    ahhh to address these comments…i didn’t say at any point at all that i agree with BTS’ success being “inorganic,” i read the assumption and then admitted i used to engage in streaming culture, that it’s a crazy thing, and that you should check out my other video. not sure where you guys are getting the idea that i think their success is strictly stream culture based because i definitely said nothing about it, the person writing the assumption did. i absolutely do notttt wanna invalidate their hard work because they’ve come so far in so many ways with so many disadvantages in general, and i understand exactly why kpop fans work so hard to support their favorites!! just wanted to say something

Claiming that someone is lying about their sexuality or gender is so damaging whether it’s gay,straight, pan, bi or anything else you are free to label yourself as. I get that someone in the community want’s a big idol of their’s in the community too but there’s a ton of awesome celebs out there who are out loud and proud that they can look up to.

    People seem to have made it their mission to prove that BTS are ruining the charts however the system was broken to start with. With native English speaking acts the fans are not forced to stream, because their faves are given radio play. However most non-white/non-English speaking acts, arent, or are given less. Plus is wasn’t until recently that bundles were banned from the charts. Bundles are basically when a company will include an album (digital or physical) with a sale of another merchandise such as a shirt or hoodie. This used to count towards charts and wasn’t banned till very recently. That means that chart manipulation was the norm and now your faves can’t chart without it. While others where charting with the help of their company’s mass buying albums and including bundles, BTS never did, yet each year and comeback they raised higher and higher on the charts. It is evident when a song has been manipulated to get to the top, a song will be number one (usually upon debut) then falls within the next week. This is because the company stops buying after getting their number one. This however isn’t the case with bts. Even when dynamite stayed # one the charts for three weeks then fell, it only fell to number two, then rose again. This is how a song organically rises and falls. If it was Taylor Swift or another white English speaking artist y’all would be praising them, but instead bts as called chart manipulators. The charts are so broken that now, when a hard working foreign group succeeds, we as a society think this is impossible. I know this is really long, but some people need to understand what the situation is before sharing their opinions. Plus+ if it were any other fan base streaming no one would care, just like they never have. If your are against bts’ success, make sure it’s not just not just because they don’t speak the same language as you 🤷‍♀️

    *to everyone commenting about the inorganic streaming thing* i understand where you're coming from, but i'm pretty sure she didn't sound it in a mean way and she literally said it's something that has always been there in mainstream fanbases so i think it's clear that she was referring to the "fans" who always rely on streams for their idol's success. like the people who, somewhere in between, forget what music was meant for and just want to compete and compare their success with the rest of the artists, create fanwars, to feel superior about their own fanbase. she wasn't referencing to any one fanbase alone but in general.

    • @Sayu_rinrin
      @Sayu_rinrin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      I do understand the point of the person who sent this assumption, but I think when it comes to BTS it’s a little unfair to assume it’s an inorganic growth considering the fact they have a clear disadvantage compared to western artists when it comes to radio plays and from what I see the fandom is just trying to compensate that problem through streams. They’ve being in this game for 8 years already, since 2013, they have the largest fandom in the world for a reason but they only got recognized by the western media in recent years all thanks to the organization of their fans to make them be seeing by the general public, if it wasn’t for that I highly doubt they would have that same exposure “organically” not because their songs isn’t great but because the media already prove themselves to be extremely xenophobic towards BTS. I think the fandom “relies” on streams and sales because they can’t fully rely in anything else to prove their impact since BTS don’t have the same privilege as other white and English speaker artists to be well accept by the media on their own. Just a reflection.

      @Eunoia Flowersss In BTS' case, it is their fans that are pushing and spreading their music by streaming, because they love the music. They are fans, that is why they stream it.
      In a lot of other cases it is labels pushing the artist. This is no secret, it is also no secret how bts has been actively ignored by parts of the industry, even when the demand for them is so big (which is also shown by the concerts and requests for radioplay, etc.)
      I guess, you tell me what is more "organic". In my eyes it is when fans do it, bc they do it bc they care and not bc they are getting paid for it. But we can agree to disagree.
      Dont get me wrong, i can see where you are coming from. Parts of music industry media are giving this a lot of attention in articles about how army's streaming is "inorganic", which shows how certain parts of the industry are discontent with how this is being done. So you might be right: something might eventually be done about this. Kind of sad tho that if that were to be true, it would be as a reaction to fan streaming of non western music, rather than a reaction to all the unsavory practices in the western music industry and a type of reform that would take on the problems by its root.
      I also think a lot of times army's (and even BTS' (which is infuriating)) intentions are being misrepresented when people talk about army streaming practices. People have said it isnt about BTS' music anymore, and only about fans stroking their own ego when they win first place. Which is not at all what i have seen in the army environment on twitter that i have been in. It has always been about repaying and appreciating BTS, giving them the recognition they deserve in an industry that has been trying to keep that away from them (and therefore having to learn how the system works) and having fun listening to the music that we love throughout the day. 🤷‍♀️
      Besides that (not necessarily directed to you), "mass streaming is inorganic" is one take, but "their careers are so inorganic" (which is what the op in the video put), is a whole nother take that is honestly utterly ridiculous and shows that BTS' story is perceived so entirely differently from reality by someone who doesnt really know them. In that sense, even though i dont want to gatekeep or anything, but it becomes a bit harder to take their opinion into consideration when they go on to say something like that.
      Hope this comment doesnt come off too aggressive, I dont intend it too.

