I suffered from HIV anxiety in my mid-20s. I tested several times and it came back always as negative. I couldn't believe it, I just couldn't believe it. It took a toll on my relationship with my boyfriend at the time. On the fourth or fifth occasion, the practitioner at the testing center said to me, Oh dear, you need to see a mental health professional. And she was very right. My HIV anxiety was somehow a symptom of self-esteem issues and a fear of intimacy. Later in life, with a lot of work on my mental health, I was able to develop a healthy mindset and to maintain joyful intimate relationships. I can't stress enough the importance of seeing a mental health professional, especially if you're still scared after multiple negative tests.❤

I lost my father and 12 year old brother to AIDS related illness and I live in a perpetual state of HIV anxiety. It’s been this way since I was 15 and learned their cause of death, it’s very hard. I feel like a prisoner. I have an irrational fear of getting HIV even though I’m now celibate and have always been very careful and meticulous about my sexual health.

Hi. I used to post as The Life. And might again, who knows? Haven’t said hi in awhile. Still On PrEP, no major problems yet, but when I first started on it, I got nausea and even a few episodes of vomiting for a month. One time, I went off it for awhile and had to go through that again, so now I just stay on it. Glad you’re well & great to see a new video!

Hello again! as always, I find it helpful to watch your videos and the way you give advices (so good and your warm actitude is so wonderful). I think we all suffer of this anxiety because of the meaning of the disease, maybe it's not a death synonym but it means stigma and that is what we all have to fight against. I am and anxious person and maybe you don't remember my story in one of your live videos, but what really conforts me is that you are there to help me and help other people. 3 months ago I got my negative results and soon I will do my 6 month check up and I am praying to stay negative. In spite of knowing there is a low percent of delivering a positive result in that period of time, I don't want to be one of that low percent but it is a fear I have to face and the most important thing it's to know my status so I could start my medicine. @@mosseslukhale5939 after the 6 month result (negative) I looked up for professional help with a psychiatrist and a psychologist because besides I knew that the changes of getting a positive result after 3 months were so low, I was in denial trying to look something where there wasn't. And I was losing the sense of living. It's like a ghost haunting you and nobody can see it. So I got a diagnosis for Anxiety and depression. Also, I got a new job and they told me to perform a check up where the hiv test was included and guess what?... Negative. After a year. So my recommendation is: if you got a negative result after 3 months or even 2... You will still negative. Of course, having protected sex during that time!

Quick question, I've heard of a very fast new test that can be very precise after the third day you could have been exposed, and now the 4th gen tests can deliver results after 3-4 weeks with high accuracy, any ideas or comments on that? HIV anxiety is so sad. I lost my virginity at 16 and when my mom found out she literally rushed me to the hospital to be tested for hiv. It was so humiliating and needless to say gave me a lot of shame around sex as well as anxiety around the virus. From age 17 until 34 I convinced myself that I contracted hiv but was too scared to test. I still had boyfriends during this time and felt even more shame and guilt thinking that I was giving these men the virus because I was too scared to test myself. I finally was tested in 2017 and it was negative. That was the most freeing day of my life. I only wish that I had tested sooner. That anxiety robbed me of 17 years of my life, living in constant fear. I hope these people can let go and find peace of mind!

People are in such doubt with HIV testing because of the fact you can look fine and still have it!
I’m here watching your videos because I also believe I have had a recent exposure, I live in Australia, I’m a gay man and I had insertive unprotected sex with someone who’s status I did not know. I had a blood and urine test 2 weeks after potential exposure and tested positive for gonorrhoea and since then I’ve been freaking out (I tested negative for HIV but that’s only 2 weeks after potential exposure so not accurate). I made a stupid decision. I’ve decided to have another blood test 27 days after which is still in the window period but I’m having crippling anxiety about it as I am a high risk individual.
My doctor told me it’s so rare and I get that, but when you’re a high risk person you never know. I’m currently waiting for my results, scared out of my mind.
Now what's the result?

Reading all these comments is making me feel better. I have no symptoms but i saw on Google no symptoms is also a symptom. All i have that is giving me hope is a blood work for full blood count and everything came back normal last year. I have to take the test for my student permit. I am so scared I'm taking anxiety meds. My bf says he tested early last year and he was fine. I have no idea what he has been up to all through the year. But I'm Praying for the best
I think Jennifer misunderstood the woman who talked about promiscuity and condom use. I think she was saying that she and her boyfriend had previously been promiscuous, and when they met each other, they were having sex without condoms. It sounded to me like she was concerned because they had unprotected sex with other people and then with each other.

