Check out his official live video of his song Haunted House. That song blows me away. Its raw emotion and authenticity are palpable. Awe-some.
Noah is criminally underrated and bafflingly little-known. Thank you for including him on your platform! He’s a phenomenal artist and performer. I saw him perform this song (the only cover of the night) in Detroit last fall. Honestly the best live music experience I’ve had in at least 5 years.
Been a Noah fan since I first heard his song Family on Sons of Anarchy. Immediately looked him up and couldn’t believe he was so young. That voice. I started going to his shows, he always took the time to talk to people after the show. He’s very quiet, deliberate, and humbled off stage. His sister, Abby, is an amazing musician too. Recently he shared that he contemplated giving up music which is heartbreaking. Luckily, he didn’t and released a new album last year. I always find something in his music to relate to. And that voice, it’s comforting and haunting and heartbreaking at the same time. Hearing his evolve as a musician, writer, and human has been an experience and I’m lucky to be around to share in these moments. So glad you featured him live, doing what he does, connecting with people in our shared human experience

I discovered Noah in February and have been completely obsessed with his music ever since. He is all I have been listening to since then. Once every ten years or so, one of those life-defining favorite artists comes along and absolutely changes my world - Noah is the latest for me. Just absolutely incredible.
As I watch this, I'm remembering the night I was watching SNL in 1994 while I was in college and Counting Crows played this song and it absolutely blew my mind. Changed my world right on the spot. I will never forget that moment or that feeling. When you discover a new artist that change your world forever. There are before and after moments of hearing a song that changes your DNA, that performance of theirs on SNL playing Round Here was that moment for me. Just unforgettable.
Absolutely feel the same way. Noah is one of the few artists I can listen to anytime, anywhere and never get tired of him. He has brought so much quality music and still continues to deliver.
I never clicked so quickly, so glad you picked this one. I've followed Noah for years and have enjoyed his journey. I finally got to see him play live a couple of years ago in an old church in Bristol, England, and it was simply phenomenal. I flew from Ireland just for the gig and it was something I won't forget.
I’ve heard this song 1000s of times and it’s one of my most favorite - and I never thought I would say it, but Noah, with his raw energy and authenticity, lifted this to a whole new level. Michael, your reviews and insight of your personal experiences are so valuable, thanks for that!

Life's experiences take us all in different places. You did this video justice. Props to you and the anchors that only you know how to carry brother. Much Love
I truly believe that August and Everything After is the most unbelievably perfect work of art of the 90s. It may be the greatest I’ve ever heard. My musical tastes span from Hip-Hop, to “Jam Bands,” to Post-Rock, to Alt Country, to Jazz. But I truly believe the lyrics and delivery and musicality of this album is an all-timer.
Just replied.......this is in my top ten of all time. I put this on whenever I have a road trip and just let it play. The production of this album is masterful.
Hell yeah. So glad you found this one. And yeah, I've been listening to this song for 30 years without actually hearing it. You always drop something on us to remind us what the chase is about. Be well brother and keep doing what you're doing. I appreciate you more than you know. 🙏
Absolutely! Noah’s done it. Better than original. Cried all the way through. Noah is a storyteller, he fills each lyric with a memory n allows that memory to take on a different meaning for anyone listening to his voice. It’s haunting and fkn beautiful. Love u Noah. 🖤
One of the best covers ever - the best Counting Crows cover I've heard. Noah is a true trailblazer. Trapeze Swinger cover by Gregory Alan Isakov is one I wholeheartedly recommend too
I always understood the lyrics. the line "she knows she more than a little misunderstood" hit me like a ton of bricks when this came out, but in my middle age, a lot of songs have come back to me with renewed understanding. Great cover, great video.❤
I'm lucky #250 on the thumbs up for this video :D I just wanted to say Mike, you're just as much a therapist as you are an excellent musician and teacher. I really enjoy watching your reactions, but even more I'm pleased with your ability to make a person feel much less alone through your sincerity/honesty in a simple video. I’ve heard this song hundreds of times and never fully paid attention to the lyrics. Phenomenal song. Phenomenal performance. Going to immediately listen to more of Noah. Keep doing what you do, Michael.
This is the video that got me into Noah. I am glad I saw that video. He is an *amazing* songwriter and I hope he gets all the success he wants. He just moved to Nashville, and I am rooting for him. Thanks for posting this.
I have had this cover on repeat for a long time now, and to see you talk about it made me so happy! This has always been my favorite CC song and he absolutely nailed it.
I started listening to Noah in 2008 when I was in middle school. One of my favorite memories was seeing him play live in a room of just 20 people. He was such a kind man. I'm 28 now and still listen to him every day
So stoked to finally see Noah on here. The dude is an absolutely stellar songwriter and performer. His music oozes emotion, so much so that you can see the emotional rollercoaster he goes through when he plays his music live. It would be awesome to see you check out some of his original material.
His delivery is passionate. He feels the song and he's moved by the lyrics (and they are great lyrics). But also the musical arrangement adds depth and colour - the heavy reverb/ delay on the guitar brings out those soaring notes. This is a great cover perfectly delivered.