    I think the K-pop industry as a whole is pretty corrupt. Most people are recruited fairly young, sign contracts that basically sell their souls away, and they're stuck in that life for a very long time. I do genuinely like most of the songs I've heard, but I can't get over the performing until they pass out, performing while injured, constant rehearsals, their whole lives being broadcasted for money. Not to mention constantly having fans thirst over them. I know people could argue "it's what they signed up for" and I"m sure some of them enjoy it but is a life you signed up for in High School where millions are obsessing over you (sometimes in very creepy ways) really going to make you happy in the long run? It's like the agencies they work for own them, and it's terrible.

    bts fans do stream the hell out of their songs. most big fandoms do, and whether you think it’s unfair or not is up to you but i can understand why a lot of people find it annoying. on the other hand, saying their career isn’t organic is 100% untrue and disrespectful. they’ve been steadily growing since they debuted in 2013 and starting getting popular in west in 2017. they’ve been getting top 10 hits for a few years before they ever got their first #1. they’ve come a very long way. also, a big fandom IS success. if it was only their fans getting them hits then i’d say having a fandom that powerful is something to be proud of, although it definitely comes with a lot of toxicity and issues

    It’s crazy how people look down upon streaming figures. Yes, only artists with incredibly large fan bases reap the most benefits from streams, but it comes with the continual advancement of technology. In 2018 more than half of UK record labels income came from streaming and that figure just rises every year. It’s just the future…

      Obviously, there are loop holes, but we’re in the digital age, so I don’t get why some refuse to move with technological advancements or pretend that streams don’t also represent listeners. In the UK in 2018 more than half of the music industry’s income came from streaming. It’s like the way we moved from records, to tapes, to cassettes, to CDs. Streams are just a reality, yes an artist with the biggest fandom benefits the most, but that’s the reality of life. Someone always has the advantage.

    BTS fans definitely do stream, but at the end of the day what’s wrong with that? Who is it harming? Doesn’t really qualify as inorganic to have the fans stream the music, as opposed to having labels and companies pay for playlisting and radioplay? Having casual listeners is overrated, most artists would kill to have a fandom as dedicated as BTS army.
    And despite the streaming we know that BTS army are a massive fandom, we’ve seen them sell out Wembley stadium and know they’re big. “Organic” (whatever that means) is overrated.

      @arnabchatterjee8611 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Lialiouk I disagree with you point in many ways. One, bts fans wouldn't have to stream if they received more radioplay which western artists like Billie and the weekend don't have to do. Because they are western artists. So bts already has a handicap from the beginning. To make up for the lack of industry connections and radioplay, fans stream. And bts easily have the most dedicated and the biggest fanbase. Proof of that is that Billie Eilish had 1.2 million sales on one of her albums while bts had twice the amount. What is organic and inorganic is indeed overrated because until everyone has a fair ground, the charts will never be fair. Until bts has as much radioplay as western artists, fans will stream. Which makes it fair. As for the last part, bts is just as talented as Billie Eilish (who sings but her brother makes the songs) bts write their own songs, produce, sing, dance and rap. I'm not saying Billie isn't talented and Eminiem is brilliant too but to say bts isn't as talented is false.

    • @ohibo7676
      @ohibo7676 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Lialiouk are you really gonna pretend like a group with already a lot of handicaps is that famous and isn’t talented? A lot of people refuse to listen to bts and kpop in general because they don’t understand the lyrics when you can simply search them. And the radios won’t play those songs too. To get popular in this conditions you need talent. All of the artists that you mentioned are talented please.

    I assume Rihanna wants to make a new album but her label won’t let her, I assume Katy Perry and Katy Hudson (the name Katy used for her debut gospel album in 2001. It only sold 200 copies) are not the same person, that Olivia Rodgrio never wanted to work with Disney, that Lorde will come back with straight up swag, that there are albums celebrities (like Britney Spears with Original Doll) sometimes records songs that the label hates so the celebrity purposely leaks them to the public, that Maroon 5 quite literally came out of nowhere, that saying “I only listen to real music!!” When having Gen Z listen to The Beatles and Elvis is actually a scheme because music has not changed, and that most celebrities were not good students in school.

    • @liloandstitcbedtogether8954
      @liloandstitcbedtogether8954 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also I assume that there are MANY songs One Direction wanted as singles (Hey Angel, They Don’t Know About Us, etc.) that Syco said no to for various reasons and now that the label doesn’t exist somebody in Modest is being sleazy enough to put official audio on the One Direction TH-cam channel in only about 10 months ago because they think it’ll bring more attention to the band when really they want their royalties and the boys are unaware. Finally I assume they never wanted to play some songs like Moments or Back For You live because they were too personal.
