich people stick with simpler outfits. Elon Musk is a good example of that. other alternatives are the ships seen above, and if you want an expensive ship instead of a rich ship, there's really no other option than the maxed-out fleet carrier. put a 900m/s ship on it too if you want a bit of fun
So my favorite ship is going to be a cutter, I am currently working towards getting it. I'm not getting it to show off, I originally wanted it because it has the most inventory space, as I am a trader. I'm going to have it outfitted for trading, combat, and run missions. I'm not one for aesthetics, but I will be using arks to make my cuter my own
Hmmmm, this is tricky as I go in waves of what I like doing. The ship I fly the most for combat is the Python. I know there are better ships, but I haven't died in this one yet. As for long distance, that would be the DBX or Anaconda. Mining, Anaconda. Bulk cargo is the cutter. I have tried them all and these are the ones that thrill me the most. Krait Mk2 is fun for Matts collecting, but I need to unlock some more engineers in colonia next I think. so heading out soon to see what it's like out there.
Ok before I watch the video lol In no particular order assuming I can only own 5... 1. DBX (let's you get around to every location and do settlements) 2. Conda (can do combat , trade and travel) 3. Type 9(money making Now it gets hard lol 4. I'm gonna say chieftain (I like the fed assault but I think the chief is a little better) 5. I would say krait 2 because it's an excellent ship but for me it's the type 10 . It's not the best ship in any way but you can have some serious fun with this thing lol.
Oh and I have to say it pains me that the vulture didn't make my list. An engineered vulture is the absolute best way to learn combat. It teaches to be careful but has the juice to kill large ships. I always go back to that ship when I start getting lazy in combat. Pound for pound the best combat ship in the game.
Although it costs a lot to get good, and wont be as good as any ship at one thing, my best money earner is my type 10. It can survive hostile freight, hostile mining and passengers, afk and conflict zones- even some wing missions solo, Ive got it with beams and multicannons, reinforced standard shield, twin fighter bay, shield bank and lots of reinforcements. Its bought me all the other large ships, most of the medium and small and a fleet carrier. Although its very slow.
The Clipper is one of the most fatally flawed ships in the game. The hardpoints are poorly placed, and very lackluster for a large ship. The large size means you can't land on platforms, putting many missions (especially faction grinders) out of reach. It lacks the internal compartments typical of a large ship, meaning it isn't great for cargo/mining/passengers. It sure is a blast to fly though. Especially with a little engineering. I use it mostly for checking out emissions, and gathering their materials. A limpet controller, and a hold of limpets will help really clean up those sites.
I love the Clipper as well! Fast, agile, decent internals though could be better. I love it as a mining ship, occasionally for cargo, and especially for combat. I run large gimbled frags and Pack Hounds so weapon convergence is really no issue. I've seen a full frag build too that is fun, just isn't as effective against the very few ships that can out run you. This is why I like to keep something with decent range like missiles to finish off those targets before they get away.
1) python 2/3) cutter and anaconda tied 3) DBX 4) extra pythons 5) something for cursed non meta fun, for me thats a clipper *) for extra credit a carrier, seriously they are life changers
I love the Asp Explorer for both my daily driver and explorer ship. Still working on getting it fully engineered for exploration, but the 30+ LY jump range works well for what I use it for.
My plan is to own just two ships; a Type - 6 for daily driving, short range exploration, and trading rare goods, and a Type - 10 for well... everything else. I'd like to keep my fleet small, so the number of modules I need to engineer, and by extension the amount of mats I need is also small. Cheers.
I like to keep a trading ship too, for when I need to grind out a quick 100 million and don't feel like going about it another way. In part, I enjoy the challenge of handling the Type 9. Also, I made my first Elite rank with it.