I was a music major in college, and I so appreciate, breaking down the quality and the intensity and the intelligence of the music. People that don’t love music don’t understand that it’s all encompassing. It’s all I can do to listen without totally falling apart especially on this song.
First saw the Crows in 94 at The Greek. Loved them then, love them now. Love them forever. And yes, the lyrics mean more and more, 30 years later. But man. What a cover! Bravo.
The song character Maria clearly means something to Noah. And 'she' very clearly meant something to Adam Duritz, because the character was recurring on the album 'August and Everything After' and elsewhere in his impressive catalog of songs. And it really doesn't matter if Maria is a 'real' person. Clearly she's real to Noah. Great reaction to a great performance of a great song by a great lyricist.
Not sure if you care, but in case someone does: Adam has said that Maria is an internal distaff counterpart that he, basically, created as a muse to talk through his lyrics with. Worth noting he's stated he has dissociative disorder, which, among other things, creates a mental (and emotional?) separation between experience and emotion. From what I've heard, the line "I walk through the air/between the rain/through myself/and back again" is a perfect description of the sensation. In that understanding, Maria as a idea to place that experience upon makes a lot of sense, IMO. It's probably difficult if not impossible to associate it with oneself as effectively in such a situation.
I F-ING LOVE YOU MP --- Always introducing me to just epic and beautiful renditions and artists. This song was the firt ever song we played in our band and I use to try and belt it out and then watched this 25 odd yers later and had tears falling down my face. F-Yeah Real Men Cry!
No dry eyes on this side of the keyboard, what a powerful performance. Like you, Michael I've heard this song countless times, but it takes that one artist, that one version to make it mean something more than what it was before to each one of us. As, always, your insight is always worth the time and it never fails to shed just a little more light on the creative mind. Thank you.
This is what music is all about. Your words really helped me today Michael, thank you. My best friend decided to end his life a year ago and I've been struggling since.
One of the first songs that really hit me hard growing up. This cover does Adam and the band proud. God I love this channel/community. Oh nice! Love Noah. I've run sound for him before, he's friends with friends of mine. Or at least he used to be like 15 years ago. Cool to see his name pop up on your channel
I have loved that song for a long time by the Counting Crowes, I grew up with it as Micheal did but the way Noah presented it was very special. As a musician, I love to see the feelings different people get from music and that is something that is truly on display with this video. Very well done!
Yes, it is Counting Crows. And ever since this album came out, and to this day, I feel like more than one song from this album are perfect examples of poetry in music. The album is called August And Everything After, and it's one of my all time favorites.
Amazing find!! I am so blessed to be part of your community Michael! Counting crows fan since the 90´s and never heard of Noah Gundersen. What a Cover, So much energy flowing through the air. Keep doing what you love, you made my day!
Dude, the performance was amazing by Noah and between his performance and your perspective on creating art that you shared in the first 3rd of the video, I felt very inspired. Started creating a painting.. I play guitar too… but this inspired visual art for me. Thanks for the inspiration 😎🤘
I found this randomly a couple months ago. I liked CC back when they came out and always thought August and Everything After was always a bit slept on, but over the years I hadn't listened to it much. I watched this the first time speechless and with tears streaming down my face. Just so powerful.
Yesterday I heard Noah's cover for the first time. One of the best covers I've heard in a very long time, if not the best. I'm going to go back and listen purposely to every Counting Crows lyrics.❤
Its the emotion he puts into the song. Singers who can do this reach right into our hearts and sole. This song is an amazing story and with the right teller, it hits us in areas that not many songs can do. After 48 years of listening to music, I feel complete now..... thanks to Noah.
Love everything you do, Michael - but WOW! Thank you for putting this out there... and reminding me to stop and smell the roses. What a blessing - I'm better for having heard this, today.
Wow. I was not expecting to like this, and I'm here with tears in my eyes. One of my favorite songs, which became kinda overplayed on the radio. I got to hear it for the first time again. Incredible.
I especially love the key he sings catch me if I'm falling at the end and also I'm under the gun. Just wonderful level of understanding of meaning. An incredible cover that really deserves its dues
It's a great cover by Noah, and your commentary is always so profound. The raw emotion in your own eyes as you experience something like this, and I'm here for that as well as the great music.
When they 1st came out in Top 40 I wasn't yet digging on what was replacing what we called rock n roll. As my life fell to pieces I began paying more attention to lyrical value rather than guitar, percussion, time signature, tempo, and such. Counting Crowes, particularly this song helped understand where, when, and how healing begins. After all these years, the struggle continues as embarrassing as it is but this 1 is still on my play list. This guy has done a perfect and well honored cover of a song that matters to every one of us despite our individual plight.
I've been watching your videos for two years now. Just awesome content! I've learned so many things in terms of music and the meaning of lyrics. I've been a guitar player for 30 years now. Cheers, Chris
Every time I play this song live I introduce it as the greatest opening track on any album, ever. As a songwriter I say this is the song i've been chasing my whole life. When Noah said that, I was like, hell ya.
