The Gorgon ProtoMech, introduced in 3060 under the banner of Clan Smoke Jaguar, has transcended its origins to become a symbol of heavy fire support among various Clans. Following the fall of Clan Smoke Jaguar, the Gorgon gained prominence within Clan Star Adder and subsequently found acceptance across Clan Jade Falcon, Clan Nova Cat, and Clan Snow Raven.
Overview:
Designed as a formidable heavy fire support ProtoMech, the Gorgon occupies a central role in mixed ProtoMech Points. Its firepower, primarily derived from the dominant LRM-10 launcher, established the concept of a "main gun" - a hand-supported weapon mount affixed to its torso. This innovative design choice, necessitated by Clan Smoke Jaguar engineers, addresses the substantial size of its primary weapon. While renowned for its substantial armor protection, second only to the heavy Minotaur in its category, the Gorgon operates within the constraints of limited ammunition.
Weapons and Equipment:
The Gorgon's primary armament consists of a standard LRM-10 launcher, delivering firepower comparable to a Valkyrie BattleMech. For close-quarters engagements, an ER Micro Laser serves as a defensive deterrent while the ProtoMech relocates for LRM launcher reloads. Propelled by a fusion engine, the Gorgon achieves a cruising speed of 43 km/h, complemented by armor capable of withstanding a full SRM-6 volley to the chest.
The Gorgon's legacy lies in its pivotal role as a cost-effective LRM ProtoMech, offering flexibility in force composition for tailored LRM support without exorbitant costs.