I currently have 12 ships with price tags ranging from 920M cr down to 7M cr. 3 Imperial Cutters: 1 for combat, 1 for strip mining and 1 for bulk cargo/passenger transport 1 Anaconda outfitted for long range jumps 2 Alliance Challengers: 1 for combat and 1 for core mining 1 Imperial Clipper for VIP passenger transport 1 Python for cargo/passenger transport 1 Krait Mk II for combat 1 Asp Explorer for exploration 1 Imperial Courier just to round out the Im[perial ship set 1 Imperial Eagle for sport
Just a tip ... Cutter first then the F/C . This will make the credit grind for the F/C much easier and less time . Beware the rank grind in real ......... o7
I often hear you need to do combat to obtain certain materials... But I am still trying to figure out which ones would be bound exclusively to combat... As I am still stuck in the museum, I wonder if this is an Oddyssey thing...
@@lootandgrind I think that's up to personal preference and skill... And as my current combat rank exeeds my skill level (and equipment, it seems), I tend to go the signal source/scan ships in SC or wakes around stations/collect mats in geo hotspots or by mining route... And, as you said, it it should happen that some mats are a little shy, there's always the friendly neighborhood mat trader...
@@markallen3669 G5 lightweight sensors, V1 FSD with mass management, C4 guardian FSD booster, stripped down or lightweight everything, bear in mind you can run smaller power plants and power distributors. My rataconda runs a 6A power plant.
I want to collect one of every ship, build them all for a unique purpose… but mostly I want that CARRIER to hold them all and I just want a big fucking ship that launches other ships really :D 4 more billion credits to go!
Strange idea to only have one ship per usage. I have a DBE, Anaconda and Krait Phantom e.g. for exploration, a Cutter, Python and ASPE for mining, numerous AX and PvE combat ships, ... but nothing compares to the Vulture as a god mode PvE combat ship 🥰 or the DBE as explorer, capable of landing on a towl, no ... a hanky, jumping 70lj or close to 300 neutron boosted... or the FDL ripping Thargoid Interceptors apart who never even saw them comming 😋
Yo personalmente tengo: Krait Phantom para explorar Pythom para Mineria Krait MK2 Matar Thargoides Anaconda Multiproposito Cobra MK2 para misiones a pie. Eagle imperial Misiones a pie Fer De Lance Combate pirata y voy camino a comprar mi carrier
The ships I take for a spin mostly are my Anaconda that's set to carry 54 passengers, the Anaconda is a good ship for grinding rank at the stations. Second is my Cutter that probably makes the most money per trip and I use it for cargo runs. My Diamondback Explorer jumps further than any of my other ships, although the Diamondback is tiny I love the jump range. I also have a Keelback with an SRV for dealing with the ground missions when they happen to come up, I've got two Pythons for times when I need to use a medium ship for cargo or passengers, All my other ships are either work in progress or they've served their newbie purpose.
@@lootandgrind answer: yes. :D But in reality? 4 Jumpconda, Mining, General prupose (combat), and AX. But it worth noting that i have 40 (!) ships, in almost every class (and 2 Corvette, 2 Cutter).
im ASP lover, however is phantom krait a better Multiship?, Is Phanton worse or better in combat? in general also includ handling the ship plz? i know Phantom krait travel far. The Mandaly i wish they had any use of their medim Hardpoint, that ship is good for missions in mid travel ly. Not a multiship cuz the combat is rly Run. It did deserve a better sheild.. then it would be nice with medium hardpoints, waste points now. I do love the Mandaly in orbit For some reraon i just dont like the phyton. its not my cup of tea. thew ASP is the millenium falcon from starwars. It does nothing easy or perfect, still the pilot may handle everything- han solo.
Ty. Yh i did som fast reading now, yes i guess less LY jump and more fire power on mk2, anyway booth better than ASP EX. hmm i go check their sheilds before i speak of booth. all started with the Mandalay that i want to love all over😂, vs ASP explorer the Mandalay was a big downer on the shield slot. i have credits never felt for changing my ASP EX. i been playing for 10 years on and off. The Mk2 appeals me the whole design and also the jump range to the phantom when its supercarged jumping. 22.000 ly fom main bubble, i guess u know where im going. when im there i want the mk 2 not the sister. hhh i must have booth.
