Great Tips, but sounds complicated ... How about using some "swing", and your sound timbre suggestion for the hi hats and kicks, and layer your hi hats, then add some positive "offset" to your liking on (1) of the layers, to give it a natural sounding bounce flow, works on kicks too... Just my 2 cents to keep beat making fun and not so technical... My suggestion also depends on the type of music one produces....trap vs hip hop vs boom bap...etc etc...#Salute
