Hey everyone :) So much has happened to me and my channel from where this video ends. I actually won an award for my channel recognizing my leadership in HIV/AIDS advocacy from the AIDS Drug Assistance Program presented to me in Washington D.C. September 2018. My story and journey didn't stop with this video.
Visit my main channel page for more on my life with HIV and my TH-cam journey. Over 200 videos uploaded. I am honored to share my journey with you!
    / @pozleigh
ABOUT THIS VIDEO: On February 15, 2016, I was diagnosed with HIV, 1 week later, I was diagnosed with AIDS. This is my documented story of where I was in my life when I found out, what I went through during that time and what has happened since. The entire video was produced and edited by me, a true labor of love. I really hope it gives a clear representation of what it was like to receive this diagnosis and survive having AIDS.
REGARDING THE BLURRED INDIVIDUAL: since our divorce, this individual has asked that he not be represented on my channel and/or videos. I have fulfilled his request, therefore, his image will no longer be associated with me, my channel or HIV.

When entering a new relationship, it's prudent to use condoms till both parties have had STI blood tests. This is what I've always done to stay safe.

I'm 65 and growing up there was no AIDS. Yes there was STD's but nothing that penicillin couldn't fix. STD's was something that was on the other side of the tracks. When AIDS began showing up in the media my generation for the most part were ok with it because we were told only homosexual's could contract it. Misinformation and I guess stupidity took so many people that maybe didn't have to die. Now I think it's imperative that education needs to let the kids of today know how to protect themselves instead of telling them abstanence is the only way.

Hi Jennifer, I've been living with HIV since 1988. I've been through all the meds and the side effects. I've converted to full blown AIDS and gone into remission several times. When I was diagnosed, I was certain I would be dead in 5 years. I threw caution to the wind and lived my life with complete disregard for my health. It took losing the first person I've ever truly loved to make me realize what I was doing. I turned my life around and started taking care of myself. I went back to work as a police officer. A Gay man with HIV a police officer - not heard of in the early years of AIDS. Flash ahead to present day. I am non-detectable, healthy and happy and 59 years old. I retired from the police department as a Captain.
It takes people like you, that refuse to give up, to show people that this is not a death sentence. Unfortunately it took losing the love of my life to turn things around for me. Thank God, there are people like you that are willing to share their story and reach out to help people that are going through what we have been through. It takes incredible courage.
Every time I run to a truly special person that is doing remarkable and selfless things to keep people alive, I like to thank them. Thank you Jennifer.
    We've come a long way!

I dated this girl off and on for a long time and after a pretty long break she insisted I get tested before we have have sex... I didn't, and we had unprotected sex a few times over a the span of a night. A couple days later she goes and gets herself tested. The day after that she calls me and tells me she is positive for Hepatitis B, that I need to get tested, and it's clear she assumes I gave it to her. I get tested and get a call from the nurse the next day... Nothing, all clear, no Hep B. I call my ex and tell her and at this point we are both confused. She gets tested again and tells me that it comes back negative for Hep B and that the first check was just a screw up. She apologizes and tells me she's extremely sorry for blaming me. To this day I don't know if she lied and she actually did have Hep B or if it was just some mistake.

It's not necessarily fear of contracting HIV that makes me (also an EMT) double-glove, but a fear of getting my patient sick. Remember they have severely compromised immune systems. The "good bacteria" from your own breath could kill them.

Shannon Murphy it’s HIV, not “HjV”

I don’t care how clean, nice or “in love” someone seems because “many” people cheat and don’t even have the decency to wear a rubber. I know that just because someone has sex with someone with HIV that it doesn’t necessarily mean the other person will get It but anyhow I can’t imagine what mental hell this beautiful lady has gone thru 💜

My uncle never got his tomorrow and I tell myself the work he did gave other people their tomorrow was worth our loss, they have family to hold, laughter to share and memories to make. And as much as I yearn for him, his heart and ambition to give to others was worth all the heartache.

This is so incredible. For the love of God, I wish that you would have never had to go through this. But I'm grateful that you're doing well.

Always get STI tested before starting a new sexual relationship.

How about just skipping the sexual relationship until real connections are built. Not after a month of texting and dinner dates.. You can get your STI testing but that wont tell you what they've done just before coming to your house or hotel or wherever.. the internet killed real connections.

T Mayo putting 2 condoms on makes them more susceptible to breaking. Only use one and get a good brand and have the correct fit.

XnO.Radio She said a new SEXUAL relationship. She could be dating a person and already has a connection with them. But before she actually has sex with them she gets them tested.

Your story moves me to tears, I am really threatening because I am at risk right now. After one month of exposure to the risk of catching hiv, I got Hiv test in the fourth of July and I am negative. However, I have to go back after 2 months to get another test. I was terrified, so worry, and your story helps me a lot. Thank you so much. I know I'm still at risk but even if I have hiv like you, I will take you as an example so that I can fight my sickness. You are so brave and kind.

I was not expecting to click on this video to have a huge wave of emotions hit me on this morning at work. Good thing i have a private cube as I was hit with tears of saddness and then joy. Thank you for your story. You're a hero to so many!

Jennifer, I don't know your life in depth, but I praise you for the courage to come out and speak your truth! This COULD NOT have been easy! I hope this helps at least one person to see that "normal" people can get HIV without being crazed drug addicts and without running around sleeping with every person they can get their hands on! If you have sex ONE TIME with someone who is infected, it can happen! Thank you for your bravery in telling your story and I hope that you are thriving, surviving and fighting! Keep going and keep your head up Jennifer!