@@lootandgrind There are three I use pretty much exclusively. The Asp Explorer is my main ship. I play as an explorer, so that's an obvious choice. The fleet carrier needs tritium when I far out in the galaxy and I use the Anaconda for mining that. Lastly, when I'm in the civilised areas, I use the Type 9 for hauling stuff to the carrier or just general trade runs. Oh yes, I should probably mention I've been playing just over 4 years. It takes time to earn that many credits! :)
Nah, I'm DBX hater. I use Anaconda 80 ly jumper stocked with everything or 90 ly if to remove things. Anaconda is my love for exploration and fast transport. In fact, before Carriers I was using Anaconda only for everything once I could afford it. Since Odyssey I use Dolphin mostly for ground-based things. It can dock any settlement and can care up-to 92t of the cargo. I use 64t + car + boosters though for more autonomy.
Since i have unlocked most Modules and Engeneers, im back on my Anaconda, and since about 1 month i own 2 of them, even if i have a Cutter in my Hangar, i dont realy like the cutter, the turning speed is just to awful for me 😅 I cant get over that. But yea BDX and Pathon are pbrpbaly ma most used ships. And i dont own a fighter ship ^^ not as i should lol. I have done fighing only in my Anaconda, i dont do PvP so its more then just fine, and even now, 1 anaconda is just there to show how long mine is, my Jumprange i mean. and one now for Malesrtom farming. did it first in the Clipper, but im back again in my anaconda. this Ship just can do everything ^^ but it needs his little friend DBX to gather missions sometimes 🤣 And there is 1 more ship/playtype i recomend. get yourself a AFK build together. since then i never have to farm for Money anymore. about 30 minutes i gathered Missions up to like 600'000 millions credit, and then 10 more minutes to turn them in after you where going to work or sleep. so 40 minutes i make half a billion. cant tell me thats not the most efficient way to make money. but it took me while to get a T-10 together all grade 5 engeneered.
@@lootandgrind Yea but thats the most i can make. sometimes its is just half of it. bit i can do it all night. :) I know the benefit of a small ship. also my type 10 needs my DBX as helper, since i have to travel between 3 stations, and one of them is a smal landing pad only. But i also love big Ships. even if they need a big load of farming to make them shine.
Now, I own all of the ships in Elite except the Cobra IV. There are some not-as-common ships worth looking at: Dolphin - fast explorer with insanely low heat. This ship could fuel scoop a hypergiant without issues. I managed to sneak into a thargoid invasion system without incident using an exploration dolphin. Plus, the boost sounds like a dolphin! Viper IV - The Space A-10. Take this in loaded with unguided missiles and you can do airstrikes on hostile settlements or survive a hostile landing. Imperial Courier - a fun little combat ship, with surprisingly good shields for its size. Also can use enhanced performance thrusters. This ship is a blast for exobio or or missions involving lots of surface landings. Imperial Clipper - not well optimized for any one role, but always fun to fly. I like using it for exploration and core mining - it lets you zoom around the asteroid field looking for targets. Federal Dropship - it has a surprisingly low heat level, and has enough armor to handle hostile landings on enemy settlements.
2:58 Not true. Combat is not compulsory for engineering materials. You can farm high grade emission points for materials and trade down at material traders for whatever you need, it is more efficient as well. Personally, I find mining mind-numbingly boring and would rather do passenger missions from Robigo-Sothis for greater credits per hour (20-25 million every 10 minutes, so about 120 to 150 million an hour). To each their own though. Some constructive criticism about the channel, the guides are rudimentary and players will rapidly out-grow the tips and tricks you cover. It would help if you could go into more advanced topics as well as have a broader scope. I know you love mining, but it gets a bit old to hear about mining almost every video. If you really want to focus on mining, how about videos on optimised prospecting and mining techniques. For example, commanders with bad technique will take 4 to 5 hours to fill an imperial cutter with platinum, whereas commanders with good technique can fill up on 512 tons of platinum in about an hour and a half. Similar with core and sub-surface mining, try to cover good and bad mining techniques. It would help to describe the thought process for each as well. If you want to talk about exploration and exobiology, cover more techniques such as landing on high G worlds properly, what to look out for in the surface scanner, landing at specific coordinates (lat and long) for planets and moons, etc. It's really the limited content (you cover basics only) that stop me from subscribing.
Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it. I know I talk too much about mining. I have a couple more ideas for mining-themed videos as well as other professions. I'm afraid I won't be able to shut up about it though. I just love mining so much lol My main goal for the channel was to help complete newbies. Because I also struggled with the game at first. But I will take your feedback into account when planning future videos.
I restarted a couple of weeks ago and since I'm pretending to be poor for fiscal reasons, 🧐 I'm flying a Type-6, with partly engineered FSD, for exploring and getting around and a Type-7 for transport and as a hospital ship for evac missions. But I agree with most of your recommendations with some comments Getting around & exploration: DBX for sure, but it has the interior of a tractor. The Dolphin means you'll be getting around in style and can also be used for exploration. Early on when strapped for cash, the Type-6 performs about the same as the Dolphin. Mining: the Python _can_ be equipped for laser and deep core mining simultaneously. However, I hate the Python with a passion as I'm convinced ED would be a better game without it. The Phantom can be used for exploration and mining, especially when flown from an FC. Fighting: Vulture with an engineered powerplant is much cheaper than the Chieftain. But if you have the cash, Chieftain for sure. Bulk trading and (un)loading FC: Type-9 obviously. Luxury yacht: Anaconda, avoiding the imperial and Federal grind. If style trumps function, look at the Beluga Liner. o7 cmdr. 👨🚀
Bubble-Bus - Dolphin
Exploring - Dolphin
Mining - Cutter

Showing off - Mining in a Cutter :)
Great choices
Agree with all your choices. Lol
I have at least one of all these ships. I prefer my cutter for trading as I find it easier to get it through the mail slot than a T9. Something I learned while flying the T9's through the mail slot is that it is way easier to do with something marking the center-line of your ship, like having the comp. scanner active. I like the Diamondback Explorer as my bubble shuttle because I have a 70 ly jump range on it.
Elite Dangerous claims to be a game, which has many ships for different roles but all you actually need is a Krait MKII.
Haha that sounds fun. I also enjoy trying out weird builds

Laser mining with the cutter can be really cool, you'll see
When I was starting the game, the first ship I bought was a Cobra III.
That's the perfect approach to playing the game
I find the keelback makes a great odyssey dropship, stick in an SRV bay with a scorpion and you can take a teammate into ground settlement CZ's with easy access in and out to re-instance when the mission's over.
1.) Daily Driver: DBX/ Fleet Carrier
2.) Exploration: DBX
3.) Mining: Cutter/Python
4.) Combat: Federal Vette, Chief or Krait 2
5.) Baller Ship: Vette, Cutter 2, Conda, Fleet Carrier
Choices of a billionaire lol great picks
@@lootandgrind Choices of a long time player, with a lot of free time.
Combat fitted Krait MkII is my daily driver, has respectable jump range, and can do anything well. I have dedicated ships for most tasks (when I need to grind out a bunch of task specific progress)
That's awesome
Don't forget the T9. I use to fly the Cutter for doing trade, but then I discovered that the T9 actually holds more cargo if you want to run with shields.
The corvette is actually a great little mining ship its more agile than a cutter or anaconda but can carry far more cargo than a python
Agreed! I've used to it to do laser and core mining. It's awesome!
"little" lol
You can core mine with the Corvette, too, if so inclined. Obviously, other ships can do it better, but it can be done. That's what I like about the Python. You can equip it for all types of mining, and it carries a decent amount of cargo.
Level up process for me: Sidewinder -> Dolphin -> Asp Explorer (Kept the AspEx, even though don't fly it anymore.)
