Great video! Something we’ve noted at my work (different manufacturer), a lot of the websites selling counterfeits of our knives will often take images directly from our website and use those to sell counterfeits.
When you are able, please buy from an authorized dealer.
Yeah scammers are often lazy, wouldnt be a big deal to take new pics of the fakes but ive seen that often as well using stock images...
I got a fake a few years back from eBay and the thing that made me question its authenticity was misspellings in the actual paperwork with the knife. I ended up sending it back and just getting a Delica from a reputable dealer. Good video!

Guessed it by the position of the tip up pocket clip holes! Angle was slightly different if I’m not mistaken.
Another TH-camr bought one of these on purpose and tested the steel. Analyzer results were 9CR14MOV. IMO, Not bad for 25 bucks. The clones are getting so good that it's hard to justify paying $$175 for a knife that gives 20% better performance for an 700% premium. I'm capable of sharpening my knives so the edge retention thing really doesn't float my boat. And with the massive inflation, $5 gas, and cost of living I really can't afford to lose $175 pocket knives anymore.

I can tell by the belly shape and slight colour shift in the blade for being S30V. The angled grind is inconsistent on older Pm2s.
On the hole? Mine doesn’t line up, but everything else is good 😭😂

Word to the wise, every major brand has some douche bags making knock offs of them and selling them on Ebay. Almost got duped with Arcteryx and a Para 3. I'm done buying used "high ticket" items on Ebay at this point.
How was lockup, centering, etc on the fake? Assuming it was pretty good or you’d have pointed it out. Also, is it just me or is the blade shape slightly different?
I got a fake ZT knife from AliExpress about a year ago now (by accident btw); I ordered something else, but they sent me the fake ZT by mistake. Anyway, when I first opened the box, much like your earlier Black PM2 experience, I had no idea it was fake at the time. It wasn't until after I did some research that I came to discover it was a forgery and not an authentic Zero Tolerance knife...

Final clue: You ordered it on Alibaba for $11 shipped to your house! :) Seriously though, this is a great video but PLEASE be aware that there are different fakes out there and some are less obvious than Jeff's. For example, my known fake has the comma after Golden and while the Sal/Eric logos are still a little off, they are much better placed than what Jeff is showing in this vid. My fake's Spyderco logo is also slightly more triangular but not nearly as bad as Jeff's. The locking mechanism differences are the best things to look at, imo, as thats still obviously different on mine and follows what Jeff showed. The pivot screw is different too but thats hard to tell unless they are side by side. My fake is a few years old so they could be even better/more accurate now. Interestingly enough, my fake has better blade centering than my real one but it also is a lot less smooth and cant find the sweet spot in opening and blade/play.
I have a lc200n spyderco from Japan and it has the logo more like the fake.i got it from dlt so I'm sure it's real. It's my only Japan made knife is that normal?

Thanks for this video.I just received a black PM2 from Amazon, and according to this video, it’s either legit, or one of the best fakes ever made. It’s sharp enough to shave with. There isn’t a knife shop close by, but browsing the Spyderco forums, there are some good reputable online dealers that are safer than Amazon. I didn’t realize that fakes were so common. Last time I will ever order a blade from Amazon. Thanks for making this video. I’m breathing easier now.
I ended up getting a fake one. It's actually a great knife and keeps a great edge. Debating on an actual PM2 or PM3
I have owned a para 3 for a few months now. It’s a great knife and I love it. I got the s110v steel and it holds an edge great. I still don’t know why so many people go for the para 2 vs the para3. Maybe someone will let me know

Only issue is this shows the scammers what to update.
they know whats not right they just cant afford to do it the right way otherwise they would just charge the normal price lol eventually they may have it look perfect but just have a crappy blade steel
lol, I could tell by the screw color difference which one was fake. And once you brought them up close the scale contours make it obvious if you’ve ever had a real one.
If your spyderco pm2 steel scratches that easy. You most likely have a fake. Only pm2 I have is a smokey mountain knife works lava flow coated m4. But have quite a few pm3s. And most of the steels won't scratch easily at all
Well crap, because of your well presented video it has come to my attention that I have been sold a very good fake. However the little things make the difference. I have a dot instead of a coma, the machining isn't squared off on the blade near the back, and the scales are as you described. There's always a sucker somewhere.

Man, a really good video. This is a difficult thing because not only are the fakes changing and improving but, ugh, the Para 2 is not exactly the same over time. At any rate, I bought a Para 3 on eBay that is actually a Para 2. I could tell that quickly. My thinking immediately went to "well if this isn't a Para 3, it is probably fake as well". I paid a bit less than $100 for an S45VN Para 2 and, after much research, I"m 98% sure this is authentic. Thanks in part to the many great videos on the topic. As to the Chinese fakes, this is not a business model, this is immoral, deceitful, and wrong. If they think there is no accounting in eternity.....they are wrong.

With these damn "superclones" the only way to tell is the steel doesn't keep an edge for any amount of time. I had a fake delica.. I was robbed...didn't know, but it would dull after going through one water heater box. Even the g1 versions stayed sharp longer than that. Had to be cheap stainless. Otherwise, everything was spot on...except the box...the silver stripe went through the hole in the spider logos head. Dead giveaway with the boxes. They also tend to reuse the same serial numbers

I spotted the fake right away because the thumbhole was too small.
Of course, it did help to see the real one with the proper sized thumbhole right beside it.

The earth is closer together on the real one not spaced out on it, somethings they fixed that u can't knotice that's the same on my clone they sold me but the dot instead of calma is on mine so it's fake and the G10 is plastic instead of like a sharp cloth, lock does have a space so they fixed that and the spider Co logo is also fixed same as on the real one, so if they fix the scales an calma we are screwed lol mine even is centered but fed giveaway is the blade shape is totally different I'll show a pic of it

I always look for a notch in the liners. Fakes don’t have the notch.

Etsy is pumping out fakes from Bulgaria like crazy. By the store’s comments people are buying them thinking they’re real. They’re quite good fakes.
If it looks cheap and cheesy, its a fake. Lol
My bottom line… if you think you’re getting a deal, you aren’t. It’s not worth it to spend $50 on a clearly $180 knife (or more) and get a fake knife. Take the time and save the money and buy the real thing.