1st hiv 1 rna quantitative pcr test after 29 days with antibodies.
2nd hiv 1 and 2 eclia antibody test after 2 months.

4th hiv 1 and 2 eclia antibody test after 15 months.

The anxiety is big issue for all of us that concern with the eventual exposures...and hear you helps a lot. Very inspiring way of dealing with it.
I'm on the 6, 5 month mark negative hiv test but will a lot of strange symptoms... Headache, stomach pain, joint pain, vertigo that lasted for a month, one or two times mouth sores... But as I said I've had several tests from rapid to 4th gen and all negative, I've watched your symptom video and recognize lots of same things...., especially the stomach pain that is the most recent symptom.
I would like to hear your opinion.

So even if the body complaint we have to believe that isn't HIV and or the several months of pure stress, fear, anxiety weaked our imune system and it Wil take time to restore it or another bug is causing the complaints...

Do the research about GRID at cdc or why we have hiv battle in court with France?
Why these kind of people never check in with mental Health professionnals. I mean it's obvious that we have here a pure OCD. No matter what, tested or not, people will keep engaging in compulsions(googling, testing compulsively, over self-analysis, you name it). CBT is the best intervention for these kind of obsessions. And i'm not trying to dent the importance of testing, but one test(3 month) should be enough and then CBT with that, the person should be then able to rewire her brain.
I tested negative a month after possible exposure through the rapid test and was on PEP (not prep), and am still nervous for the 3 month follow up.

Even if they know about medication, fear is a very paralyzing thing and if you don't understand how someone might end up in that negative thought loop, you really aren't thinking logically about this.

When TLCs song water falls came out there was a scene in the video suggesting this guy caught aids, it showed some type of scar on his face or on his back i can’t remember & I had something similar. I was convinced I had aids, I would cry & wouldn’t tell anybody why....I was 8 & NOT sexually active yet LMAOOO.

had unprotected sex last march 3 and after 5days march 8 i got mild fever and after 2 days my throat got like feel something stuck , tightness.. like feel swollen but theres nothing really.. but i can eat and drink well no painful or anything discomfort.... got 2 small mouth sore which disappeared 5 days after… nowtoday march 24 low grade fever still occur and often times its gone keep coming on and off.. now i experience heartburn at night and metallic taste partially tasteless and numb tounge.. but the guy i made sex with claimed hes on prep and tested regularly and got his last hiv test real time pcr which is negative last feb 7.. is there any chance this could be hiv acute infection? The first story I can relate too,but that is because I have hypochondria for hiv,I also have depression and have time to time also hiv anxiety,in March I had a pneumonia and I thaught it was a pneumonia caused by fungus related hiv because I am gay Male and had unprotected sex ,and i also had sores in de mouth,candidiasis in the mouth,night sweats,fever and weight loss, suicide thaught and a suicide attempts thinking realy I was hiv positief ,and I was addicted to getting pricked every month because of the anxiety,but after three months ,it was negatif,It turns out mine vitamine d was low ,plus I had stress depression and the pneumonia,so I understand hiv anxiety,its best to talk to a psychologist and its been doing mee good sinds then

Same here, Mate. Your comment is really enlightening. I am a 26 year hetero circumsised man who had sex with a female sex worker on July 29th this year. I tried to contact the girl asking whether she contracted HIV or not but she said she didn't know but she did well like nothing happened to her.
Truth be told, I am really stressed. I mean super stressed. The thought of contracting HIV really limits my activities. Up until now, I continuously have sprues in my mouth about once in two weeks. Do you think the sprues have anything to do with HIV or just because I have high cortisol level in my bloodstream causing my immune system to be suppressed? Oh yeah, I also experience occasional constipation (or not), I used to go bathroom to empty my bowel once a day but now I only go once in two days.

I live in sweden and when I was pregnent -93 I was tested for HIV. EVERY pregnent woman were! Those days before I got my answer were like being in hell. I didn´t feel that I have exposed myself for the virus but WHAT IF!