Next ships and use:
Krait Phantom: Pre-Colonia fully equipped exploration ship (no weapons) [Earned Exploration Elite, is my daily driver.]
Python: Medium transport, medium passenger, and both laser and deep core mining (heavily engineered, general purpose) [Earned Imperial and Federal rank in this ship via passenger rescue missions from stations in early Thar. storyline.]
Type 10 Defender: Heavily engineered, turreted long range beam & pulse weapons, PvE combat ship. [Working on Combat Elite and credit farming.]
Anaconda: Purchased, to be my long range exploration ship for first trip to Colonia & first true large transport ship. (Not equipped yet.)
(To be purchased) Imperial Cutter: Cargo vessel.
Anaconda #2 for harvesting pirates for materials
5. No particularly blingy ships right now.. the Fleet Carrier, hopefully in not too long!
Perfect choices!
I'll have to give that a try
My favourite ship for Exploration is the Krait Phantom, the Python MK2 is my favourite combat ship and i'm currently using the Python MK1 as a medium sized cargo hauler for Empire and Federation rank grinding.
My daily driver is the Asp Explorer, My explorer is a 'Conda, My miners are a Cutter/Python for laser mining and a Python for deep core. I have a few combat ships depending on my mood. They are the 'Vette, Krait MKII, and the Alliance Chieftain.
I forgot to mention I use a Cutter/Python for trading. I lived this game for four years daily.
Bubble Bus - DBX
Explorer - Krait Phantom
Core Mining - Type 9
Combat - Krait Mk II & Anaconda
Show-off - personally, mine is my Phantom cause it shows off my explorer rank (Elite IV)
I also have a dbx (my first ever ship) that is parked at ay indi when I'm in the black and have to suicidewinder)
Mining: cutter.
I have 16 ships. I have most all you mentioned, but have replaced Python with the Krait Mk III.
Replaced Python? For mining?
@@lootandgrind You have mining on the brain, yo...
No. My python was basically a medium class hauler. As I mentioned before, I've only been mining once -- and that was in my Cutter.
You got me thinking, though.
keep up the good work. It's good to see someone still likes the game. Getting ready to fly here pretty soon. Maybe I'll see you in the black. o7 CMDR.
Thank you, Commander o7
1. DBX is my Taxi
2. Anaconda for long distance Exploration, DBX for Guardian sites, Asp X for around the Bubble.
3. Python the only ship I use for Mining.
4. Cutter and Corvette for none goid Combat. Chieftain for Goid Combat.
5. Fleet Carrier.
Awesome choices
should try a Vette for mining.
That's the ideal way to play the game
Python is the best at everything!
as a noob, I shall give a list of specific ships to get for each of these categories for fellow noobs.
daily driver: asp explorer. (though really anything works)
exploration: asp explorer. (though really anything works, notable alternative ships are DBX, krait phantom, krait mk II (maybe?), anaconda, and dolphin)
mining: asp explorer. (though most other ships will work, you will likely want a few hardpoints and a good amount of storage space)
combat: asp explorer. (other ships could be the federal corvette, anaconda (ish), fer-de-lance, and probably more that idk about because I avoid combat like the plague)
the rich ship: asp explorer. hear me out on this, it's a thing in real life that rich people don't look rich, because if you spend all your money on a suit that looks like John Wick you won't have any money leftover. so rich people stick with simpler outfits. Elon Musk is a good example of that. other alternatives are the ships seen above, and if you want an expensive ship instead of a rich ship, there's really no other option than the maxed-out fleet carrier. put a 900m/s ship on it too if you want a bit of fun
Someone likes the ASP Explorer a bit too much lol You make a good point about rich life though
xD
Everything you could do better in another ship is more fun in the Courier.
DBE is the best explorer for me. It's small, maneuverable, fast, doesn't heat at all, has a great jump range of 71 LY and has all necessary modules.
Ok before I watch the video lol
In no particular order assuming I can only own 5...