I loved this song for years, but this version is so awesome…gave me chills. You can tell this guy is singing from his soul and absolutely loves this song also.
I feel a bit like an idiot… I’ve been a guitargate lifetime member for a few years now and I watch all of your videos. They are always beautiful, moving re-learning experiences for me because I have nearly everything someone suggests already in my playlist. I really need to make a submission on the next performance I fall in love with because Noah killed me with this cover. Actually using the word “cover”’is rude because he feels every note, every lyric, every second because he’s loved it. Sold. Done. I first watched it a couple weeks after it came out and I notice and takeaway more every time; but, it’s so captivating I literally haven’t taken away the chords because it’s so powerful I get lost just listening, captivated. Thank you Michael for having flawless taste, your undying humility in admitting you’re open to anything and haven’t heard it all. You’re real to your core because it’s just who you are… my mother is 67 and a faithful subscriber of yours because she says she’s never seen anyone ready to music so wildly close to my own completely genuine, unabashed, raw emotion as you. The words flow out of your mouth because it’s truth and you can’t help it. Keep doing what you’re doing, my friend. We are so lucky to have you and this was a really beautiful breakdown and reaction. Thank you Noah for reminding me why I loved Counting Crows but more importantly making me fall in love with this song for the first time all over again.
And by the way... ‘WE’ was absolutely accurate. So well said, ‘can someone/anyone see through this crazy and just see me?. We don’t get to pick what people feel about what we make but I think when you find someone who feels something so akin to what you’re intending you feel seen and that’s the stuff
Love you Michael. I, normally, just re-watch OVER and OVER my favorites where I first discovered you (first with Oliver Anthony and then late with Ren). I figure that your other stuff is just as great (because of your empathy and intelligence). But, I am checking this out because you can only watch the other stuff only a few thousand times. Of course, this is a great reaction/commentary! Thanks. Appreciate it!
Michael you have turned me on to so many of those artists who live and thrive doing their own thing their way. They may not be popular as in mainstream, but that is fine by me, because when they sing those songs that are so personal and stab your heart and speak out loud and relate about all the demons we carry in our souls in a way no video can ever capture. What ever Noah's demons may be, he confronts them head on Thanks for what you do for the Travis Meadows and Noah Gundersons. Keep posting and I will keep watching. I appreciate you brother. 🙏
You are great guitar teacher!. I’ve learn so much from you! My one piece of feedback would be to say the name of the song at start of every video. Remember people are hearing this music for the first time. Keep up the great work!!
I saw Noah perform this song live in Lawrence, KS. Blew me away,......But he always blows me away. I've seen him live 10 times now. I agree with one of the previous comments that Noah is the most underrated artists of my time.
I became a fan of this song and Noah several months ago. Absolutely UNREAL cover. Its a whole different song when he sings it. I tried going back to listen to the CC version and it just isnt the same song. Noah's version has life, power, and FEELING to it. Its incredible.
You should watch his song Heavy Metals from the same gig. Noah has loads of banging songs. He should be a mega star… and may still do that.. a proper songwriter and performer
Age and life only makes CCs lyrics resonate more. They mean more now than when you were in high school.

Thank you for making this. So many musicians would benefit from hearing your words.
The delivery is what makes this special.
You need to check out more of Noahs stuff. Super talented songwriter. His newest album is brilliant, especially haunted house!
you can tell this guy lived this song for sure.. such passion
I found this randomly a couple months ago. I liked CC back when they came out and always thought August and Everything After was always a bit slept on, but over the years I hadn't listened to it much. I watched this the first time speechless and with tears streaming down my face. Just so powerful.
I couldn't stop crying..Thank you
You introduce me to the best music I might never have come across on my own! Thank you!
Saw this video again for nth time again the other and thought Mike should do this one..... like magic! I love music, just wish I had more time.
Haunting. Seriously one of the most superb performances…
It's a great cover by Noah, and your commentary is always so profound. The raw emotion in your own eyes as you experience something like this, and I'm here for that as well as the great music.
yessss. One of the best songwriters ever! Huge influence for me
When they 1st came out in Top 40 I wasn't yet digging on what was replacing what we called rock n roll.
Excellent find and excellent discussion Michael. Great song! I don’t know this guy but I will know more about him in the next hour or two. 👍🏼👍🏼
Good job bringing us true music Mike…..thanks buddy.. youve got the best stuff on u tube
100% with you on this one! Phenomenal cover full of emotion and passion. Love your work! Keep it up!
OOOOOOOoh so glad you checked this - agreed this is an INCREDIBLY LOVING cover. Blew my mind - but of course from Noah!!! Another troubadour!!!
Michael. Thank you for making me aware of this cover.
Wow. This performance gave me chills! I'm gonna have to listen to more Counting Crows!
Totally awesome performance! I see it differently now. Thanks.....
The emotion he brought is insane. Brilliant performance.
What ever Noah's demons may be, he confronts them head on
Thanks for what you do for the Travis Meadows and Noah Gundersons. Keep posting and I will keep watching. I appreciate you brother. 🙏
Really awesome I always loved this song
Best cover of it ever
