    The pm2 is a very cool platform. Spyderco does a great job with the blade steel varients and scale combos. Plus the aftermarket is full of mod options. Great review 👍

      The great job with blade steel one is debatable, they seem to favour VERY brittle steels most of all which chip like no tomorrow under real hard use and aren't tough at all. I guess they're catering to all those people who just want to cut thousands of boxes without sharpening and nothing else but for people like me who beat on their knives hard and daily a lot of the steels they use are simply no good at all, they cost far more and chip and even snap far too easily compared to other steels. I wish they wouldn't focus on the edge retention as much and give us some tougher blades, I don't care about having to sharpen them more often, a sharp blade is useless if you take chunks out of the edge or snap it in half lol

    Yea from me! I only have 1 s45vn, but it gets some mileage. It’s acid washed and been sharpened a couple times. You could probably switch it with S35Vn and I’d never know. I’d love to see what mods you and Alex come up with.

    I keep seeing all these videos with the PM2. So curiosity finally got the best of me and I just ordered a PM2 with blue g10 and in S110V. Really hope its as food as it seems to be. Let's see if it gets as much pocket time and my Medford or AD10&15. Loving the videos and keep up the great work. Between you,MC and Neeves I always have good content to watch.

    I got this version of the Para 3 (black g10 w/ stonewashed S45VN blade) and love it. Just grabbed a PM2 w/ digi camo g10 scales w/ black coated S45VN blade and I like it, but the kick on the blade hits the tip of my index finger when I close the blade (kind of like the Shaman supposedly does) and that bugs the shit out of me!

      @@DirkWerning I have noticed it is different on some models like the para3 to em feels better than the pm2 as the pm2 has a bit of blade that sort of hits ya in the finger while you're holding down the compression lock- lockbar... I can’t bear down on the knife (which is what I see the pm2 as a tool for - work use) without the lock wiggling and I have to remind myself to back off of it, or choke up enough to have my hand almost above the cutting edge while using the front finger choil. I can’t use a classic hammer grip with it. But I have an affinity for them.

    Im stuck on spyderco's spy27 at 62hrc it gets classified with s35vn but it's definitely better in my experience, tougher and sharpens up much easier. I mean why s45vn when we have so many better options as regular production steels i.e. Cruwear, k390, s90v.. Im good with those three and never had a problemwith rust and i live near a humid coastal area.

    Slight correction to your statement about compression locks vs. liner locks.
    A liner lock wedges a piece of steel between the blade tang and lock point.
    A compression lock wedges a piece of steel between the rear tang and a stop pin. The compression lock is more like a bearing or axis lock than a traditional liner lock. Compression locks are stronger than liner locks.

    • @DirkWerning
      @DirkWerning  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes there are some differences between the two types of locks. I was more getting to the point that it was similar for anyone unfamiliar with them. Thanks for clarifying.

    I'm biased so take this with a grain of salt, but personally I've never experienced any issues with the compression lock, no matter which way I handle/deploy the knife. Never had it fail, never accidently bumped it or anything, and this is my hard use work knife. Might be one of those knives you try out first before you buy it to see if it fits your hand well. Anyway great video, just wanted to add my 2 cents

    Just got my first Spyderco....A pm2 in brown micarta scales and cpm cruwear. I really think it is a great knife 🔪!...Excellent quality blade with a great factory edge. I see in your video you like to tumb flick it open yet my is brand new so its still a little tight and find it much easier to either use my pointer or middle finger to flick it open!...And then you would not feel the compression lock move to the right against your hand! ...The best thing about it is just how solid the lock up feels!...There is absolutely NO blade play at all rock solid 👌!

    Now that I've sharpened a couple of chips out of the edge of my S110V PM2, I want a tougher though still stainless steel on the same platform for some applications. Looks like I might end up picking up a stock PM2 now that they've switched to S45VN.
    I do suppose Spyderco will do a sprint or dealer exclusive PM2 in MagnaCut at some point though. 🤔

      I gave up on stainless the cruwear is my favourite so far spyderco uses way too many brittle steels all anyone cares about is edge retention these days for some reason and toughness doesn't even seem to be something they value which for me is odd as I'll take a tough as nails blade I need to sharpen a little more often than one that chips and snaps if you so much as look at it wrong any day of the week.

    • @PoetFisherman
      @PoetFisherman ปีที่แล้ว

      @MDM I am slowly coming around to this. For me it depends on the use case for the blade. I definitely see the case for non stainless on fixed blades and more rugged use oriented folders

    • @nickallen8333
      @nickallen8333 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@johnnysilverhand1733 Because it just doesn’t offer that much over a steel like S45VN. It’s slightly tougher and slightly more corrosion resistant but the S45VN and S30V are going to hold their edge longer. I guess magnacut makes more sense in a fixed blade where you would need the extra toughness but honestly I’d rather sacrifice the stainless and go with something ultra tough like cruwear in a fixed blade.
      If we are being 100 percent honest majority of users will never need the extra stainless and toughness properties traded for the loss in edge retention. I think Spyderco is on the money offering magnacut as a “salt” steel because in reality that’s its most practical application but only in the presence of salt water. Magnacut is just a little bit more well rounded as a steel.. It’s just that we have so many great steels that incremental improvements are now seen as ground breaking and everyone runs out to spend hundreds of dollars on a steel that is honestly, well.. Overrated imo.