1. DBX (let's you get around to every location and do settlements)
2. Conda (can do combat , trade and travel)
3. Type 9(money making
Now it gets hard lol
4. I'm gonna say chieftain (I like the fed assault but I think the chief is a little better)
Good choices. It always depends on each Commander's preference
Although its very slow.
back in the day before this new dlc, i loved exploring and doing some combat, the chieftain shotgun was the best for high hazard zones
Again, another Great video, Very beginner friendly. Thanks! o7
Thank you, Commander
1) python
2/3) cutter and anaconda tied
3) DBX
4) extra pythons
5) something for cursed non meta fun, for me thats a clipper
*) for extra credit a carrier, seriously they are life changers
Great choices. Python is the best all-rounder ship in the game
@@lootandgrind i would give that to the anaconda but yeah there is a reason the glorious python is glorious
I love the Asp Explorer for both my daily driver and explorer ship. Still working on getting it fully engineered for exploration, but the 30+ LY jump range works well for what I use it for.
You can easily get 50LY range for ASP with only FSD engineered, which is very easy to get to. And yes it's a great ship to fly all the time
keep the good content up man
My plan is to own just two ships; a Type - 6 for daily driving, short range exploration, and trading rare goods, and a Type - 10 for well... everything else. I'd like to keep my fleet small, so the number of modules I need to engineer, and by extension the amount of mats I need is also small.
Cheers.
I have a big fleet and use engineering only on the FSDs and my combat ship. No need to engineer everything. I hate the grind.
Those are some uncommon choices. But if you enjoy flying them, it's the best choice you can make
I like to keep a trading ship too, for when I need to grind out a quick 100 million and don't feel like going about it another way. In part, I enjoy the challenge of handling the Type 9. Also, I made my first Elite rank with it.
I currently have 12 ships with price tags ranging from 920M cr down to 7M cr.
3 Imperial Cutters: 1 for combat, 1 for strip mining and 1 for bulk cargo/passenger transport
1 Anaconda outfitted for long range jumps
2 Alliance Challengers: 1 for combat and 1 for core mining
1 Imperial Clipper for VIP passenger transport
1 Python for cargo/passenger transport
1 Krait Mk II for combat
1 Asp Explorer for exploration
1 Imperial Courier just to round out the Im[perial ship set
1 Imperial Eagle for sport
This video and no one in the comments (that I see) saying that the courier is the best daily driver shows how few people know how to play in open
Just a tip ... Cutter first then the F/C . This will make the credit grind for the F/C much easier and less time . Beware the rank grind in real ......... o7
I'm two ranks away from getting a Cutter. Will make a video on that soon
I often hear you need to do combat to obtain certain materials...
But I am still trying to figure out which ones would be bound exclusively to combat...
As I am still stuck in the museum, I wonder if this is an Oddyssey thing...
not entirely true, most of the manufactured materials can be found in dav's hope, except the grade 5 ones
@@cmdrTremyss Never been there.
The maufactured mats I needed so far were all to be found in degraded/encoded/high grade signal sources...
It's not required. You can always trade mats. But it's the most fun way to acquire them
@@lootandgrind I think that's up to personal preference and skill...
Decent video. I'd say the Krait Phantom is better than the DBX and Asp explorer as both daily driver and exploration ship.
It's just a bit too big sometimes. You can land the DBX anywhere. But Phantom does have the coolest sounds
I like the Dolphin as a daily driver.
DBX - fitted with a pre engineered FSD gets excellent jump range. The perfect explorer!
73ly on mine, still my day flyer. Beagle and back and still kicking
@@mikewaterfield3599 I got 58ly on mine. Love it, but would really like to know how you get 73 - impressive!

Of course, you can have as many ships as you want
@@lootandgrind sadly not 😄, only 40 on a carrier and I think there is even an absolute limit of 250 or there was. 40 is hard 😉
Yo personalmente tengo:
Krait Phantom para explorar
Pythom para Mineria
Krait MK2 Matar Thargoides
Anaconda Multiproposito
Cobra MK2 para misiones a pie.
