I can see their value at the company level and above, using as a floating support to support other units. Perfect for Hell's Horses combined arms. Still, personally not a big fan of a few SRM 1's as the weapons system. Feel like perhaps some elementals attached to infantry units or a few light stars might be more useful, even if more costly over all.
Wonderful video! Orcs are thus far the one and only Protomech I’ve fielded, and I love them in both BattleTech and Alpha Strike. The good speed, slightly-stronger-than-paper armor and cheap price makes them excellent at capturing objectives and harassing operations behind the enemy battle line. I’ve liked using Orc 4s as they have just enough TMM and armor that they usually aren’t great targets, allowing them to run around and cause mischief relatively freely - as long as the limited ammo bins allow, that is. They’re also so cheap that a Point of Orcs can be slotted into just about any Clan force in BattleTech. More costly and probably frankly more useful in Alpha Strike, but still a Point of them is only the price of a single Clan mech. Plus, you get the unique advantage of getting to yell ”WAAAAGH” every time you activate your Orcs, causing untold psychological damage to your poor opponents (don’t do this). I have a hankering for more Protomechs after my experience with Orcs. Love em!
I have had a lot of fun using the Ore as a Protomech hunter killer loaded with inferno’s. The little gremlin points are normally considered when I want to play with a clan light mech but lack the BV. A mixed point of Minotaur P2’s or Procyon Quads. The Star is 100% mixed with mechs, vehicles, and battle armor. With mechs like the Hellstar and vehicles like the Kokou to make holes and the SRM protos to crit fish. Tandem Charged SRM’s are the untold special ammo for these units. When a player must struggle vs heavier armored opponents.
I feel like 2 and 3 aren't worth the bother. There are better LRM protomechs, and upgunning to 5 SRM tubes costs not only armor, but 25% of ammo. The 4 feels useful though, being able to attack infantry with machine guns and heavier targets like vehicles with the SRM 3.
I enjoy all of AGS 363 videos 🎉😊😊
