Good video, thanks. As an ex chef, I will compliment you on touching on all the bases, especially the nutrition part. I would add just one tip. You are right that cooking times differ for different vegetables and one way to judge when they are done is, yes the tenderness with a little crunch, but also when the color of the vegetable is at it's brightest: bright green, bright orange, etc. (except the mushrooms, they don't really change except getting a little darker). Bon appetite'.

My question is after steaming you now cut the veggies to your desired size or cut before steaming

By the time you have cooked the last vegetable, the first ones must be cold . I put everything in together and steam until tender and they are all hot at the same time, usually 6 minutes.

I've been steaming my food for about 60 years. I steam fish and meat (only thin cuts of meat) as well, and line up all the food for the meal according to the length of time each takes to cook, then, after boiling the kettle (much faster) for the pot on the stove I add the foods in order, the one requiring the longest steaming first. I let that steam for a while then put the next in. By steaming regularly you learn how long stuff takes for your taste and can organise the timing appropriately. To serve I cover in grated cheese or slather loads of butter over it. I also use herbs and spices in with the stuff steaming and use the steaming water afterwards to make gravy. As an engineer living on my own I don't have time to mess about with lots of pots and fancy recipes and believe in optimisation! This gives me a good healthy cooked meal with little effort every night. If you're going to steam meat you should probably use a meat thermometer, but heck! I don't have time to fuss and I don't have a meat thermometer and I'm still here! Tonight: new potatoes on the bottom of the steamer, after 30 mins put in the sprouting broccolli and salmon fillet, salt, lemon and dill. Eight minutes later it's done, put it on a pre-heated (under the hot tap) plate, butter on the potatoes and broccolli, wash the pan and steamer, that way I don't burn my mouth on the hot food. When entertaining just double up the quantities, same cooking time, same amount of washing up. Couldn't be simpler or quicker.

Thank you for making this video. The other videos I watched on stemming vegetable they put all kinds of vegetables in the pot at one time. This video made more sense. I'm more of a fruitarian than a vegetarian but one of my doctors told me to try steaming some vegetables and adding them to my diet. Due to jaw issues a lot of vegetables are hard me to chew. This video will help me out a lot. I can't wait to steam some carrots and other vegetables. Thank you!

and then there are others (rarely) like you, explaining a simple matter that most of the people already know and understand...yet capable of grabbing all attention of everybody eventhough; they already know how.
Beautifully done and well explained video. Don't mind, even for a second, about bad comments..there will be always few that never will able to keep up no matter what.

I have often thought if beans take 5 mins and mushrooms take 3 , can you not just add the mushrooms in after 2min of the bens cooking? and the same with the carrots? add or deduct the time? when you are trying to get everything on the table hot for a family this surely could help? or am i missing something important.
i do this when boiling but haven't tried it with steaming.