Eagle imperial Misiones a pie
Fer De Lance Combate pirata
y voy camino a comprar mi carrier
Awesome choices!
Bubble bus and Exploarion: Anaconda
Mining: Anaconda

Anaconda can fill any role. :D
How many Anacondas do you have? lol
@@lootandgrind answer: yes. :D
But in reality? 4
Jumpconda, Mining, General prupose (combat), and AX.
But it worth noting that i have 40 (!) ships, in almost every class (and 2 Corvette, 2 Cutter).
the Mumba is also a must buy it is elite's version of a lambo or Ferrari
Good point. But it's not expensive enough lol
I own 46 ships, a FC and 95 billions in credits.....
I assume you never stopped playing Elite. :D
im ASP lover, however is phantom krait a better Multiship?,
Is Phanton worse or better in combat? in general also includ handling the ship plz?
i know Phantom krait travel far. The Mandaly i wish they had any use of their medim Hardpoint, that ship is good for missions in mid travel ly. Not a multiship cuz the combat is rly Run. It did deserve a better sheild.. then it would be nice with medium hardpoints, waste points now. I do love the Mandaly in orbit
For some reraon i just dont like the phyton. its not my cup of tea. thew ASP is the millenium falcon from starwars. It does nothing easy or perfect, still the pilot may handle everything- han solo.
I'd say Krait MK2 is a better multiship than the Phantom but in general there are only a few minor differences
I prefer the Alliance Chieftain for combat
Actually, I own every ship available in the game including a fleet carrier.
That's awesome. What's your favorite ship?
@@lootandgrind There are three I use pretty much exclusively. The Asp Explorer is my main ship. I play as an explorer, so that's an obvious choice. The fleet carrier needs tritium when I far out in the galaxy and I use the Anaconda for mining that. Lastly, when I'm in the civilised areas, I use the Type 9 for hauling stuff to the carrier or just general trade runs. Oh yes, I should probably mention I've been playing just over 4 years. It takes time to earn that many credits! :)
Cutter
Clipper
Corvette
Python
Phantom
i only have the diamondback
Nah, I'm DBX hater. I use Anaconda 80 ly jumper stocked with everything or 90 ly if to remove things. Anaconda is my love for exploration and fast transport. In fact, before Carriers I was using Anaconda only for everything once I could afford it.
Since Odyssey I use Dolphin mostly for ground-based things. It can dock any settlement and can care up-to 92t of the cargo. I use 64t + car + boosters though for more autonomy.
Can you link to those 'Conda builds please?
@@DogmaFaucet No links here possible. Standard Conda which jumps 72-75 with FSD 6A V1 gets + 5ly about to the range.
That's very impressive 👍
@@lootandgrind Yea but thats the most i can make. sometimes its is just half of it. bit i can do it all night. :) I know the benefit of a small ship. also my type 10 needs my DBX as helper, since i have to travel between 3 stations, and one of them is a smal landing pad only. But i also love big Ships. even if they need a big load of farming to make them shine.
Now, I own all of the ships in Elite except the Cobra IV. There are some not-as-common ships worth looking at:
Dolphin - fast explorer with insanely low heat.
I agree those are great ships
high jump range DBX gang
Out of curiosity, are you using an AI voice for these videos?
Yes. It's TTS

Mining? With broken pulse wave analyser? No thanks!
You don't need the analyser for laser mining
@@lootandgrind but it's essential for subsurface mining - most important kind of mining, since it is (was) main source of tritium for FCs.
I just love mining so much lol
My main goal for the channel was to help complete newbies.

But I agree with most of your recommendations with some comments
Getting around & exploration: DBX for sure, but it has the interior of a tractor.

You hate the Python? Sorry, We can't be friends lol
@@lootandgrind I hate it because it's over powered and breaks the game.
Also, it has poor view from the cockpit, but that's the only drawback.
@@Cohen.the.Worrier I mean, honestly question, how is it over powered?
